20100278387Passive Electro-Optical Tracker - A passive electro-optical tracker uses a two-band IR intensity ratio to discriminate high-speed projectiles and obtain a speed estimate from their temperature, as well as determining the trajectory back to the source of fire. In an omnidirectional system a hemispheric imager with an MWIR spectrum splitter forms two CCD images of the environment. Three methods are given to determine the azimuth and range of a projectile, one for clear atmospheric conditions and two for nonhomogeneous atmospheric conditions. The first approach uses the relative intensity of the image of the projectile on the pixels of a CCD camera to determine the azimuthal angle of trajectory with respect to the ground, and its range. The second calculates this angle using a different algorithm. The third uses a least squares optimization over multiple frames based on a triangle representation of the smeared image to yield a real-time trajectory estimate.11-04-2010

20110261193PASSIVE ELECTRO-OPTICAL TRACKER - A passive electro-optical tracker uses a two-band IR intensity ratio to discriminate high-speed projectiles and obtain a time-varying speed estimate from their time-varying temperature, as well as determining the trajectory back to the source of fire. In an omnidirectional system a hemispheric imager with an MWIR spectrum splitter forms two CCD images of the environment. Various methods are given to determine the azimuth and range of a projectile, both for clear atmospheric conditions and for nonhomogeneous atmospheric conditions. One approach uses the relative intensity of the image of the projectile on the pixels of a CCD camera to determine the azimuthal angle of trajectory with respect to the ground, and its range. A second uses a least squares optimization over multiple frames based on a triangle representation of the smeared image to yield a real-time trajectory estimate.10-27-2011

20100082509Self-Adapting Iterative Solver - A self-adapting iterative solver is provided that employs a self-adapting process for extracting singularities for solving linear systems of equations. The self-adapting iterative solver dynamically determines how to adapt its performance in the presence of one or more singularities encountered in a linear system of equations. In certain embodiments, the self-adapting iterative solver can identify possible singularities, and then analyzes its performance for adapting to a treatment of the possible singularities that provides a desired performance (i.e., for achieving convergence to a solution). Thus, rather than being pre-configured for providing a certain treatment of (e.g., eliminating) certain pre-identified singularities, in certain embodiments, the iterative solver adapts its treatment of singularities based on its computing performance.04-01-2010

20090053125Stabilizing 4H Polytype During Sublimation Growth Of SiC Single Crystals - A SiC single crystal is grown by physical vapor transport (PVT) in a graphite growth chamber, the interior of which is charged with a SiC source material and a SiC single crystal seed in spaced relation. During PVT growth of the SiC single crystal, the growth chamber further includes Ce. The SiC single crystal grows on the SiC single crystal seed in response to heating the interior of the growth chamber to a growth temperature and in the presence of a temperature gradient in the growth chamber whereupon the temperature of the SiC single crystal seed is lower than the temperature of the SiC source material. The Ce can include either Ce silicide or Ce carbide.02-26-2009
20090169459Intra-Cavity Gettering of Nitrogen in Sic Crystal Growth - In method of crystal growth, an interior of a crystal growth chamber (07-02-2009
20100018455System for Forming SiC Crystals Having Spatially Uniform Doping Impurities - A physical vapor transport system includes a growth chamber charged with source material and a seed crystal in spaced relation, and at least one capsule having at least one capillary extending between an interior thereof and an exterior thereof, wherein the interior of the capsule is charged with a dopant. Each capsule is installed in the growth chamber. Through a growth reaction carried out in the growth chamber following installation of each capsule therein, a crystal is formed on the seed crystal using the source material, wherein the formed crystal is doped with the dopant.01-28-2010
20100061914GUIDED DIAMETER SiC SUBLIMATION GROWTH WITH MULTI-LAYER GROWTH GUIDE - In the growth of a SiC boule, a growth guide is provided inside of a growth crucible that is charged with SiC source material at a bottom of the crucible and a SiC seed crystal at a top of the crucible. The growth guide has an inner layer that defines at least part of an opening in the growth guide and an outer layer that supports the inner layer in the crucible. The opening faces the source material with the seed crystal positioned at an end of the opening opposite the source material. The inner layer is formed from a first material having a higher thermal conductivity than the second, different material forming the outer layer. The source material is sublimation grown on the seed crystal in the growth crucible via the opening in the growth guide to thereby form the SiC boule on the seed crystal.03-11-2010
20100139552Axial Gradient Transport Growth Process and Apparatus Utilizing Resistive Heating - A crucible has a first resistance heater is disposed in spaced relation above the top of the crucible and a second resistance heater with a first resistive section disposed in spaced relation beneath the bottom of the crucible and with a second resistive section disposed in spaced relation around the outside of the side of the crucible. The crucible is charged with a seed crystal at the top of an interior of the crucible and a source material in the interior of the crucible in spaced relation between the seed crystal and the bottom of the crucible. Electrical power of a sufficient extent is applied to the first and second resistance heaters to create in the interior of the crucible a temperature gradient of sufficient temperature to cause the source material to sublimate and condense on the seed crystal thereby forming a growing crystal.06-10-2010
20110303884SiC Crystals Having Spatially Uniform Doping Impurities - A sublimation-grown silicon carbide (SiC) single crystal boule includes a deep level dopant introduced into the SiC single crystal boule during sublimation-growth thereof such that in a continuous section of the boule that is not less than 50% of a continuous length of said boule, the deep level dopant concentration at the boule center varies by not more than 25% from the average concentration of the deep level dopant in the continuous section of the boule.12-15-2011
