20100179245Asphalt prime coat - An environmentally friendly composition and related methods of use and production of an asphalt prime coat, suitable for application to a base road structure, are described herein. The composition includes an asphaltine, and an emulsion of a natural hydrocarbon resin mixed with a penetrating component, which can include a very limited quantity an organic solvent, or can omit organic solvents. If organic solvents are omitted, a hydrophobic wax can be added for moisture retention and water impermeability. Dispersion agents can be used to facilitate penetration into the base road. Rheology modifying agents and/or alcohols can be used to add flexibility, decrease curing time, and improve thickness and viscosity. The prime coat contains a lower quantity of volatile organic compounds than conventional prime coats, reducing environmental impact. The drying time of the composition is less than alternative compositions. The improved dry time coupled with lower environmental liability can provide significant cost savings.07-15-2010

20090168051PARTICLE COUNTING AND DNA UPTAKE SYSTEM AND METHOD FOR DETECTION, ASSESSMENT AND FURTHER ANALYSIS OF THREATS DUE TO NEBULIZED BIOLOGICAL AGENTS - The Nebulized Airborne Biohazard Stage Alert (NABSA) is a method utilizing an optical particle counter in conjunction with a fluorometer as triggers to detect and assess potential biohazard threats infused into surrounding air. In the first stage an optical particle counter is constantly passing sampled air in front of an energy source, in turn scattering light. This scattered light is evaluated to establish if the particles are above one micrometer in concentrations, and thus potentially an aerosolized threat. Such detection triggers the secondary stage in which the sample particles are tested for viability via processing through a dye with fluorescent properties affected when bonded with an entity universally found in all biological substances and a UV light source. The detection of concentrations of oversized, viable particles triggers the third stage to compare a sample of the particles to known biowarfare agents to delineate the specific agent species.07-02-2009

20110025499SIGNAL PROCESSING SYSTEM AND METHODS FOR RELIABLY DETECTING AUDIBLE ALARMS - A signal processing system and associated methods are disclosed for reliably detecting audible alert signals, such as Temporal-3 (or Code-3) and Temporal-4 (or Code-4) alert signals generated by commercially available smoke, fire, and carbon monoxide detectors. The system and methods are capable of detecting audible alert signals of different intensities in the presence of dynamic background environment (e.g., television programming, music, noise, and the like). The system and methods are capable of detecting audible alert signals generated by far away smoke, fire, and carbon monoxide detectors. The signal processing system and methods may, in some embodiments, be incorporated into a bedside or other unit that generates a supplemental alert signal capable of alerting individuals who might not otherwise respond to the alarm condition, such as individuals who are asleep, children, hearing impaired, or intoxicated.02-03-2011
20120043467Single plane compton camera - A single plane Compton telescope uses a coplanar array of detectors to determine the direction of a radiation source. Detector materials and dimensions may have comparable Compton scattering and photoelectric absorption probabilities, so scattered photons have a high probability of escape from the detector in which the initial interaction occurs, while being absorbed in adjacent detectors. Energy information from coincident interactions between two detectors defines a bearing plane that contains the radiation source; by comparing these interactions in two non-parallel directions, the source is localized to a line representing the intersection of two bearing planes. Energies may be summed to determine the initial photon energy. The array may be of a single detector type or an arrangement of different detector types. The array may be a stationary, planar configuration of at least three detectors, or a linear array of at least two detectors that is rotatable within a selected plane.02-23-2012

20110118980Lateral Avoidance Maneuver Solver - A system on-board an unmanned aerial vehicle for controlling a lateral maneuver to avoid a loss of separation between the unmanned aerial vehicle and an intruder into its airspace. The system receives as inputs the desired miss distance, desired bank angle, state vectors for the unmanned aerial vehicle, wind, and an intruder, and a target vector; and outputs a lateral route change which will achieve the desired miss distance and return the unmanned aerial vehicle back to path. In one embodiment, the system comprises a computer programmed with software that runs automatically and guides the unmanned aerial vehicle to perform a lateral maneuver that avoids loss of separation. In another embodiment, the software runs automatically and advises a pilot on the ground (who is flying the drone by remote control) that a maneuver is about to happen, which maneuver the pilot can either accept or reject.05-19-2011
