20090314176APPARATUS AND METHOD FOR BLASTING - Disclosed herein are significant improvements in security and safety of blasting apparatuses intended for use in mining operations. These include the development of an apparatus and method for blasting that involves activation or deactivation of the blasting apparatus in accordance with pre-determined parameters. For example, these parameters may include one or more of: a location of the blast site, a time for the blasting event, a number of previous blasts, a number of previous blasts within a given time period, and identification of detonator identification codes. The activation or deactivation may involve cross-communication between components of the blasting apparatus and/or associated detonators. Such cross-communication may involve electronic or wireless communication means, including for example the use of cell phone technology, or the internet. In this way, preferred apparatuses and methods disclosed herein permit rapid analysis and verification of a geographical location and time for a blasting event, as well as control and logging of the blasting event, all from a remote location.12-24-2009

20090199390Article for preventing items from falling behind furniture - The device prevents the loss of articles otherwise susceptible to falling behind furniture, appliances, fixtures or equipment or other large objects placed next to a wall which are not easy to move or reach under such as, but not exclusively, couches, wardrobes, desks, washers, dryers, refrigerators, filing cabinets and dressers. The compressible and flexible device is fitted from above into the crevice between the furniture and the wall. It is held in place by friction created by the pressure caused by the deformation of the device between the furniture and wall. The device, when flexed or compressed, creates a u-shaped channel which catches valuables such as jewelry, makeup, currency, papers, office supplies or other items which are left on top of furniture and which without such invention, may otherwise fall behind the furniture where it would be difficult or impossible to retrieve. Because it uses pressure and friction to maintain its placement, the article does not require fastening by means to the wall or furniture, so it does not damage the furniture or wall. Objects which are caught in the device can be removed easily by the user with the need to remove the article from the crevice.08-13-2009

20100246748NUCLEAR FUEL ASSEMBLY WITH PIVOT DIMPLED GRIDS - A soft pivot dimple nuclear fuel assembly grid that utilizes a “dog bone” shaped window cutout and radius coining of edges perpendicular to coolant flow, to reduce the susceptibility of fuel rod leaking during the reactor operation. Radius coining allows the fuel rod to smoothly transition over the radiused edge to the flat rod contact section of the dimple. The symmetric “dog bone” shape enables the dimple to pivot during rod loading resulting in improved alignment between the dimple and the fuel rod, thereby minimizing scratching. The “dog bone” shape also allows for a large contact area dimple to be softer than a typical dimple which reduces contact stresses and fretting wear during reactor operations.09-30-2010
