20110275062Systems And Methods For Integrating A Single DNA Molecule Into A Molecular Electronic Device - The disclosed subject matter provides a techniques for precisely and/or functionally cutting carbon nanotubes, e.g., single walled carbon nanotubes (“SWNTs”) and integrating a single nucleic acid molecule (e.g., a DNA molecule) into a gap formed into the carbon nanotubes. In one aspect, a method of fabricating a molecular electronic device includes disposing a SWNT on a base layer, forming a gap in the SWNT using a lithographic process, and disposing a single DNA strand across the gap so that each end of the nucleic acid contacts a gap termini. The disclosed subject matter also provides techniques for measuring the electrical properties (charge transport) of a DNA molecule which is integrated into an SWNT. Furthermore, a molecular electronic device including an SWNT with an integrated nucleic acid molecule is disclosed.11-10-2011

Devices, methods of making, and methods of using are discussed.02-12-2009
20110185458FORCE, PRESSURE, OR STIFFNESS MEASUREMENT OR CALIBRATION USING GRAPHENE OR OTHER SHEET MEMBRANE - Force, pressure, or stiffness measurement or calibration can be provided, such as by using a graphene or other sheet membrane, which can provide a specified number of monolayers suspended over a substantially circular well. In an example, the apparatus can include a substrate, including a substantially circular well. A deformable sheet membrane can be suspended over the well. The membrane can be configured to include a specified integer number of one or more monolayers. A storage medium can comprise accompanying information about the suspended membrane or the substrate that, with a deflection displacement response of the suspended membrane to an applied force or pressure, provides a measurement of the applied force or pressure.07-28-2011
20110268884FORMATION OF NANOSCALE CARBON NANOTUBE ELECTRODES USING A SELF-ALIGNED NANOGAP MASK - A first single-wall carbon nanotube can be electrically coupled to a first electrode, and a second single-wall carbon nanotube electrically coupled to a second electrode. In an example, the first and second single-wall carbon nanotubes are laterally separated by a nanoscale gap, such as sized and shaped for insertion of a single molecule.11-03-2011

20080317960Dispersant for Reducing Viscosity of Solids - The invention provides a dispersant for an aqueous dispersion of negatively charged or chargeable solid particulates which comprises a compound having an anchoring moiety linked to a polymeric hydrophilic moiety, the anchoring moiety containing at least one basic group and having an overall basicity and the polymeric moiety having a lower affinity for the particulate surface than the anchoring moiety. The invention also provides a coating composition containing the dispersant, an inkjet recording element containing the dispersant and methods of coating or reducing viscosity using the dispersant.12-25-2008
20100068387INK FOR PRINTING ON LOW ENERGY SUBSTRATES - The invention provides an aqueous inkjet ink composition comprises a polymeric compound comprising discrete particles responsive to an external stimulus, and a functional material, wherein the functional material may be incorporated as part of the polymeric particles, the particles causing the composition to have a first rheological state and a different second rheological state in response to a stimulated change in conditions, the first rheological state being associated with a first lower viscosity of the composition, wherein the particles have a first lower volume, enabling the composition to pass through an inkjet printhead orifice and the second rheological state being associated with a second higher viscosity of the composition, wherein the particles have a second higher volume, enabling immobilisation of droplets of the composition on a substrate. The inkjet composition is particularly useful in a continuous inkjet printing system for printing onto a wide range of surfaces including impermeable surfaces.03-18-2010
20100184910THERMALLY-RESPONSIVE DISPERSANTS FOR MEDIA FORMULATIONS - A thermally-responsive dispersant for an aqueous dispersion of positively- or negatively-charged or chargeable solid or liquid particulate, comprises a compound having an anchoring moiety linked to a thermally-responsive polymeric stabilizing moiety, other than a polyalkylene oxide, the polymeric moiety having a lower affinity for the surface than the anchoring group below the thermal transition temperature, the particulates being positively-charged or chargeable when the anchoring moiety contains an acid and/or hydroxy group and has a net acidity or neutrality and the particulates being negatively-charged or chargeable when the anchoring moiety has a basic group and has a net basicity, wherein the dispersion exhibits a change in sign from negative to positive and an increase in magnitude of a rheological property (viscosity at low shear and/or complex modulus at low amplitude oscillatory shear), on increasing the temperature from below to above the thermal transition temperature.07-22-2010

20090046824NUCLEAR REACTOR ROBUST GRAY CONTROL ROD - A control rod having a lower tip absorber material which exhibits substantially lower irradiation induced swelling than a second absorber material which extends above the lower tip absorber material. The lower tip absorber material having a substantially lower reactivity worth than the second absorber material, extends from a lower end plug of the control rod to an elevation just above a dashpot in a thimble guide tube in a nuclear fuel assembly when the control rod is fully inserted within the thimble guide tube.02-19-2009
20110170652NEUTRON ABSORBER CONSISTING OF REFRACTORY METAL INFUSED WITH DISCRETE NEUTRON ABSORBER - The present invention provides a gray rod control assembly (GRCA) containing an improved neutron absorber comprised of a porous matrix of refractory metal infused with a neutron absorbing metal or metal alloy for a nuclear reactor. The reactor has a plurality of fuel assemblies, each including numerous elongated fuel rods supported in an organized array by substantially transverse support grids, and a plurality of guide thimbles disposed through the support grids and along the fuel rods. The GRCA includes a spider assembly structured to provide controlled insertion of gray rod assemblies within the thimbles of the fuel assembly, thereby controlling the rate of power produced by the reactor. Each gray rod assembly includes an elongated tubular member, a first end plug, a second end plug and the improved neutron-absorber disposed within the tubular member. Delta-power of the reactor is improved by the relatively small percentage of neutron absorbing metal infused in the porous matrix of the refractory metal of the neutron absorber and by distributing the neutron absorber in segments among a plurality of rods of the GRCA.07-14-2011
