Autonomic PCI Express Hardware Detection and Failover Mechanism - A system with an autonomic PCI Express hardware detection and failover mechanism includes a plurality of combination root complex capable and endpoint capable devices. A combination root complex capable and endpoint capable device may be selectively configured to operate in either a root complex mode or an endpoint mode. One of the devices assumes the root complex mode and the remaining devices each assume the endpoint mode. Each of the endpoint mode devices is adapted to detect a failure of the root complex mode device. In response to detection of the failure of the root complex mode device, one of the endpoint mode devices assumes root complex mode. An endpoint device may include a timer with a timeout value. Whenever, an endpoint device receives a communication from the root complex device, the endpoint device restarts its timer. If the timer times out with the endpoint device receiving a communication from the root complex device, the endpoint device issues a read request to the root complex device. If the root complex device does not respond to the read request, the endpoint device assumes root complex mode. Different endpoint devices may be assigned different timeout values. Accordingly, the endpoint device that is assigned the shortest time out value will assume root complex mode upon detection of a root complex device failure. | 03-05-2009

Implementing Bus Interface Calibration for Enhanced Bus Interface Initialization Time - A method and apparatus are provided for implementing bus interface calibration to improve bus interface initialization time in a system. Bus interface calibration is performed and average calibration values are saved. At bus interface initialization time, checking for saved calibration values is performed. The saved calibration values are used and tested. When the saved calibration values pass the test, then the saved calibration values are used for system operation without performing any training steps. | 12-31-2009

DETECTION AND CORRECTION OF FUSE RE-GROWTH IN A MICROPROCESSOR - A microprocessor includes control hardware that receives and stores control values and provides the control values to circuits of the microprocessor for controlling operation of the microprocessor. The microprocessor also includes a first plurality of fuses selectively blown collectively with a predetermined value, and a second plurality of fuses selectively blown collectively with an error correction value computed from the predetermined value collectively blown into the first plurality of fuses. In response to being reset, the microprocessor reads the first and second plurality of fuses, detects an error in the value read from the first plurality of fuses using the value read from the second plurality of fuses, corrects the value read from the first plurality of fuses back to the predetermined value using the value read from the second plurality of fuses, and uses the corrected predetermined value to write the control values into the control hardware. | 09-09-2010
MICROPROCESSOR WITH IMPROVED THERMAL MONITORING AND PROTECTION MECHANISM - A microprocessor including a temperature sensor that monitors a temperature of core logic of the microprocessor during operation thereof, and operating point information from which may be determined N operating points at which the microprocessor core may reliably operate at a first temperature. Each of the N operating points has a different combination of operating frequency and voltage. The N operating points comprise a highest operating point, a lowest operating point, and a plurality of operating points intermediate the highest and lowest operating points. The microprocessor also includes a control circuit that transitions operation of the core logic among the N operating points to attempt to keep the operating temperature of the core logic provided by the temperature sensor within a temperature range whose upper bound is the first temperature. | 12-23-2010

Method and System for Correlating Streams within a Packet Network - A method and system for correlating data streams within a packet network. The method relies on independently selecting the same packets as reference packets at different places and times within the network. Once selected, the data contained in a given reference packet is utilized to generate a unique tag for that reference packet. This tag can later be compared with other tags generated at other places and times within the network to track the reference packet and its containing stream as it travels over the network. | 10-23-2008
