20080317337System and method for decomposing a digital image - A system and method for decomposing a digital image is provided. A digital image is represented as a word-graph, which includes words and visualized features, and zone hypotheses that group one or more of the words. Causal dependencies of the zone hypotheses are expressed through a learned generative zone model to which costs and constraints are assigned. An optimal set of the zone hypotheses are inferred, which are non-overlapping, through a heuristic search of the costs and constraints.12-25-2008

20110116715Computer-Implemented System And Method For Recognizing Patterns In A Digital Image Through Document Image Decomposition - A computer-implemented system and method for retrieving a digital image through document image decomposition is provided. A stored digital image is retrieved. Generic visual features are extracted. The features are grouped into a primitive layer including word-graphs that each include words and features. The words are grouped into a layout layer including zone hypotheses that each include one or more of the words. Causal dependencies between the word-graphs and the zone hypotheses are expressed through zone models that include a joint probability defining a pair of probabilistic models generated through a learned binary edge classifier. Each pair of probabilistic models is expressed as an optimal set selection problem including a set of cost functions and constraints. The optimal set selection problem is evaluated through a heuristic search of the cost functions and constraints and a non-overlapping optimal set of the zone hypotheses is provided that characterize the stored digital image.05-19-2011

20080300706System and method for real-time system control using precomputed plans - Features described herein relate to optimizing a job plan procedure for selecting a plan for executing a manufacturing job. A planner can receive a model of a system that is to perform a job, and may select a precomputed plan that is sufficient to perform the job. The precomputed plan is identified during a first portion of a planning period, and the remainder of the planning period may be utilized to search for and identify a better plan for executing the job. If a better plan cannot be identified by the end of the planning period, then the selected precomputed plan can be executed.12-04-2008
20120026516COLOR CHARACTERIZATION MODEL COMPUTATION USING WEIGHTED LEAST SQUARES MINIMIZATION - Methods and systems are presented for characterizing a color rendering system or a color marking material design process, in which forward color transform parameters are generated for mapping color from a first color space associated with an internal color representation of the color rendering system or marking material design process into a second color space using a least squares minimization of an error metric weighted according to a Taylor series expansion of the error metric.02-02-2012

20100241285TECHNIQUE FOR AGGREGATING LOADS WITH TIME-VARYING OPERATING CYCLES - Embodiments of a system, a method, and a computer-program product (e.g., software) for aggregating an energy service from a group of loads with time-varying operating cycles are described. This aggregation may be performed by an aggregator, which provides the energy service to a power-system operator. In particular, for a desired demand response, a demand-response mechanism may modify a demand response of a given load by mapping an initial operating cycle of the load before a demand-response event to a final operating cycle. In addition, the demand-response mechanism may transition the given load to a new operating cycle associated with the demand-response event using a temporal set-point trajectory. This aggregation technique may ensure that a distribution of phases of the group of loads is, on average, uncorrelated with each other, either by preserving or modifying the distribution of phases prior to the demand-response event.09-23-2010
20100241549TECHNIQUE FOR AGGREGATING AN ENERGY SERVICE - Embodiments of a system, a method, and a computer-program product (e.g., software) for aggregating an energy service from a number of participants for use by a power-system operator is described. This aggregation may be performed by an aggregator, which is between the participants and the power-system operator. In particular, the aggregator may use an embedded economic mechanism to calculate a price that matches supply (or cutback) of power and/or load from the participants with a desired supply of the power-system operator. Because the aggregator typically does not know the participants' exact propensity to respond as a function of price (supply function), the aggregator calculates the purchase price using one or more iterations in which an initial probe price is provided to the participants, and the participants respond with supply-function approximations that are valid in proximity to the current probe price.09-23-2010
