20100046504 | AUDIO COMMUNICATIONS SYSTEM USING NETWORKING PROTOCOLS - Methods for providing improvement in Voice-over-IP communication systems, and hardware for implementing the methods, are disclosed. A first aspect provides a method of improving on the efficiency of RTP used to transport VoIP voice calls by reducing the overhead of second and subsequent calls on a link to almost zero using trunking. A second aspect uses bandwidth awareness to compress RTP payload data captured from the network. This involves capturing G.711 encoded RTP data directly from the network ( as opposed to at source ) and transcoding that data in such a way as to take account of the available bandwidth on an outbound link. A third aspect uses dynamic and transparent packet fragmentation and reassembly based on RTP interval to reduce VoIP latency and jitter. A fourth aspect uses dynamic re-writing of SIP messages to provides automatic fail-over and load balancing of SIP servers. This involves capturing SIP call set-up messages and re-writing and duplicating them to direct them to multiple servers. The response is monitored to determine which server responds most quickly and allowing only that reply back to the source device. A fifth aspect provides dynamic sizing of trunk payload packets. Given that the above scheme has been set up on a link, it is trivial for the receiving trunk device to determine if the received packets are too big or small, and to signal the transmitter to adjust its payload size accordingly. | 02-25-2010 |

20110069302 | Wide Area Seismic Detection - A method for monitoring for seismic events by interrogating an optic fibre which forms part of an existing communications infrastructure to provide distributed acoustic sensing (DAS). The signals provided by the distributed sensing provide measurements at each of a plurality of discrete portions along the fibre, which may be many tens of kilometres in length. Warning or measurement and consequently prediction of seismic activity can be provided by collecting data over a wide area, without the need to deploy a correspondingly large fibre network. | 03-24-2011 |
20110139538 | Tracking Objects in Conduits - Methods and apparatus for tracking objects in conduits, especially for tracking the movement of a pig in a pipeline, are disclosed. Distributed acoustic sensing is used to obtain signal returns from a plurality of discrete longitudinal sensing portions of a fibre optic cable which is laid along the length of the conduit. The method involves detecting an acoustic signature corresponding to the object moving in the conduit. The acoustic signature may comprise a series of pressure pulses caused by the object traversing joints etc. in the conduit. Preferably the method involves detecting pressure waves caused by the object as it moves through the conduit. Detecting the characteristic pressure wave signal provides discrimination of the object from other acoustic disturbances. In pipeline applications a pig can be tracked in real time, if the pig stops moving an alert can be generated and the location of the pig will be known. | 06-16-2011 |
20110149688 | Conduit Monitoring - A method for monitoring a fluid carrying conduit by introducing an acoustic pulse into the conduit, and interrogating an optic fibre positioned along the path of said conduit to provide distributed acoustic sensing. By measuring the response at each of a plurality of locations, a conduit condition profile can be derived. A condition profile can be obtained quickly and easily with minimum disruption to the pipeline infrastructure and contained flow. Existing optic fibres running along the path of a pipe can be employed for sensing purposes, allowing relatively long spans of pipeline to be monitored with only limited access to the pipe. | 06-23-2011 |
20120137781 | Fibre Optic Acoustic Sensing - This invention relates to the fibre optic distributed acoustic sensing to detect P and S waves in a solid medium. Distributed acoustic sensing can be achieved using an unmodified fibre optic by launching optical pulses into the fibre and detecting radiation which is Rayleigh backscattered there from. By analysing the returns in analysis bins, acoustic disturbances can be detected in a plurality of discrete longitudinal sections of the fibre. The present invention extends such fibre distributed acoustic sensing to detection of S and P waves. | 06-07-2012 |

An assembly includes a stencil layer sandwiched between a substrate and a transparent coating. The stencil includes a release surface. The coating tends to secure the stencil layer to the substrate, e.g., for storage and/or transport, and may protect the stencil layer from marking materials that might otherwise penetrate the stencil layer. A design and background layers are then printed onto the coating. A force is then applied to remove the background layer, design layer, and coating that are disposed on the stencil layer, leaving the remainder of the background layer, design layer, and coating adhered to the substrate in substantially exact registration within portions of the substrate that are devoid of the stencil layer. The design layer is right-reading visible through the substrates. | 05-06-2010 |
20120145017 | PRINTING LAYERS OF CERAMIC INK IN SUBSTANTIALLY EXACT REGISTRATION DIFFERENTIAL INK MEDIUM THERMAL EXPULSION - A method of partially imaging a substrate, for example glass, with a print pattern comprising layers of ceramic ink in substantially exact registration. The method relies on a mask ink layer defining the print pattern and differential thermal expulsion of ceramic ink medium during a heat fusing process between the areas outside the print pattern and within the print pattern. This results in pigment and glass frit forming a durable image material adhered to the substrate within the print pattern and non durable material outside the print pattern, enabling its removal outside the print pattern to leave the desired layers of ceramic ink within the print pattern in substantially exact registration. | 06-14-2012 |

20090297344 | Rotors and manufacturing methods for rotors - A rotor for driving, or being driven by, a fluid has rotor blades that follow a screw thread shape, all portions of all blades having the same screw pitch. This enables the rotor, or a molding pattern for use in making a mold, to be withdrawn from a mold part by a screw motion without damage to the mold part. This helps to make it economically viable to manufacture the rotor by a molding or casting process in which the mold parts are not destroyed to release the rotor, such as injection molding, for example with reinforced plastics. Additionally, in the case of manufacturing methods in which the mold is destroyed to release the rotor, the process of making or assembling the mold may be improved. In some molding processes, the ability to remove the rotor or the pattern by screw motion improves the economic viability of the process by reducing the number of mold parts required. | 12-03-2009 |
