20090113749 | High Efficiency Liquid Solid Separator - A liquid solid separator utilizing inductive heating. An electrically conductive scroll conveyor is contained within a non-magnetic and non-conductive housing under vacuum. A moveable alternating electric coil is disposed around the housing. The scroll pulls the solids through the housing. Operation of the coil heats the scroll which heats the solids. The vacuum lowers the boiling point of the liquids, and they are vaporized at a relatively low temperature. The vapors are condensed and collected. Because of the low temperatures, the separated liquids are less likely to deteriorate during separation, facilitating recycling. Thermocouples and a computer track the internal temperature of the separator and coordinate the position of the coil to maintain the desired temperature. The housing is provided with a heat insulating outer layer and the interior of the scroll is pressurized with nitrogen. The separator surfaces exposed to the atmosphere are maintained at or below 150° F. | 05-07-2009 |
20120057979 | OFFSHORE WIND POWER SYSTEM - A wind power system comprising a vertical tower defining a vertical travel path; a carriage mounted to the tower and configured to move along the travel path; and wind turbine mounted to the carriage and having rotatable blades to convert wind energy into electrical energy. The system may include one or more gear racks secured to the outside diameter of the tower upon which the carriage moves. The system may include a locking mechanism configured to lock the carriage in a working position at a top of the travel path, a maintenance position at a bottom of the travel path, and/or a storm position at a midpoint of the travel path. The turbine may be configured to hold the blades in a vertical alignment parallel to the tower, when the carriage is in the storm position. | 03-08-2012 |
20130078109 | OFFSHORE WIND TURBINE STRUCTURES AND METHODS THEREFOR - Structures and methods for elevating and retracting offshore wind turbine assemblies. Structures and methods are presented for elevating and retracting offshore wind turbine assemblies mounted on a tower in order to facilitate both service of the assemblies at any time, as well as preservation of the assemblies through storms or other high-wind weather events. Among the structures presented are folding wind turbine blades that may be folded into compact clusters and secured to braces in order to minimize damage during storms or other high-wind events. | 03-28-2013 |
