20130184509 | Methods of Making Xylene Isomers - Disclosed herein are methods of making xylene isomers. The methods generally include contacting an aromatics-comprising feed with a non-sulfided catalyst under conditions suitable for converting the feed to a product comprising xylene isomers. The catalyst includes a support impregnated with a hydrogenation component. The support includes a macroporous binder and a sieve selected from the group consisting of a medium pore sieve, a large pore sieve, and mixtures thereof. The selection of the sieve will depend upon the size of the molecules in the feed, intermediate, and product that can be expected from the catalytic reactions. When the molecules are expected to be large, a large pore sieve should be used. In contrast, when the molecules are expected to be smaller, either a large pore sieve, a medium pore sieve, or a mixture thereof may be used. The macropores within the support have been found to be especially beneficial because they help to overcome diffusional limitations observed when utilizing highly-active catalysts lacking such macropores. | 07-18-2013 |

The light refracting element can be utilized in and/or with the viewing trocar to refract (i.e., bend) light passing into the trocar through the trocar's window. As a result, the angled endoscope's field of view can be substantially aligned with the field of view of the trocar's window, thus allowing the angled endoscope and viewing trocar to be used together to create ports in a patient, including initial ports of endoscopic surgical procedures. | 09-18-2014 |
20140285644 | IMAGE ROTATION USING SOFTWARE FOR ENDOSCOPIC APPLICATIONS - The disclosure extends to endoscopic devices and systems for image correction of a rotating sensor. The disclosure allows for the distal image sensor to rotate as the user rotates the lumen with respect to a fixed handpiece. The system includes an angle sensor located at the junction of the rotating lumen and the fixed handpiece. Periodic measurements of angle are used in the system's image processing chain in order to effect suitable software image rotations, thereby providing a final displayed image or video stream with the desired orientation. | 09-25-2014 |
20140288365 | SCOPE SENSING IN A LIGHT CONTROLLED ENVIRONMENT - The disclosure extends to methods, systems, and computer program products for detecting whether an illumination source of an endoscope is in use (inside the body of a patient) versus not in use (outside the body of a patient). The disclosure relies on the fact that the working environment is lit solely by the endoscope and its components. Thus, communication between the illumination or light source controller and the imaging device, such as a surgical camera, is required. When the illumination or light source is turned off and the endoscope is outside the body, a sensor will detect ambient light alerting the illumination source controller that it is outside the body, which then keeps the illumination source off or at a low intensity level. Conversely, when the illumination source is turned off and the endoscope is inside the body, the sensor will not detect any light (or will detect only a very low level of light). Based on this logic, if the imaging device, such as a camera, knows that the light is off during a specific period of time the frame(s) from that time period can be analyzed and the level of light gathered in the frame(s) will show the scope location either inside or outside of the body. | 09-25-2014 |
20140288369 | MECHANICAL IMAGE ROTATION FOR RIGIDLY COUPLED IMAGE SENSOR AND ENDOSCOPE - The disclosure extends to endoscopic devices and systems for image rotation for a rigidly coupled image sensor. The disclosure allows for a distal prism to rotate, which changes the angle of view of the user or operator, while the sensor remains fixed at a constant location. This allows the device to be used in the same manner as expected by a user or operator. The user or operator may rotate an outer lumen, thereby changing the angle of view, while the sensor remains in a fixed position and the image viewable on screen remains at a constant horizon. The prism may rotate while the sensor does not rotate, such that the user does not lose orientation. | 09-25-2014 |
20140288373 | SYSTEM AND METHOD FOR REMOVING SPECKLE FROM A SCENE LIT BY A COHERENT LIGHT SOURCE - The disclosure extends to methods, devices, and systems for removing speckle from a coherent light source, such as laser light.
