REMOVABLE VENA CAVA FILTER FOR REDUCED TRAUMA IN COLLAPSED CONFIGURATION - The present invention provides a method of capturing thrombi in a blood vessel, which includes delivering a removable filter in a collapsed state within the blood vessel and deploying the filter to an expanded state within the blood vessel. The filter includes a plurality of primary struts and a plurality of secondary struts emanating from a hub and extending arcuately along a longitudinal axis and linearly radially. Each primary strut has an arcuate segment including first and second curved portions. Each secondary strut includes first and second arcs. The primary struts terminate with an anchoring hook. Each primary strut crosses another primary strut along the longitudinal axis in the collapsed state such that the arcuate segments occupy a first diameter and the anchoring hooks occupy a second diameter, the first diameter being greater than the second diameter for filter retrieval or delivery. In the expanded state, the secondary struts centralize the filter in the blood vessel and the anchoring hooks engage with the blood vessel. | 06-24-2010

SEISMIC WAVE GENERATING APPARATUS AND METHOD - A seismic wave generating device and methods for generating seismic waves having a relatively strong longitudinal energy and a relatively weak transverse energy are disclosed. A device may have a hollow casing and a striking member passing through the hollow casing, the striking member or the hollow casing bearing a spacing member. A method may drive the hollow casing into the earth, then remove earth from within the hollow casing. The method may place a striking member through the hollow casing and may drive the striking member further into the earth to create seismic waves with a relatively strong longitudinal energy and a relatively weak transverse energy. | 01-20-2011

Novel NIDDM Regimen - The present invention relates to the use of a short-acting oral hypoglycemic agent and to a novel regimen in the treatment of type 2 diabetes in which the endogenous secretion of insulin is stimulated in connection with meals by administering in connection with the meals a short-acting oral hypoglycaemic agent. Also, the present invention relates to a method of achieving significantly improvement in the glycaemic control by a combined use of repaglinide and metformin in NIDDM patients poorly controlled on metformin alone. | 01-20-2011

Swellable Dosage Form Comprising Gellan Gum - A novel dosage form. The dosage form is presented in particulate form and before oral ingestion the particulate material is subjected to an aqueous medium, whereby it is converted to a semi-solid form by swelling or gelling of one or more of the components, especially of a gellan gum, of the particulate matter. The invention also relates to a vehicle for oral administration of one or more active substances, the vehicle comprising a gellan gum arranged in a configuration allowing optimal water diffusion so that upon addition of a predetermined amount of an aqueous medium, without the necessity of applying shear forces or other mixing forces, within a time period of 5 minutes or less swells and/or gels and the texture of the swelled vehicle being similar to that of a soft pudding and having a viscosity of at least about 10,000 cps as measured by a Brookfield Viscometer with a #4 LV spindle at 6 rpm and at 20-25° C. In one embodiment of the invention, the particulate matter can be moulded into a desired shape or pressed onto a dispensing unit such as a spoon. | 12-04-2008
CONTROLLED RELEASE PHARMACEUTICAL COMPOSITIONS FOR PROLONGED EFFECT - Layered pharmaceutical composition suitable for oral use in the treatment of diseases where absorption takes place over a large part of the gastrointestinal tract. The composition comprising A) a solid inner layer comprising i) an active substance, and ii) one or more disintegrants/exploding agents, one of more effervescent agents or a mixture thereof. the solid inner layer being sandwiched between two outer layers B1) and B2), each outer layer comprising iii) a substantially water soluble and/or crystalline polymer or a mixture of substantially water soluble and/or crystalline polymers, the polymer being a polyglycol in the form of one of a) a homopolymer having a MW of at least about 100,000 daltons, and b) a copolymer having a MW of at least about 2,000 daltons, or a mixture thereof, and iv) an active substance, which is the same as in said solid inner layer A), and layer A being different from layer B, the layered composition being coated with a coating C) that has at least one opening exposing at least one surface of said outer layer, the coating being substantially insoluble in and impermeable to fluids and comprising a polymer, and the composition having a cylindrical form optionally with one or more tapered ends, wherein the ratio between the surface area of one end surface of the cylinder and the length of the cylinder is in a range of from 0.02 to 45 mm. | 09-23-2010
PHARMACEUTICAL COMPOSITIONS AND METHODS FOR MITIGATING RISK OF ALCOHOL INDUCED DOSE DUMPING OR DRUG ABUSE - Abuse resistant polyglycol-based pharmaceutical compositions are disclosed. The composition contains one or more polyglycols and one or more active substances and it is resistant to crushing, melting and/or extraction. Moreover, such compositions have the same or lower solubility in ethanolic-aqueous medium, i.e. they are not subject to ethanol-induced dose dumping effect. | 11-18-2010
