20090119210METHODS AND APPARATUS FOR OPERATING AN INTERMODAL FACILITY - Methods and apparatus to operate an intermodal facility are disclosed. In a method described herein, a carrier enters into a contractual agreement with a separate intermodal facility owner to have exclusive use of the intermodal facility. Alternatively, a rail-to-truck and/or truck-to-rail intermodal facility owner may provide non-exclusive use to multiple railroads. In one embodiment, the contractual agreement is a contingent lease. For example, if intermodal facility use falls below a threshold, a carrier may terminate the contingent lease. Preferably, the carrier has no minimum use requirements associated with the intermodal facility. Instead, the shipper associated with the carrier is charged by the intermodal facility owner based on the amount of intermodal facility use (e.g., on a per container basis). In one preferred embodiment, a real estate developer owns the intermodal facility and builds a business park near the intermodal facility in order to capture the related business.05-07-2009

20080233862Cover For A Roof Ventilation Vent - A cover for installation onto a roof ventilation vent is provided including a substantially rigid planar base member, at least one side member, and at least one securing member configured with holes adapted to receive fastening elements. The fastening elements are preferably permanently mounted to the building and utilized with corresponding nuts to removably mount the vent cover over the roof ventilation vent. The width, length, and depth of the vent cover are slightly larger than the width, length, and depth of the roof ventilation vent to allow the vent cover to fit over the ventilation vent. The roof ventilation vent cover is designed to removably cover the ventilation vent to prevent a pressure differential, flying debris damage, and water intrusion during hurricanes, to prevent airborne embers from entering during a firestorm, and to protect the vent against accidental paint splatters.09-25-2008

20090090824SUPPORT FOR ASSEMBLY WITH FLAT PANEL VIDEO MONITORS, COUPLER FOR ATTACHMENT OF THE SUPPORT TO AN EXTENSION ARM, AND ASSEMBLY METHODS - A unitary support for a flat panel video monitor includes a yoke that may be attached to a back side of the monitor in two or more different orientations, and handles extending from opposite side ends of the yoke. The handles may extend diagonally from the side ends of the yoke, imparting the support with the general appearance of the letter “W.” The yoke is also configured to be secured directly to a coupler at the end of an extension arm. A coupler attachment element of the yoke and a support attachment element of the coupler may have engagement features that are configured complementarily to each other to prevent undesired movement of the support relative to the coupler and the extension arm. The complementary engagement features may also enable attachment of the coupler to the support in two or more discrete orientations.04-09-2009
20090092441APPARATUS FOR MOVABLY SECURING A DEVICE TO A SUPPORT - An apparatus is provided that may be used to movably connect a device to a support. The apparatus may be a mechanical arm with multiple connections that allows the device to move into various positions and orientations. The connections may include a coupling attached to a connection assembly that movably secures the coupling to an elongated member. Each of the connection assemblies may provide a pivot point which allows rotation upon a sufficient force and provide a mechanism for removably securing a coupling at desired increments. The device may be an instrument or fixture for dental or medical use, such as an operating room light, a dental examination light, a liquid crystal display (LCD), a mirror, delivery head, etc. The support may be attached to a surface such as a ceiling or floor.04-09-2009
20100203465Led-Based Dental Exam Lamp - Disclosed herein is an improved dental operatory lamp having an LED light source that directs light to a reflector that in turn reflects the light to illuminate a treatment area. In one embodiment, the lamp is adapted for efficient transfer of heat from the light source and into the environment. In another embodiment, the lamp is adapted to generate a predetermined pattern of light optimal for the treatment area. In other embodiments, the lamp includes structural features that enable the lamp to maintain optimum light intensity and/or temperature. Also, disclosed herein are unique reflector embodiments that intentionally provide a generally smooth surface, without facets, that reflect light at all visible and infrared wavelengths.08-12-2010

20100052486COMPUTERIZED FLEX WORKSTATION, TRAY, CABINET AND CART - A workstation includes a keyboard integrated therein and a substantially planar work surface. The keyboard may be disposed between an upper and lower portion of the workstation such that a substantially planar upper surface is provided. Additionally, the keyboard may be formed within a portion of the workstation so that an exposed surface of the keyboard is flush with or underlying the substantially planar upper surface. Advantageously, the workstation may provide an interface between a user and the keyboard that may be efficiently cleaned, sterilized and disinfected.03-04-2010

20100258784Method Of Efficient Coupling Of Light From Single-Photon Emitter To Guided Radiation Localized To Sub-Wavelength Dimensions On Conducting Nanowires - A cavity free, broadband approach for engineering photon emitter interactions via sub-wavelength confinement of optical fields near metallic nanostructures. When a single CdSe quantum dot (QD) is optically excited in close proximity to a silver nanowire (NW), emission from the QD couples directly to guided surface plasmons in the NW, causing the wire's ends to light up. Nonclassical photon correlations between the emission from the QD and the ends of the NW demonstrate that the latter stems from the generation of single, quantized plasmons. Results from a large number of devices show that the efficient coupling is accompanied by more than 2.5-fold enhancement of the QD spontaneous emission, in a good agreement with theoretical predictions.10-14-2010

20090049309Method and Apparatus for Verifying Integrity of Computer System Vital Data Components - Vital data components of a computer system are protected by a mechanism for detecting unauthorized alteration, preferably in the form of digital signatures to detect unauthorized alteration. A vital data validation mechanism is provided to verify that vital data modules have not been tampered with. The vital data validation mechanism verifies the current state of each vital data module, preferably by decrypting the digital signature. The validation mechanism also checks an alteration log to verify that no alterations have been made to the corresponding memory locations. The second verification is intended to detect whether a vital data module has been altered temporarily, and then restored to its initial state.02-19-2009

20080271140Verification for Computer Programs that Include External Call References - A program verification mechanism includes an external call reference verification mechanism that verifies external call references in a computer program. The external call reference verification mechanism checks the computer program after the computer program has been loaded by a loader/linker. The loader/linker stores a list of trusted entry points that specifies a trusted entry point for each external call reference, along with a list of allowable caller code for each trusted entry point. The external call reference verification mechanism determines the entry point for each instruction that is an external call reference, determines whether the entry point is listed as the trusted entry point for the external call reference, and whether the external call reference instruction is in the list of allowable caller code for the trusted entry point. If so, the computer program is verified. If not, verification of the computer program fails.10-30-2008
