20110170214SYSTEMS AND METHODS FOR CORRECTING MAGNETIC TAPE DIMENSIONAL INSTABILITY - Magnetic tape devices encounter read and/or write errors when the tape is not being passed across the head with the proper tension and/or skew angle. According to one embodiment, a system which corrects for these problems comprises a head having an array of at least one of readers and writers, a drive mechanism for passing a magnetic recording tape over the head, a skew-inducing mechanism coupled to the head for adjusting a skew angle of a longitudinal axis of the array relative to a direction normal to a direction of tape travel over the head, and a controller in communication with the head. The system also determines a tape dimensional stability state of the tape and adjust the skew angle away from normal to the direction of tape travel and lowers a tension of the tape across the head if the tape dimensional stability state is in a contracted state.07-14-2011

20110319951Systems and Methods for Use by an Implantable Medical Device for Controlling Multi-Site CRT Pacing in the Presence of Atrial Tachycardia - Systems and methods are provided for use by implantable medical devices equipped to deliver multi-site left ventricular (MSLV) pacing. MSLV is associated with a relatively long post-ventricular atrial blanking (PVAB) period that might limit the detection of pathologic rapid organized atrial tachycardias (OAT). In one example, MSLV cardiac resynchronization therapy (CRT) pacing is delivered within a tracking mode. A possible atrial tachycardia is detected based on the atrial rate exceeding an atrial tachycardia assessment rate (ATAR) threshold. The device then switches to single-site LV pacing, thereby effectively shortening the PVAB to detect additional atrial events that might otherwise be obscured, and thereby permitting the device to more reliably distinguish organized atrial tachycardias (such as atrial flutter) from sinus tachycardia. The device may also employ an automatic mode switch (AMS) threshold that is set higher than the ATAR threshold for use in switching from tracking modes to nontracking modes.12-29-2011
20110319953SYSTEMS AND METHODS FOR USE BY AN IMPLANTABLE MEDICAL DEVICE FOR CONTROLLING MULTI-SITE CRT PACING IN THE PRESENCE OF ATRIAL TACHYCARDIA - Systems and methods are provided for use by implantable medical devices equipped to deliver multi-site left ventricular (MSLV) pacing. Sequential MSLV is associated with a relatively long post-ventricular atrial blanking (PVAB) period that might limit the detection of pathologic rapid organized atrial tachycardias (OAT). In one example, sequential MSLV cardiac resynchronization therapy (CRT) pacing is delivered within a tracking mode. A possible atrial tachycardia is detected based on the atrial rate exceeding an atrial tachycardia assessment rate (ATAR) threshold. The device then switches to either single-site LV pacing or simultaneous MSLV pacing, thereby effectively shortening the PVAB to detect additional atrial events that might otherwise be obscured, and thereby permitting the device to more reliably distinguish OATs (such as atrial flutter) from sinus tachycardia. The device may also employ an automatic mode switch (AMS) threshold set higher than the ATAR threshold for use in switching from tracking modes to nontracking modes.12-29-2011

20120109700Payroll System Optimization - In one preferred implementation, a business rules engine optimizes staffing decisions by accepting as inputs top-down constraint as well as bottom-up constraint rules to dynamically determine short to medium term optimal staffing patterns. The business rules engine of this embodiment optionally utilizes a Holt-Winters algorithm which factors in both seasonal and annualized trend information. In certain embodiments, the business rules engine is able to more accurately estimate necessary minimum staffing based on business constraints at both the strategic and operations levels. For instance, strategic (top-down) factors may include intentional overstaffing of stores during certain time periods or in certain key geographic regions, sales forecasts, aggregate margin enhancement, etc. Operational (bottom-up) factors can, in selected embodiments, include time-to-unload, time-to-stock, product throughput and related factors.05-03-2012
