PORTABLE RAMAN DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM - The present invention further relates to the selection of the specific filter combinations, which can provide sufficient information for multivariate calibration to extract accurate analyte concentrations in complex biological systems. The present invention also describes wavelength interval selection methods that give rise to the miniaturized designs. Finally, this invention presents a plurality of wavelength selection methods and miniaturized spectroscopic apparatus designs and the necessary tools to map from one domain (wavelength selection) to the other (design parameters). Such selection of informative spectral bands has a broad scope in miniaturizing any clinical diagnostic instruments which employ Raman spectroscopy in particular and other spectroscopic techniques in general. | 02-09-2012

Use of Nucleic Acid Probes to Detect Nucleotide Sequences of Interest in a Sample - The invention relates to methods for the determination and detection of nucleic acids sequences in a sample. The nucleic acid may be RNA or DNA or both. The invention also relates to methods for the determination of the presence and species of various microorganisms in a sample. We have also identified a set of oligonucleotide nucleic acid sequences within the rRNAs of Gram-negative organisms that facilitates both the broad identification of Gram-negative organisms as a class when used as a pool, or in combination, for example in a hybridization assay. This set of oligonucleotides may detect sequences that are indicative of the presence of organisms of the broad class of Gram-negative organisms while exhibiting little or no false identification of Gram-positive organisms, and fungi, or other microorganisms. The assay includes concurrent incubation with at least one nucleotide sequence of interest, at least one nucleic acid probe, a fluorosurfactant, and a nuclease. The assay may further be employed to detect the presence of bacteria, fungi, or other microorganisms by use of additional specific probes, or to detect and/or identify target nucleic acid sequences in a sample. Further, the invention also relates to methods of reducing non-specific binding and facilitating complex formation in a binding assay. The binding assay may be, but is not limited to, a nucleic acid hybridization assay or an immunoassay. The invention also relates to methods of detection that employ at least one target of interest, which may be a nucleotide sequence, at least one probe, which may be a nucleic acid probe and a nuclease. | 08-13-2009

STENT AND CATHETER ASSEMBLY AND METHOD FOR TREATING BIFURCATIONS - An improved stent system for treating a bifurcation. Up to three stents are mounted on two parallel balloon catheters wherein a proximal stent is disposed about both balloons while two distal stents are each disposed about one of the balloons. Such configuration enhances the flexibility of the assembly to facilitate its advancement through tortuous vasculature, while the structural independence of the stents maximizes the systems ability to spread into a wide range of bifurcation angles. A single link between each distal stent and the proximal stent may be relied upon to maintain relative stent position during deployment. | 01-08-2009
CATHETER ASSEMBLY AND METHOD FOR TREATING BIFURCATIONS - An improved stent design and stent delivery catheter assembly for repairing a main vessel and a side branch vessel forming a bifurcation. The stent includes rings aligned along a common longitudinal axis and connected by links, where the stent has one or more portals for aligning with and partially expanding into the opening to the side branch vessel. The stent is implanted at a bifurcation so that the main stent section is in the main vessel, and the portal section covers at least a portion of the opening to the side branch vessel. A second stent can be implanted in the side branch vessel and abut the expanded central section to provide full coverage of the bifurcated area in the main vessel and the side branch vessel. Radiopaque markers on the stent and on the tip of the delivery catheter assist in aligning the portal section with the opening to the side branch vessel. | 08-25-2011

Controller Providing Gradual Transition of Multiple Terminals from Unicast Transmission - A controller in a video headend or other transmission element of a signal distribution system is operative to detect a condition in which unicast transmissions of a given content stream to a plurality of terminals meet a specified threshold. The controller starts a multicast transmission of the given content stream in response to the detected condition, and transitions at least one of the terminals to the multicast transmission. In one embodiment, the controller identifies at least one of the terminals as a terminal that will receive the multicast transmission of the given content stream in place of its unicast transmission prior to one or more of the other terminals receiving the multicast transmission. The controller stops the unicast transmission to the identified terminal if that unicast transmission has already been started, starts the multicast transmission, switches the identified terminal to the multicast transmission, and subsequently transitions one or more of the other terminals to the multicast transmission. The identified terminal may be a leading terminal or a trailing terminal. | 09-22-2011

FAST CHANNEL CHANGE HANDLING OF LATE MULTICAST JOIN - In an internet protocol television (IPTV) system, fast channel change (FCC) transactions that experience late multicast joins are handled specially, thereby allowing the system to be provisioned for the vast majority of multicast joins that are within an expected range. During an FCC transaction, the subscriber interface device, such as a set-top box (STB), can determine how long it can wait to join the multicast stream of the new channel before a gap can be predicted to occur in the handover from the FCC unicast to the multicast. If the STB has not joined the multicast stream by the determined time, a recovery procedure is invoked in which the STB sends a RESTART request to the FCC server which, in turn, increases the rate of the FCC unicast as if the FCC transaction were restarted, thus allowing the handover to occur seamlessly. This solution reduces the demands of each FCC transaction, allowing for greater scalability and reduced cost. | 11-18-2010
