20120057841Registration of an extended reference for parameter measurement in an optical sensing system - A method and structure for terminating an optical fiber are disclosed that provide an optical fiber termination structure with a small volume and very low return loss, even when the termination is in close proximity to reflective surfaces. In one example embodiment, the optical fiber termination reduces reflections into the one or more cores to a return loss of −70 dB or less regardless of the presence of surfaces proximate the optical fiber termination. At the same time, a length of the optical fiber termination is less than 5 mm and a largest transverse dimension of the optical fiber termination is less than 325 um. The optical fiber termination is useful in fiber sensing applications in general and is particularly effective for terminating a multi-core fiber used in a distributed shape sensing application.03-08-2012

Various embodiments disclosed herein provide information to physicians about procedures they are performing, the devices (such as ablation needles, ultrasound wands or probes, scalpels, cauterizers, etc.) they are using during the procedure, the relative emplacements or poses of these devices, prediction information for those devices, and other information. Some embodiments provide useful information about 3D data sets. Additionally, some embodiments provide for quickly calibratable surgical instruments or attachments for surgical instruments.10-21-2010
20110082351REPRESENTING MEASUREMENT INFORMATION DURING A MEDICAL PROCEDURE - Various embodiments herein provide for representing measurement information during a medical procedure. Pose information is determined for one or more sensors. Measurements for the one or more sensors are then determined. The measurements can include measurements (e.g., temperature, radiation levels, etc.) of the sensors themselves as well as estimated measurements for other parts of the medical scene determined based on the sensors. After receiving the measurements, the measurements may be displayed relative to the rest of the procedure in a rendered 3D scene so that the doctor may be able to see measurements for various parts of the medical scene. Other embodiments herein provide for reducing the number of trackers needed to track and display a medical procedure based on a 3D model of the scene.04-07-2011

20090000706METHOD OF CONTROLLING AND REFINING FINAL GRAIN SIZE IN SUPERSOLVUS HEAT TREATED NICKEL-BASE SUPERALLOYS - A method of forming a component from a gamma prime precipitation-strengthened nickel-base superalloy. The method entails formulating the superalloy to have a sufficiently high carbon content and forging the superalloy at sufficiently high local strain rates so that, following a supersolvus heat treatment, the component is characterized by a fine and substantially uniform grain size distribution, preferably finer than ASTM 7 and more preferably in a range of about ASTM 8 to 10.01-01-2009

20080286161Methods and Devices for Performing Chemical Reactions on a Solid Support - Apparatus and methods for carrying out biochemical processes directly on a substrate are provided. A substrate assembly includes a cartridge that removably supports a substrate in a fixed position, and a reaction containment member that is removably located on top of the substrate. The reaction containment member includes one or more cavities that form chambers directly above one or more target locations on the surface of the substrate. The chambers can be used to conduct biochemical processes directly over the substrate, as well as to perform thermal cycling of material contained inside the chamber using a heating element disposed directly on the substrate. The substrate assembly is preferably used in combination with a processing machine that dispenses materials into the chambers and that conducts biochemical reactions of materials contained within the chambers, without requiring the substrate assembly to be moved from one location to another location during the processes.11-20-2008

20110189161NUTRIGENOMICS METHODS AND COMPOSITIONS - The present invention provides a proprietary compositions and systems to modulate genetic and metabolomic contributing factors affecting disease diagnosis, stratification, and prognosis, as well as the metabolism, efficacy and/or toxicity associated with specific vitamins, minerals, herbal supplements, homeopathic ingredients, and other ingredients for the purposes of customizing a subject's nutritional supplement formulation to optimize specific health outcomes. Specific to this invention the utilization of certain known polymorphic genes associated with Substance Use Disorder (SUD) are analyzed to target certain genetic anomalies that lead to a high risk and predisposition to SUD. The genotypic patterns are then utilized to provide certain nutritional customized solutions especially related to the attenuation of aberrant abuse of physician prescribed narcotic pain medication across all pain conditions. A priority GENOPROFILE is measured and directs the customization of a subsequent nutraceutical to act as a therapeutic modality. Specifically the treatment includes slow attenuation of the pain medication by incorporating orals (shakes, liquid beverages, pills, tablets, troche, ointments etc.), Intramuscular, Intravenous, intra-rectal and any form necessary to deliver a sufficient amount of an anti-craving and anti-stress nutraceutical.
