20080247366Forced silencing of transmitting device - Various embodiments are described relating to sharing scanning operations among nodes in a wireless network, such as a WiMedia ultra-wideband (UWB) network. In an example embodiment, a message may be sent from a sending node to one or more receiving nodes requesting the receiving nodes to reduce transmissions on a wireless medium. The sending node and the receiving nodes may be included in a distributed wireless network. In an example embodiment, the wireless medium may be scanned at the sending node to determine whether the one or more receiving nodes are participating in the distributed wireless network by periodically transmitting beacons during a repeated interval, wherein the scanning may be performed periodically, aperiodically, or continuously.10-09-2008
20090103435Dynamic rate adaptation for distributed wireless network - A control strategy and/or method by which (1) a network device may reduce energy consumption though the use of lower-rate mode(s) without affecting spectrum opportunities for other network devices, which may as a result increase energy efficiency in a networked device; and (2) a network device may reduce unnecessary use of higher-rate mode(s) to allow other devices to access the common medium, which may increase usage fairness amongst devices and overall network robustness.04-23-2009
20090111532METHOD AND SYSTEM FOR SUPPORTING RESIDUAL ENERGY AWARENESS IN AN AD HOC WIRELESS COMMUNICATIONS NETWORK - A method of coordinating devices in a wireless network is provided. First capability data associated with a first type of power source and a first state of the power source of a first device is received at a second device. Second capability data is transmitted to the first device from the second device. The second capability data is associated with a second type of power source and a second state of the power source of the second device. The first capability data is compared with the second capability data at the second device. If the comparison indicates the first capability data is less desirable than the second capability data, the second capability data is transmitted again to the first device from the second device. If the comparison indicates the first capability data is more desirable than the second capability data, the first capability data is received again from the first device at the second device.04-30-2009
20090213771FORWARDING IN DISTRIBUTED WIRELESS NETWORKS - A method, system, and computer program product are disclosed for providing a forwarding feature in the WiMedia MAC communication protocol or in other suitable communication protocols. The method enables a forwarder device to indicate its capability to operate as a forwarder device in its beacon transmissions and to enable an initiating device to utilize the forwarder device for communicating data and/or network control information to destination devices that can be accessed through the forwarder device over two or more hops.08-27-2009
20090323697DATA PAYLOAD TRANSMISSION VIA CONTROL PLANE SIGNALING - A system for implementing a communication transports in a configuration that may utilize control plane resources for the conveyance of data. A communication protocol may be originally designed to support planned data conveyance at a data plane. This strategy may improve quality of service for the transport, but may impact the execution speed of communication due to the required overhead involved in scheduling. In view of this limitation, messages that are sensitive to delay may be negatively impacted by scheduling steps occurring in mediums such as described above. Execution speed may be increased by routing certain payloads to the control plane for transmission in a beacon signal, which avoids the overhead inherent in the data plane.12-31-2009
20100097946OPTIMIZED DATA TRANSFER BETWEEN APPROACHING DEVICES - A method, system, and computer program product are disclosed for passively sensing with a hot spot wireless device, a presence of beacon messages from any other wireless devices within a coverage area, ignoring active beacon group merging operations, allowing a mobile wireless device to join in the beacon group, within the coverage area and exchanging beacon messages with the mobile wireless device, actively sensing by exchanging a sequence of test frames with the mobile wireless device using a plurality of modes supported by both the mobile wireless device and the hot spot wireless device, and exchanging data with the mobile wireless device after the actively sensing step.04-22-2010
20100113042WIRELESS NETWORK DISCOVERY - The example embodiments may delay initiation of channel access procedure for transmitting a network discovery message to a network potentially employing directional communication between at least some of the nodes in the network, until a threshold for channel access initiation is met. Meeting the threshold includes satisfying at least one of the following criteria conditions: detecting no activity for at least a predetermined duration of time, or receiving a frame indicating a closure time of a directional communication in the network, or receiving a frame indicating a starting time of an omnidirectional communication period in the network. After meeting at least one of the threshold criteria conditions, the example embodiments may initiate the channel access procedure.05-06-2010
20100159845SYSTEM FOR FACILITATING BEAM TRAINING - A system for configuring antenna systems for selecting directional communication signals corresponding to other apparatuses. Apparatuses having activities that require directional wireless communication may search for other apparatuses that can fulfill these requirements. This search may include, for example, the transmission of wireless messages requesting a set of communication beams usable for beam training (for example, one or more beam training sequences). Other apparatuses that are able to satisfy the requirements of the searching apparatus may respond to the request message by transmitting a message that comprises at least information usable for configuring beam training configuration in the apparatus.06-24-2010
20110119486METHOD AND APPARATUS FOR MANAGING ACCESS RIGHTS TO INFORMATION SPACES - An approach is provided for managing access rights of users to information spaces using signatures stored in a memory tag. A signature manager caused reading of a memory tag to initiate a request, from a device, for an initial access to an information space. The request includes an authorization signature associated with the device. The signature manager determines a level of access to the information space by comparing the authorization signature against a lattice of signature primitives associated with the information space. The signature manager then modifies the authorization signature based on the determination and stores the modified authorization signature for validation of subsequent access to the information space by the device.05-19-2011
20110161514METHOD AND APPARATUS FOR DELEGATING COMPUTATIONALLY INTENSIVE FUNCTIONS - A method and apparatus are provided for receiving compressed sensed data at a device and providing for decompression of the compressed sensed data at a delegated resource. A method of using resources may be provided with superior processing capacity and/or power capacity for computationally intensive decompression of compressed sensed data. A method may include determining a target recipient device for decompressed data, determining the appropriate decompressed data format for the decompressed data, and determining a delegated resource to select for decompression of the compressed sensed data. The method may further include providing for transmission of the compressed sensed data to the delegated resource.06-30-2011
