Computing Visual and Textual Summaries for Tagged Image Collections - Described is a technology for computing visual and textual summaries for tagged image collections. Heterogeneous affinity propagation is used to together identify both visual and textual exemplars. The heterogeneous affinity propagation finds the exemplars for relational heterogeneous data (e.g., images and words) by considering the relationships (e.g., similarities) within pairs of images, pairs of words, and relationships of words to images (affinity) in an integrated manner. | 11-11-2010
CONCEPT-STRUCTURED IMAGE SEARCH - The concept-structured image search technique described herein pertains to a technique for enabling a user to indicate their semantic intention and then retrieve and rank images from a database or other image set according to this intention. The concept-structured image search technique described herein includes a new interface for image search. With this interface, a user can freely type several key textual words in arbitrary positions on a blank image, and also describe a region for each keyword that indicates its influence scope, which is called concept structure herein. The concept-structured image search technique will return and rank images that are in accordance with the concept structure indicated by the user. One embodiment of the technique can be used to create a synthesized image without actually using the synthesized image to perform a search of an image set. | 03-24-2011
CONTEXTUAL IMAGE SEARCH - Techniques for image search using contextual information related to a user query are described. A user query including at least one of textual data or image data from a collection of data displayed by a computing device is received from a user. At least one other subset of data selected from the collection of data is received as contextual information that is related to and different from the user query. Data files such as image files are retrieved and ranked based on the user query to provide a pre-ranked set of data files. The pre-ranked data files are then ranked based on the contextual information to provide a re-ranked set of data files to be displayed to the user. | 08-04-2011

Automated Purchase Assembly Conversion Process To Support A Dynamic Configure-To-Order Production Operation - A computer implemented method, a tangible computer usable medium, and a data processing system allocate materials to an automated purchase assembly conversion process to support a dynamic configure-to-order production operation. A configure-to-order backlog order is analyzed to determine demand for a particular purchase assembly. If the demand for the particular purchase assembly can be filled with an on-hand purchase assembly in inventory, the on-hand purchase assembly in inventory is allocated to fill the demand. If the demand for the particular purchase assembly can not be filled with an on-hand purchase assembly in inventory, a determination is made as to whether the demand for the particular purchase assembly can be filled by reallocating other similar on-hand purchase assembly in inventory and on-hand individual parts. If the demand for the particular purchase assembly can be filled by reallocating other on-hand purchase assembly in inventory and on-hand individual parts, the on-hand purchase assembly in inventory and the on-hand individual parts are reallocated to fill the demand. | 10-28-2010

DEVICE AND METHOD FOR ENABLING LONG-LIVED SNAPSHOTS - Decreasing disk costs make it possible to take frequent snapshots of past storage system states and retain them for a long duration. Existing snapshot approaches offer no satisfactory solution to long-lived snapshots. Split snapshots are an approach that is promising because it does not disrupt the current state storage system in either the short or the long run. An unsolved problem has been how to maintain an efficient access method for long-lived split snapshots without imposing undesirable overhead on the storage system. Skippy is a new approach that inexpensively indexes long-lived snapshots in parallel with snapshot creation. An embodiment of Skippy uses append-only index data structures to optimize writes while simultaneously providing low-latency snapshot lookup. Performance evaluations of Skippy indicate that this new approach is effective and efficient. It provides close-to-optimal access to long-lived snapshots while incurring a minimal impact on the current-state storage system. | 09-23-2010

TRANSCODING METHOD, TRANSCODING DEVICE AND COMMUNICATION APPARATUS - The embodiments of a transcoding method, a transcoding device, and a communication apparatus are provided. The embodiment of a method includes: receiving a bit stream input from a sending end; determining an attribute of discontinuous transmission (DTX) used by a receiving end and a frame type of the input bit stream; and transcoding the input bit stream in a corresponding processing manner according to a determination result. Thereby, a corresponding transcoding operation is performed on the input bit stream according to the attribute of DTX used by the receiving end and the frame type of the input bit stream. In such a manner, input bit streams of various types can be processed, and the input bit streams can be correspondingly transcoded according to the requirements of the receiving end. Therefore, the average computational complexity and peak computational complexity can be effectively decreased without decreasing the quality of the synthesized speech. | 07-22-2010

THERMAL CONTROL OF OPTICAL COMPONENTS - A linearized thermal and optical model of an optical integrated circuit can be used to temperature-stabilize one or more optical elements of the circuit using active temperature regulation. To stabilize a single optical element, a temperature sensor and a heater can be provided proximate to the grating. Thermal and optical coefficients can be then used to select an appropriate temperature set-point for the temperature controller that receives readings from the sensor and determines the power dissipated in the heater. Multiple optical elements can be stabilized individually, using the same process and lumping cross-heating factors together with other environmental factors. Alternatively, multiple AWG's can be stabilized using fewer sensors than optical elements, by stabilizing one of the optical elements in the same manner as in the case of a single optical elements, and determining power dissipated in the heaters of the remaining optical elements based on the linearized model. | 04-02-2009
