20110030657SKIP FIRE ENGINE CONTROL - A variety of methods and arrangements for controlling the operation of an internal combustion engine in a skip fire variable displacement mode are described. Generally, an engine is controlled to operate in a skip fire variable displacement mode. In the variable displacement mode, selected combustion events are skipped so that other working cycles can operate at better thermodynamic efficiency. More specifically, selected “skipped” working cycles are not fired while other “active” working cycles are fired. Typically, fuel is not delivered to the working chambers during skipped working cycles. In one aspect of the invention, a firing pattern is determined that is not fixed but the active working cycles are selected to favor the firing of working chambers that have recently been fired at least in part to reduce wall wetting losses. In another aspect of the invention, when an active working cycle follows a skipped working cycle in the same working chamber, the quanta of fuel injected for delivery to the working chamber is increased relative to the quanta of fuel that would be delivered to the working chamber when the active working cycle follows another active working cycle in the same working chamber in order to compensate for wall wetting losses that occur during skipped working cycles.02-10-2011

20090103453Network Planning and Optimization of Equipment Deployment - Embodiments of the present invention provide systems, devices and methods for improving the efficient deployment and configuration of networking equipment within a network build-out. In certain embodiments of the invention, an iterative analysis of inter-node equipment placement and connectivity, and inter- and intra-node traffic flow is performed to identify a preferred deployment solution. This analysis of deployment optimization takes into account both configurations from a network node perspective as well as from a network system perspective. Deployment solutions are iteratively progressed and analyzed to determine a preferred solution based on both the cost of deployment and satisfaction of the network demands. In various embodiments of the invention, a baseline marker is generated from which the accuracy of the solution may be approximated that suggests to an engineer whether the deployment is approaching an optimal solution.04-23-2009
20100158529METHOD FOR WAVELENGTH ASSIGNMENT IN A WDM NETWORK - In accordance with the present disclosure, a method of configuring a wavelength division multiplexed (WDM) network is presented. The WDM network includes circuits that carry optical signals, with each signal corresponding to a wavelength. The WDM network includes nodes, with links connecting the nodes to one another. Each circuit includes at least one link and at least one node. The method comprises assigning each of the circuits to an optical signal, based on first and second criteria, and configuring the nodes based on the assignment.06-24-2010
20110243552OPTICAL AUTODISCOVERY FOR AUTOMATED LOGICAL AND PHYSICAL CONNECTIVITY CHECK BETWEEN OPTICAL MODULES - Optical autodiscovery is provide between two optical modules to insure that when an optical signal is coupled between the two optical module, the optical signal from a first module does not interfere with operation of a second module. The autodiscovery is implemented by sending an optical identification signal from the first optical module via the coupling to the second optical module from which signal, the second optical module can verify and determined acceptance of the coupled first optical module. During this autodiscovery process, the optical identification signal from the first optical module may be attenuated or shifted in optical spectrum so as not to interfere with the operation of the second optical module. Autodiscovery may also be employed in cases where a first optical module is to receive an optical signal from a second module.10-06-2011

20090229913Dual Mode Exhaust Muffler - A dual mode exhaust muffler for the engine of a vehicle that may be shifted between a quiet mode and a loud mode. A single muffler, a dual transverse muffler with two independent exhaust flow streams, and a dual transverse muffler with a combined exhaust flow stream embodiments are disclosed. An inlet tube may be a solid wall tube to minimize sound attenuation in the loud mode. The dual transverse muffler embodiments utilize an exhaust flow path that passes out through a reticulated wall of one tube and passes into a reticulated wall of a second tube. A vacuum switch having a two position on/off slide actuator may be used with any of the muffler assemblies.09-17-2009
