20090033296DEVICE, METHOD, AND SYSTEM FOR IMPROVING ELECTRICAL POWER FACTOR AND HARMONIC POWER QUALITY THROUGH ACTIVE CONTROL OF POWER QUALITY IMPROVING ELECTRICAL APPLIANCES - A system, method and device for controlling and modifying the current drawn by an electrical load in a way that will improve the electrical power factor and harmonic quality of at least a portion of an electrical power system. In one embodiment of the invention, the invention includes a controller device that monitors the electrical current entering a site and modifies or corrects power quality of the current by directing how power will be consumed by the appliances at a site to improve the harmonic and power factor qualities of the electrical current entering the site.02-05-2009
20100253290Method and apparatus for smart battery charging - A method for managing the charging and discharging of batteries wherein at least one battery is connected to a battery charger, the battery charger is connected to a power supply. A plurality of controllers in communication with one and another are provided, each of the controllers monitoring a subset of input variables. A set of charging constraints may then generated for each controller as a function of the subset of input variables. A set of objectives for each controller may also be generated. A preferred charge rate for each controller is generated as a function of either the set of objectives, the charging constraints, or both, using an algorithm that accounts for each of the preferred charge rates for each of the controllers and/or that does not violate any of the charging constraints. A current flow between the battery and the battery charger is then provided at the actual charge rate.10-07-2010
20100289451Battery Charging Control Methods, Electric Vehicle Charging Methods, Battery Charging Apparatuses And Rechargeable Battery Systems - Battery charging control methods, electric vehicle charging methods, battery charging apparatuses and rechargeable battery systems are described. According to one aspect, a battery charging control method includes accessing information regarding a presence of at least one of a surplus and a deficiency of electrical energy upon an electrical power distribution system at a plurality of different moments in time, and using the information, controlling an adjustment of an amount of the electrical energy provided from the electrical power distribution system to a rechargeable battery to charge the rechargeable battery.11-18-2010
20110147360Thermal Energy Storage Apparatus, Controllers And Thermal Energy Storage Control Methods - Thermal energy storage apparatus, controllers and thermal energy storage control methods are described. According to one aspect, a thermal energy storage apparatus controller includes processing circuitry configured to access first information which is indicative of surpluses and deficiencies of electrical energy upon an electrical power system at a plurality of moments in time, access second information which is indicative of temperature of a thermal energy storage medium at a plurality of moments in time, and use the first and second information to control an amount of electrical energy which is utilized by a heating element to heat the thermal energy storage medium at a plurality of moments in time.06-23-2011
20110147473WATER HEATER CONTROL MODULE - An advanced electric water heater control system that interfaces with a high temperature cut-off thermostat and an upper regulating thermostat. The system includes a control module that is electrically connected to the high-temperature cut-off thermostat and the upper regulating thermostat. The control module includes a switch to open or close the high-temperature cut-off thermostat and the upper regulating thermostat. The control module further includes circuitry configured to control said switch in response to a signal selected from the group of an autonomous signal, a communicated signal, and combinations thereof.06-23-2011
20110245987GRID REGULATION SERVICES FOR ENERGY STORAGE DEVICES BASED ON GRID FREQUENCY - Disclosed herein are representative embodiments of methods, apparatus, and systems for charging and discharging an energy storage device connected to an electrical power distribution system. In one exemplary embodiment, a controller monitors electrical characteristics of an electrical power distribution system and provides an output to a bi-directional charger causing the charger to charge or discharge an energy storage device (e.g., a battery in a plug-in hybrid electric vehicle (PHEV)).10-06-2011
20110270452SCHEDULING AND MODELING THE OPERATION OF CONTROLLABLE AND NON-CONTROLLABLE ELECTRONIC DEVICES - Disclosed herein are representative embodiments of methods, apparatus, and systems for controlling and scheduling power distribution in a power network, such as household power network. One disclosed embodiment is a system comprising a central controller and a control device coupled to a household appliance. The central controller can comprise computing hardware coupled to a wireless transceiver. The central controller can be configured to generate and transmit control signals for controlling the operational state of the household appliance according to the schedule. Furthermore, the control device can be configured to receive the transmitted control signals from the central controller and to control the operational state of the household appliance in response to the control signals.11-03-2011

20100278311DEVICE AND METHOD FOR SCALING MEDICAL IMAGES - A radiographic image scaling device comprises a mounting unit and a reference object attached to the mounting unit. The reference object has a known actual size and shape and a sufficient radio-opacity to be visibly measurable in a radiographic image. The mounting unit has a radio-opacity that is different than that of the reference object, and a rigid body with at least one curved portion engagable with a surface for receiving a subject. The reference object is attached to a location on the mounting unit body that incremental movement of the mounting unit relative to the surface along the curved portion causes the reference object to incrementally move relative to the surface. Particularly, the reference object can be radio-opaque and the mounting unit can be is radiolucent.11-04-2010
