20080310303QUALITY OF SERVICE INFORMATION CONFIGURATION - Quality of service information can be used to facilitate wireless communication. A network entity, such as a terminal, as well as a network can initialize an authorization to establish a link using quality of service information. Various features can be integrated with the use of quality of service information, such as having quality of service reservation before a call and supplying a permanent identity for use in correlation.12-18-2008
20090303881METHODS AND APPARATUS FOR NETWORK CONTROLLED MOBILE IP FLOW MOVEMENT - Methods and apparatus for network controlled mobile IP flow movement. An infrastructure node, such as a home agent, signals a mapping between care-of-addresses (CoAs) and flows to be transmitted from a mobile device in uplink communications. The CoA associated with each flow is determined from network, device, and/or flow information. A mobile node or mobile gateway receives the mapping and updates its local policy information. When a selected flow is to be transmitted in an uplink transmission, the local policy information is used to determine the CoA associated with the selected flow. The CoA is then used to determine an access network (or access path) on which the uplink transmission of the selected flow is to occur.12-10-2009
20090305701METHOD AND APPARATUS FOR PCC ENHANCEMENT FOR FLOW BASED MOBILITY - Systems and methods are described that facilitate multiple registrations and flow based mobility in a wireless communication network. A flow routing component can be included in a mobile device, home agent/p-gateway, or a policy and charging rules function server that determines the manner in which to route one or more IP flows through a set of network access entry points. The flow routing component can determine the routing based on a set of policies and/or network data, such as quality of service requirements, bandwidth requirements, network congestion, currently active IP flows, and so forth.12-10-2009
20090319676Conveying Session Continuity Information in a Multi-Component Communication Session - In a multimedia communication session with multiple media components, one or more media components can be transferred from one access network to another access network and yet maintain the continuity of the overall communication session. Each session is first identified and thereafter the media component intended to be transferred is also identified. The identities of the identified session and component are sent to one or more entities within the communication network for executing the media component transfer.12-24-2009
20100039936SYSTEMS AND METHOD FOR QUALITY OF SERVICE CONTROL OVER MULTIPLE ACCESSES - Systems and methods for quality of service control over multiple accesses, more particularly quality of service control over multiple accesses via enhanced quality of service rules. A policy rules and charging function, or similar network entity, can include an indicator in a set of quality of service rules that instructs an access gateway to either setup the quality of service resources/initiate bearer setup immediately, or store the quality of service rules until a request for the quality of service resources s received from the UE or another predetermined event occurs.02-18-2010
20100048216SYSTEM AND METHOD FOR HANDOFF FROM A MACRO ACCESS NETWORK TO A FEMTO ACCESS POINT - Devices and methods are provided for handing off an access terminal from a macro base station to a femto access point (AP). In one embodiment, the method involves receiving a facilities directive or the like from a communication network entity, such as, for example, a serving mobile switching center (MSC). The method may involve selecting the femto AP based at least in part on femto configuration information, which may include at least one global identifier of the femto AP. The method may involve determining a uniform resource identifier of the femto AP based at least in part on at least one global identifier (e.g., MSC identifier and/or cell identifier).02-25-2010
20100081444SYNCHRONIZING BEARER CONTEXT - Bearer context maintained by an access terminal is synchronized with a network so that a change in the status of the bearer context may be reflected at the network. For example, if an access terminal determines that a resource previously requested by the access terminal is no longer needed, the access terminal may deactivate the bearer context locally in a case where the access terminal is unable to communicate with the network. In such a case, the access terminal may synchronize its bearer context with the network once the access terminal reestablishes communication with the network. For example, the access terminal may send a message to the network indicating that the access terminal has deactivated the bearer context.04-01-2010
20100142373PERFORMING PACKET FLOW OPTIMIZATION WITH POLICY AND CHARGING CONTROL - Policy and charging control (PCC) is a framework within a Third or Fourth Generation (3G/4G) network that allows operators to authorize and enforce policy, Quality of Service (QoS), and charging control over communication sessions by mobile devices. PCC mechanism is used to determine the type QoS based on a request received from a User Equipment (UE) or network. PCC is one important element within System Architecture Evolution (SAE) architecture to allow the network to perform policy and charging control. A mechanism is provided so that PCC can allow packet flow optimization. Thereby, the network can detect Internet Protocol (IP) flows based on operator defined criteria and can perform policy and QoS control.06-10-2010
20100303012Fall Back Using Mobile Device Assisted Terminating Access Domain Selection - Fall back using mobile device assisted terminating access domain selection is provided. A network entity forwards an invitation to a session to a mobile device. Session has packet switched bearers for media. Mobile device replies with a rejection of the invitation and a request for network entity to hold the session. Rejection is based on mobile device determining circuit switched bearers should be utilized. Mobile device sends a circuit switched call and network entity correlates the circuit switched call with the session. A dialog is set up over circuit switched domain bearers and Internet Protocol Multimedia Subsystem bearers.12-02-2010
20100309843Apparatus and Method for Providing Mobility to IMS Sessions in Mobile IP Networks - An apparatus and method for providing mobility to IMS sessions comprising connecting to an APN through a 3GPP access; determining if a non-3GPP access is available; determining if the APN is specific to an IMS application being used or desired to be used, or if an IP header of an IMS application flow matches a configured pattern; and performing one of: a) triggering an IMS Session Continuity flow through the non-3GPP access for the IMS application based on one of the following: if the APN is specific to the IMS application or if the IP header of the IMS application flow matches the configured pattern; or b) triggering an IP mobility flow through the non-3GPP access for the IMS application or a non-IMS application if the APN is not specific to the IMS application and if the IP header of the IMS application flow does not match the configured pattern.12-09-2010
20110088080Apparatus and Method for Authorization for Access Point Name (APN) Usage in a Specific Access - An apparatus and method for receiving a request for authorization and access from a requestor; determining the association of a care-of-address (CoA) in the request with an access technology used by the requestor; administering authorization rules based on the association of the care-of-address (COA) and the access technology; and determining either to allow access or to deny access to the requestor using results from administering the authorization rules.04-14-2011

20110141890RADIO ACCESS NETWORK CONTROL OF MULTIMEDIA APPLICATION DATA RATES - This disclosure enables a radio access network to control media data rates and codec parameters selected during multimedia session establishment. As the load on a radio network changes, operators desire to have the ability to control what data rate new multimedia sessions (e.g., VoIP) are to utilize, thereby allowing the operator to conduct a trade-off between voice/video quality and capacity during heavy loading periods. The multimedia communication session may be initiated with a determined guaranteed bit rate, where the guaranteed bit rate is requested, negotiated as one of several acceptable guaranteed bit rates, or based upon maximum system capacity, to take advantage of maximum data rate for the equipment in use. The session may also be initiated with a determined Quality of Service based upon either a network or user equipment installed policy.06-16-2011
