C4D/C4B STANDARD FOR QUANTITATIVE FLOW CYTOMETRY OF HUMORAL TRANSPLANT REJECTION - The invention concerns an internal standard used to quantitative analysis of the risk of humoral (i.e. vascular) transplant rejection. The internal standard consists of a stable composition of the C4d complement bound to a carrier consisting of erythrocytes or microparticles. The invention also concerns a method for analyzing in vitro the risk of humoral organ transplant rejection, which consists in determining the amount of component of C4d component fixed on the erythrocytes contained in a blood sample from a patient. | 12-10-2009

METHOD AND APPARATUS FOR FORMING TITANIUM-ALUMINIUM BASED ALLOYS - Disclosed herein are reactors and methods for forming alloys based on titanium-aluminium or alloys based on titanium-aluminium inter-metallic compounds. The reactor comprises a first section having an inlet through which precursor material comprising titanium subchlorides and aluminium can be introduced. The first section is heatable to a first temperature at which reactions between the titanium subchlorides and aluminium can occur, and further comprises a gas outlet via which any gaseous by-product formed can be removed. The reactor also comprises a second section which can be heated to a second temperature at which reactions of material transferred from the first section can occur to form the titanium-aluminium based alloy, a gas driver adapted in use to cause any gaseous by-product formed in the reactions in the second section to move in a direction towards the first section, and an intermediate section between the first and second sections. The intermediate section can be heated to an intermediate temperature at which at least a portion of material transferred from the first section can accrete and form a cake on a surface of the intermediate section and at which gaseous by-product formed in the reactions in the second section can be received and condensed. The reactor also comprises a removing apparatus for removing caked material from the surface of the intermediate section and transferring it to the second section. | 04-21-2011

Apparatus and Methods for the Production of Metal Compounds - The present invention relates to a stepwise method for the production of titanium-aluminium compounds and some titanium alloys and titanium-aluminium inter-metallic compounds and alloys. In a first step an amount of aluminium is mixed with an amount of aluminium chloride (AlCl3) and then an amount of titanium chloride (TiCl4) is added to the mixture. The mixture is heated to a temperature of less than 220° C. to form a product of TiCl3, aluminium and AlCl3. In a second step, more aluminium can be added if required, and the mixture heated again to a temperature above 900° C. to form titanium-aluminium compounds. This method results in the production of powdered forms of titanium-aluminium compounds with controllable composition. Suitable reactor apparatus is also described. | 07-02-2009

Electronic payment and associated systems - By linking together mobile telephony systems having small message service capacity and payment clearance systems such as those operated by banks and credit card companies, substantial facilitation of electronic payments may be achieved. Existing security systems designed to protect the mobile telephony system, for example SIM cards and optional encryption provide a base level of transaction security which may be enhanced by suitable programming to require the use of a PIN to validate a transaction. By linking such systems with e.g. ATMs, the usefulness of a mobile telephone, where each assigned telephone number essentially functions as a player identity number (or, in certain enhancements, as an account number), substantial transaction economies can be achieved without compromising security, with excellent audit trail features and with automatically generated confirmations and acknowledgements. | 08-13-2009

SIDE CURTAIN AIRBAG INSTALLATION SYSTEM - Installation system for fastening a side curtain airbag to a motor vehicle comprising an airbag with a hollow filling portion which may be inflated by a gas generator and a fastening edge. The installation system has a laterally open fastening profile with a continuous groove which may correspond to the length of the airbag. The fastening profile is arranged on the vehicle and defines a slit-like opening. A thickened guide extends along the fastening edge and is configured to be inserted into the fastening profile. The thickened guide is received in the groove and has a cross section that is at least partially larger than the slit-like opening of the fastening profile. | 10-13-2011
OCCUPANT PROTECTION AIRBAG FOR A VEHICLE - An occupant protection airbag device for a vehicle includes a housing having an opening and a closed end, a strut secured to the housing adjacent the closed end and extending from the closed end toward the opening, and an inflator supported by the strut adjacent the opening and spaced from the closed end to form a storage chamber between the inflator and the closed end of the housing. The inflator is spaced from an inner wall of the housing to form a gap therebetween. An airbag is stored in a deflated condition between the inflator and the closed end of the housing, and a forward-most layer of the airbag passes through the gap and around a surface of the inflator immediately adjacent the opening. | 10-27-2011

Method for analyzing a wavefront through frequency difference multilateral interferometry - The method comprises positioning a diffraction grating with a two-dimensional meshing on the path of the beam to be analyzed and processing at least two interferograms of at least two different colors, each interferogram being obtained in a plane from two sub-beams with different diffraction orders. The invention can be used to analyze and correct divided wavefronts. | 02-26-2009
METHOD, PHASE GRATING AND DEVICE FOR ANALYZING A WAVE SURFACE OF A LIGHT BEAM - The application relates to a method for analyzing the wave surface of a light beam from a source to the focus of a lens. The beam illuminates a sample on the analysis plane and having a defect. A diffraction grating of the plane is a conjugate of an analysis plane through a focal system. An image is formed in a plane at a distance from the grating plane and analyzed by processing means. The invention encodes this grating by a phase function resulting from the multiplication of two phase functions, a first exclusion function defining a meshing of useful zones transmitting the beam to be analyzed in the form of light pencil beams, and a second phase fundamental function which creates a phase opposition between two light pencil beams coming out of adjacent meshes of the exclusion grating. | 10-22-2009
