20080221485Device and Method for Determining at Least One Characteristic Point of Joint to be Orthopedically Measured - The invention relates to a device for determining at least one characteristic point of a joint which joins together two limbs and is to be measured orthopedically, said device comprising a first coupling element which may be positioned on a first limb adjoining the joint, a second coupling element which may be moved relative to the first coupling element and may be positioned on a second limb adjoining the joint, and a measuring device for determining the position of the first coupling element relative to the second coupling element. This device provides that the measuring device has at least one reference point rigidly connected to one of the first and second coupling elements, and also has a reference point detection device rigidly connected to the respective other of the first and second coupling elements, the reference point detection device detecting a plurality of positions of the reference point relative to the reference point detection device during a movement of the first and second limbs with respect to one another and determining therefrom the at least one characteristic point.09-11-2008
20110135169Method and Device for Detecting a Hand-Written Signature or Mark and for Recognising the Authenticity of Said Signature or Mark - A method and device for registering a handwritten personal signature and for judging its authenticity by comparison with previously registered measured values and data derived therefrom. Signature data is acquired by registering a signature handwritten on a surface by a three-dimensional inertial sensing system having rate-of-rotation sensors and linear acceleration sensors. The data is subjected to a subsequent procedure of recognition or verification or comparison with other signatures. Hence not only tracking is performed with reference to the tip of a writing implement, but the dynamics of the signature are registered and evaluated by numerical calculation and adopted as the basis for the subsequent comparison, effectively ruling out the possibility of fraudulent duplication or tracing-over of a signature by an unauthorized third party. The dynamics i.e. acceleration and deceleration phenomena and rates of rotation as the signature are executed and effectively registered. From them, supplementary measured variables are calculated and specific characteristics are defined from those variables. Those variables are adopted as the basis for comparison, the degree of accuracy of the verification that the signature is genuine can be substantially increased.06-09-2011

20100268278TENSION BAND - Various embodiments of a vertebral tension band assembly and associated connection structure are provided. The tension band assemblies may be attached to vertebral bodies to, for example, connect one vertebrae to another, retain the band in approximately a preferred position by application of tension to the band during insertion and/or limit, impede, inhibit, reduce or interfere with the separation from one vertebra to another and may further block, impede, interfere with, inhibit, reduce or present an obstacle to dislodgement of a spinal implant from between the vertebrae to which it is attached. Flexible band portions of the assemblies may be treated and/or configured to promote bony integration between the band and the associated vertebrae, limit tissue adhesion to the band, and/or to elute a therapeutic substance from the installed band to the surgical site.10-21-2010
