20090028743FORMING MAGNESIUM ALLOYS WITH IMPROVED DUCTILITY - A magnesium alloy comprising up to about one weight percent of cerium may be hot worked to produce an intermediate or final alloy workpiece that exhibits enhanced ductility at room temperature. The addition of a small amount of cerium may affect the magnesium alloy by reducing yield strength, refining grain size, and improving the work hardening behavior. Recrystallization during hot deformation of the rare earth containing magnesium material alters the texture of the alloy and orients the grains in a manner that favors basal slip activity. The alloy thus deforms at room temperature by a combination of twinning and slip mechanisms.01-29-2009

20090220152Method and system to detect and quantify blockiness in video files - A method and system for detecting and quantifying blockiness in a video file is disclosed. The video file is a file that has been decompressed by using standard DCT algorithms. The method includes segmenting each frame of the video file into multiple blocks. The method also involves comparing the intensity gradients of each block with one or more threshold values. The one or more threshold values represent predefined intensity variation characteristics. Further, the method includes determining the intensity variation parameters of each block, based on the comparison. Thereafter, a blockiness index is calculated for each block, after which a blockiness value is calculated for each frame. Finally, a blockiness level is assigned to each frame, based on its blockiness value. The blockiness level is a comparative measure of the blockiness of a frame that represents the blockiness content in the frame.09-03-2009

20110220577PROCESS FOR THE REMOVAL OF ARSENIC AND CHROMIUM FROM WATER - The present invention provides low cost and highly effective method for the removal of arsenic and Cr(III&VI) from contaminated water using zinc peroxide nanoparticles (20±5 nm) capped with glycerol/PVP/TEA upto the permissible range of drinking water. As Arsenic and chromium occurs naturally in the earth's crust. When rocks, minerals, and soil erode, they release arsenic and chromium into groundwater. Arsenic and chromium occurs naturally in varying amounts in groundwater in various parts of country from ppb level to ppm level. The average concentration of arsenic and chromium as per USEPA standard in drinking water it is 10 parts per billion and 0.05 ppm (50 ppb) respectively. In drinking water the level of chromium is usually low as well, but contaminated water may contain the dangerous Cr(III&VI). Although Cr(III) is an essential nutrient for humans and shortages may cause heart problems, disruptions of metabolisms and diabetes. But the uptake of too much Cr(III) can cause health effects as well, for instance skin rashes. Cr(VI) is known to cause various health effects Skin rashes, upset stomachs, respiratory problems, weakened immune systems, kidney and liver damage and lung cancer The persons who are drinking water having upto 50 ppb of arsenic and 0.05 ppm chromium over for many years could experience skin damage or problems with their circulatory system, and may have an increased risk of getting cancer. Keeping the above facts we developed a cost effective nanoparticles for the removal of Arsenic and Cr(III&VI) from potable water upto potable range.09-15-2011
