20080215583Ranking and Suggesting Candidate Objects - A method of ranking and suggesting objects, such as tags, is described in which a group of objects are suggested to a user in relation to a particular information object, such as a web page or file. A user either selects one of the suggestions or enters an alternative object and on receipt of data identifying the particular object selected by the user, the group of suggestions is updated based on whether the object selected by the user was one of the suggestions or not. The updating of the group may also be based on other factors, such as ranking parameters associated with each of the objects.09-04-2008
20090003216Multipath Forwarding Algorithms Using Network Coding - A method of transmitting data across a wireless mesh network is described which uses network coding at each of the intermediate nodes between the source node and the destination node. Each intermediate node also controls the rate at which it broadcasts packets based on link congestion and the backlog of packets at each of the possible next-hop nodes for the data flow.01-01-2009
20090296685User-Mode Prototypes in Kernel-Mode Protocol Stacks - Methods of enabling user-mode prototypes in kernel-mode protocol stacks are described. A protocol stack comprises a set of kernel-mode modules. The protocol stack defines a data path for packets. At least one interception point is defined in a kernel-mode module at which a packet can be intercepted and/or inserted. In an embodiment, each packet intercepted at the interception point, or a copy of said packet, is sent to a user-mode module. The user-mode module processes the packet in some way and then returns the packet to the same, or a different, interception point in the data path. In this way, a user-mode module (which is easier to program) can be used to prototype functionality of a kernel-mode module without requiring kernel-mode code to be written.12-03-2009
20100027424Path Estimation in a Wireless Mesh Network - Methods and algorithms for path estimation in a wireless mesh network are described. In an embodiment, each node calculates its cost for a packet flow based on the back-log at the node and the cost of downstream neighbor nodes for the flow. The cost is communicated to the upstream neighbor nodes for the flow. When a node has an opportunity to transmit a packet, a flow is selected by the node based on the back-log at the node and the costs received from each of the downstream neighbor nodes. These costs are then also used to select a downstream neighbor node is selected based on the costs received from each of the downstream neighbor nodes. A packet re-ordering algorithm is also described which intercepts packets received at a node and delays delivery of the packet to the IP layer if an earlier packet in the sequence of packets has not been received.02-04-2010
20110013516Control of Background Data Transfers - Control of background data transfers is described. In an embodiment, a background data transfer is controlled at a receiver node by measuring a time period taken to receive from a sender node a data sequence of the same size as a receive window. The time period is used to evaluate available network capacity, and the network capacity used to calculate a new window size. The new window size is applied and communicated to the sender node. In another embodiment, a background data transfer is controlled at a receiver node by measuring a quantity of data received from a sender node during a first control interval. The measured quantity is used to evaluate available network capacity, and the network capacity used to calculate a new receive window size and a second control interval duration. The new window size is applied for the second control interval, and communicated to the sender node.01-20-2011

20110214180Network Amplification Attack Mitigation - An improved network protocol for mitigating network amplification attacks is provided. The absolute network load that any transient distributed attack can cause is bounded based on a resource crediting scheme. The protocol accumulates “credit” upon reception and detection of candidate attack request packets, and draws against that credit when transmitting responsive packets. In some implementations, the time frame of such an attack is also bounded using time limits applied to a resource crediting scheme. Other resources may also be bounded by the resource crediting scheme, including without limitation CPU utilization, storage capacity, power, etc.09-01-2011

20090210932ASSOCIATING NETWORK DEVICES WITH USERS - Systems, devices, and methods for associating network devices with users are described, which can facilitate establishing a secure user to network device association. In various embodiments, the disclosed subject matter facilitates devices providing indication of location and device identity to a user and recognizing the user is in the proximity of the device. The disclosed subject matter provides efficient and secure device to user association and can facilitate performing customized actions based on the nature of the association.08-20-2009
20100232324Full-Duplex Wireless Communications - Full-duplex wireless communication is described. In an embodiment, a transceiver device having a transmitter circuit and a receiver circuit receives a data packet sent over a shared communication medium. In the embodiment, the transceiver reads the header of the data packet and starts transmitting an output signal on the same shared communication medium. Embodiments are described in which, whilst the transmission of the output signal is ongoing, the transceiver receives an impaired data signal which is made up of the payload of the data packet and interference from the output signal. In the embodiment, a cancellation signal is derived from the output signal, and this is combined with the impaired data signal to remove the interference and recover the payload of the data packet.09-16-2010
20110299408Dynamic Channel and Transmission Rate Selection - Dynamic channel and transmission rate selection is described. In an example, a communication resource for transmitting data to a receiver is selected from several channels, each having several associated rates. The selection comprises storing a weighting factor for each channel/rate combination, monitoring transmission performance on a selected channel and rate, and inferring performance for other rates on the selected channel from the monitored performance. Each weighting factor is then updated using the monitored and inferred performances, and used to select a channel/rate combination for subsequent transmission. In another example, a communication device comprises a transmitter, a processor, and a memory arranged to store a weighting factor associated with each receiver, channel and rate combination. The transmitter sends data to a receiver using one channel and rate, and the processor monitors the performance, updates the weighting factors accordingly, and selects a receiver, channel and rate combination for subsequent transmission.12-08-2011

20110313219DEOXYGENATION OF BIOMASS DERIVED OXYGENATES TO HYDROCARBONS VIA DIRECT METHANE INTERVENTION - The application describes a process where methane or any short chained hydrocarbon could be catalytically coupled with an oxygenate (preferably derived from thermal processing of biomass) to dehydrate and produce a deoxygenated hydrocarbon. The presence of oxygen in biomass derivatives adversely affects its ability to be further processed into hydrocarbon fuels because the resulting water poisons many catalysts (including alumina containing catalysts, zeolites, etc.) found in petrochemical refineries. While commonly used hydrodeoxygenation methods require expensive hydrogen to instigate deoxygenation, the present process uses short chained hydrocarbons (such as methane or natural gas) to instigate hydrodeoxygenation.12-22-2011

20100112169Continuous process for cooking bacon with improved recovery - An improved continuous process for cooking bacon includes the steps of continuously feeding bacon strips in three or more rows to an inlet of a spiral cooking oven, moving the bacon strips along a spiral path inside the spiral oven, applying a cooking fluid into the spiral oven and through the spiral path, and cooking the bacon strips in the spiral oven to a yield percentage having a mean bandwidth variation not greater than 4.5%. A conveyor belt having variable weaving includes belt openings that are initially larger through an inner side of the belt than through an outer side of the belt, when the belt is straight. When the belt collapses into the spiral configuration, the openings adjust so that the areal size of the openings is similar on both lateral sides of the belt, resulting in more even distribution of cooking fluid and more uniform cooking. By cooking the bacon more uniformly, the product yield can be increased significantly.05-06-2010
