METHOD OF REUSING SHIPPING AND PACKING MATERIALS - The inventions relate to systems and methods for reusing recyclable materials used in the manufacturing and transportation of goods, including containers used in the packaging and shipment of such goods. The disclosed systems and methods include the use of data devices to collect and report data associated with the recyclable materials. The data devices may collect information about recyclable materials and containers, including the amount of a deposit paid by a customer for a container, the receipt of the container at a service center and any amounts returned to the customer from a secure merchant account after an inspection of the condition of the container. The data device may also record the condition of the container, whether it is reused, refurbished and reused, or recycled, and how many cycles of use the container experiences. | 03-11-2010

Physics-Based, Bayesian Sequential Detection Method and System for Radioactive Contraband - A distributed sequential method and system for detecting and identifying radioactive contraband from highly uncertain (noisy) low-count, radionuclide measurements, i.e. an event mode sequence (EMS), using a statistical approach based on Bayesian inference and physics-model-based signal processing based on the representation of a radionuclide as a monoenergetic decomposition of monoenergetic sources. For a given photon event of the EMS, the appropriate monoenergy processing channel is determined using a confidence interval condition-based discriminator for the energy amplitude and interarrival time. If accepted the parameter values of the photon event are used to update the parameter values using an LKF for the energy amplitude and a bootstrap PF for the interarrival times. These parameter estimates are then used to update a measured probability density function estimate for a target radionuclide. A a sequential likelihood ratio test, which is based in part on a previous sequential likelihood ratio for a previous photon event, the updated measured PDF estimates, and the an a-priori PDF estimates based on expected amplitude level and interarrival time values of the target radionuclide, is then used to determine one of two threshold conditions signifying that the EMS is either identified as the target radionuclide or as not the target radionuclide, and if not, then repeating the process with for the next sequential photon event of the EMS until one of the two threshold conditions is satisfied. | 02-04-2010

PATIENT-INTERACTIVE HEALTHCARE MANAGEMENT - A patient-interactive health care management system provides means for healthcare services rendered by a physician to a patient to be confirmed by the patient immediately after the healthcare services are rendered. The patient is provided the ability to verify the accuracy of an invoice for the rendered services/goods and provide an assessment of the rendered services/goods. In an example embodiment, the patient provides this information via an information station located at the healthcare facility in which the healthcare services/goods are rendered. The information gathered from the patient is provided to the party responsible for paying for the rendered healthcare services/goods. In an example embodiment, the paying party compares the patient provided information with the invoice received from the healthcare provider to assess the accuracy of the invoice. A patient account is established containing, in part, the information gathered from the patient. | 11-03-2011

DETERMINING DRILLSTRING NEUTRAL POINT BASED ON HYDRAULIC FACTOR - A solution for determining a neutral point of a drillstring in drilling a borehole is disclosed. A method may comprise: receiving depth-time log data for drilling the borehole with the drillstring, the depth-time log data including data related to a torque and drag factor and data related to a hydraulic factor; and determining the neutral point of the drillstring at a time point during the drilling based on the torque and drag factor and the hydraulic factor. | 06-25-2009

System and Method for Oilfield Service Equipment Transportation and Placement - A system for oilfield service equipment transportation and placement comprises a street-legal truck having a tool skid handling system and a tool skid. The tool skid may be offloaded from, and loaded onto, the truck, by means of the tool skid handling system, while requiring only a single person to carry out the loading or offloading. Preferably, the tool skid holds all specialized service equipment for carrying out a particular job at a wellsite, for example running a string of casing or other threaded connection tubulars. The tool skid handling system has a hydraulically powered arm with a hook on the end, and enables one person (namely, the driver of the truck) to load and offload the fully loaded tool skid with no additional assistance. Exemplary methods for using the system are also disclosed. | 04-08-2010

Tubular running tool and method of using same - An automated tubular running tool for use in drilling systems and the like allows for the picking up, positioning, stabbing and threadedly connecting a tubular segment to a tubular string being held by the rig by a spider. The tool comprises a pivoting arm, which can pickup, position, stab and threadedly connect the tubular segment. The tool further features an integral elevator, which then lowers the piping string tubing string into the well bore. This tubular running tool allows for the connection of tubular segments to a tubular string without the need of personnel. | 10-09-2008

TURBOMACHINERY DEVICE FOR BOTH COMPRESSION AND EXPANSION - A turbomachinery device operable in either a compressor mode or a turbine mode. The device includes an impeller that rotates in the same direction in both modes, and the general flow direction remains the same in both modes. An inlet flow-guiding device may be included to direct fluid into the impeller. The impeller is coupled to a motor/generator, which operates as a motor to add power to the impeller in the compressor mode, and as a generator in the turbine mode to extract mechanical power from the impeller and convert it into electrical power. An outlet flow-guiding device may also be included. The inlet and outlet flow-guiding devices can be inlet and outlet guide vanes that are variable in setting angle or are extendable and retractable into and out of the flow path, or can be other types of flow-guiding devices. | 10-06-2011
