20090092824APPARATUS, METHODS, AND ARTICLES OF MANUFACTURE CORRESPONDING TO A SELF-COMPOSITE COMPRISED OF NANOCRYSTALLINE DIAMOND AND A NON-DIAMOND COMPONENT AND CORRESPONDING TO A COMPOSITE COMPRISED OF NANOCRYSTALLINE DIAMOND, METAL, AND OTHER NANOCARBONS THAT IS USEFUL FOR THERMOELECTRIC AND OTHER APPLICATIONS - One provides nanocrystalline diamond material that comprises a plurality of substantially ordered diamond crystallites that are sized no larger than about 10 nanometers. One then disposes a non-diamond component within the nanocrystalline diamond material which may comprise an electrical conductor that is formed at the grain boundaries that separate the diamond crystallites from one another. One may also instead react the aforementioned crystallites with a metallic component. The reaction process can comprise combining the crystallites with one or more metal salts in an aqueous solution and then heating that aqueous solution to remove the water. This heating can occur in a reducing atmosphere (comprising, for example, hydrogen and/or methane) to also reduce the salt to metal. Metal or metal carbide nanowires and/or quantum dots are produced as a result of the reaction with the ultrananocrystalline diamond. Such material exhibits thermoelectric and other useful properties.04-09-2009
20110005564Method and Apparatus Pertaining to Nanoensembles Having Integral Variable Potential Junctions - Carbon-containing sp3-bonded solid refractory nanocrystalline particles that are each sized no larger than about 100 nanometers have a metal of choice disposed thereabout. A variable potential junction is formed between the metallic coatings and the particles that enables carrier entropy to be efficiently transported from the variable potential junction to the coating.01-13-2011
20110147669Self-Composite Comprised of Nanocrystalline Diamond and a Non-Diamond Component Useful for Thermoelectric Applications - One provides nanocrystalline diamond material that comprises a plurality of substantially ordered diamond crystallites that are sized no larger than about 10 nanometers. One then disposes a non-diamond component within the nanocrystalline diamond material. By one approach this non-diamond component comprises an electrical conductor that is formed at the grain boundaries that separate the diamond crystallites from one another. The resultant nanowire is then able to exhibit a desired increase with respect to its ability to conduct electricity while also preserving the thermal conductivity behavior of the nanocrystalline diamond material.06-23-2011

20110045004METHOD FOR IN-VITRO DETECTING PATHOGENIC T HELPER CELLS AND PHARMACEUTICAL COMPOSITIONS FOR TREATING AUTOIMMUNE DISEASES - The invention relates to a method for in-vitro detecting pathogenic T helper cells by incubating a sample of a body fluid or tissue taken from a mammal with substances specifically interacting with at least one gene product encoded by selected genes, which are differentially expressed compared to normal T helper cells, determining specific incubation products, correlating an amount of signal or change in signal with a concentration of the gene product in the sample, and detecting cell pathogenicity by comparing the concentration with another gene product concentration in a sample of non-pathogenic and/or pathogenic cells. Another object if the invention concerns a pharmaceutical composition for prophylaxis and therapy of chronicinflammatory. The invention also relates to a method for screening substances with the property to reduce the pathogenicity of T helper cells along with the symptoms of chronic inflammatory diseases.02-24-2011

20110147629SOLENOID ARRANGEMENT AND VALVE ARRANGEMENT - A solenoid arrangement comprises a pole tube which is axially subdivided into a pole core section, a transition section, and a tube section. A magnetic flux between the pole core section and the tube section is interrupted by the transition section. An armature is movably guided in the pole tube and has, at its end facing the pole core section, a flange which axially projects from an end face. According to the invention, the pole core section has a stepped depression into which the armature can plunge and which, starting from the transition section, is subdivided into an annular collar, a shoulder, and a notch which is set back axially and radially. An axial dimension of the collar exceeds an axial dimension of the flange.06-23-2011
20110168932SOLENOID ARRANGEMENT AND VALVE ARRANGEMENT - The invention relates to a solenoid wherein a magnetic discontinuity is formed in the pole tube by means of reducing the effective material thickness, such as by reducing the thickness, particularly the wall thickness of the magnetically active material, the front face of the armature facing the polker segment and a floor in the interior of the pole tube at the polker segment each have a contour allowing mutual axial overlapping. This enables advantageous influencing of the force-stroke characteristic curve of the solenoid with low production effort.07-14-2011
