20090010251Simplifying DSL Deployment via Analog/DSL Combination Solution - A method using a combination analog/DSL modem for deploying DSL services is disclosed. A combination analog/DSL modem is utilized at the subscriber premises. A telephone line is tested using the analog portion of the modem. In combination with information provided by the subscriber and records, suitability of the service line for DSL services may be accurately determined. DSL service is then ordered by the subscriber. Preferably, DSL services are deployed on top of the existing analog voice service line allowing service turn-on within a short period of time. The subscriber can have the ability to access a network using the DSL portion of the combination modem. If during modem testing, it is determined that the telephone line would not support DSL service, the subscriber would be informed that DSL service is currently not available for them. However, the subscriber could continue to use the analog portion of the combination modem.01-08-2009
20090134977Method and apparatus for RFID device coexistance - In accordance with exemplary embodiments, a radio frequency identification (RFID) device might employ channel-in-use sensing and time multiplexing transmission to prevent radio systems of RFID devices in close proximity to one another from transmitting while another one of the RFID devices is transmitting so as to reduce, for example, radio interference at the transmitting RFID device. RFID transceivers not transmitting might employ a random back off procedure once a close proximity transmission is detected so that the RFID devices do not repetitively try to seize the channel at approximately the same time.05-28-2009
20090248295Terrain overlay for route planner - In described embodiments, closed-loop mapping employs terrain and topology information when generating a closed-loop route given input route characteristics. Terrain and topology information collectively identify, for example, whether the road is 1) flat or inclined; 2) paved, concrete, crushed stone, or dirt; 3) in open or shaded areas, and 4) within certain area types. The location of the start and end points (e.g., a geographic location or position), the length of the desired route, and route characteristics are received as input to generate the closed-loop route. Route characteristics might include, for example, i) particular inclines/declines to modify the cardiovascular exercise from traversing the output closed route, ii) preferred types of terrain the output closed route includes, such as pavement or dirt paths, and iii) particular zones or areas to be included or avoided in the desired route.10-01-2009
20110021174METHOD AND APPARATUS FOR AUTOMATICALLY DAMAGING CIRCUITRY OF A MOBILE DEVICE WHEN ONE OR MORE CONDITIONS ARE DETECTED - A mobile device is configured with electrical circuitry that causes the transmit channel electrical circuitry of the transmitter (Tx) of the mobile device to be electrically coupled to the receive channel electrical circuitry of the receiver (Rx) of the mobile device when one or more predetermined conditions occur. The electrical coupling of the transmit channel circuitry to the receive channel circuitry causes the Rx to be sufficiently damaged to render the mobile device nonoperational, thereby preventing further use of the mobile device. The one or more predetermined conditions correspond to conditions that indicate the mobile device has been lost or stolen and/or that an unauthorized user is attempting to use the mobile device in some manner.01-27-2011

20080212249Multi-Threshold Charging of a Rechargeable Battery - In a preferred embodiment, a battery charging system in the form of an integrated circuit (IC), incorporated in a consumer electronic device, has a charging controller, a charging current generator, a junction temperature sensor, and a device current monitor. The junction temperature sensor provides to the charging controller a measured junction temperature of the IC. The charging current generator utilizes fractional synthesis, which involves regulating the duty cycles of multiple current sources, to achieve increased current resolution. The charging controller regulates the charging current provided by the charging current generator based on the relation of the measured junction temperature to three or more threshold temperatures. The device current monitor provides to the charging controller information about the current utilization of the consumer electronic device, thus allowing the charging controller to determine the device non-charging current and give priority for available current to user applications running on the consumer electronic device.09-04-2008
20100156727Electronically Steerable Antenna - An electronically steerable antenna includes at least one driven element, at least one controllable counterpoise element, and a support structure on which the driven element and the controllable counterpoise element are disposed. The controllable counterpoise element has at least one geometric characteristic which can be varied. A radiating angle of the driven element is selectively controlled, at least in part, by modifying the geometric characteristic of the at least one controllable counterpoise element. The counterpoise element may include multiple conductive segments, at least a subset of which may be adapted to be individually electrically connected together so as to modify the radiating angle of the driven, element. 06-24-2010

20110034989RAPID-EXCHANGE BALLOON CATHETER SHAFT AND METHOD - A balloon catheter or stent delivery system for medical treatment of a patient has a proximal hub, a balloon, and an improved shaft design. The catheter shaft has a rapid-exchange configuration, and a tubular outer body that includes a hypotube extending from the catheter proximal end to a position at or near a proximal leg of the balloon. An inner tubular body defines a guidewire lumen extending from a distal guidewire port at the catheter distal end to a proximal port located at a position between the balloon and the hub. A distal leg of the balloon is directly or indirectly affixed to the inner body, and a proximal leg of the balloon is affixed to the distal end of the outer body. The hypotube has an aperture for accepting the inner body proximal end, and a circumferential cut pattern. The cut pattern adds flexibility, and may extend from the hypotube distal end to a position proximal of the proximal guidewire port. The cut pattern may have any desired shape, including a spiral, a helical undulating path, or an overlapping serpentine path with inflection points, for example. The hypotube has a fluid-tight covering such as a heat-shrink polymer, so the outer body supports pressure of an inflation medium. The proximal guidewire port may be positioned on or between the individual portions of the cut pattern, or at a position beyond the cut pattern.02-10-2011

20110135806MANUFACTURING METHODS FOR COVERING ENDOLUMINAL PROSTHESES - The disclosure relates to a method for coating a target. The method includes providing a target and an electrospinning apparatus. The target comprises a first surface and an opposing second surface. The electrospinning apparatus comprises a mandrel, a mask including an aperture, a reservoir loaded with a solution, and an orifice fluidly coupled to the reservoir. The mandrel is located adjacent the target second surface. The orifice is located at a distance from the target first surface. The mask is located intermediate the orifice and the target first surface. The solution is electrospun through the mask aperture onto the target first surface. In one example the target is an endoluminal prosthesis.06-09-2011

20110089876FAIL-SAFE CONTROLS FOR ELECTRIC TRACTION DRIVE SYSTEMS - A method is provided for operation of an internal permanent magnet motor having a rotor. The method includes determining whether a neutral point access signal is received from the rotor and operating the internal permanent magnet motor using sensorless signals corresponding to a rotor position and a rotor speed of the rotor derived by a first sensorless signal estimation method when the neutral point access signal is received from the rotor, wherein the first sensorless signal estimation method utilizes the neutral point access signal to generate the rotor position and the rotor speed. The method further includes operating the internal permanent magnet motor using sensorless signals corresponding to a rotor position and a rotor speed of the rotor derived by a second sensorless signal estimation method when the neutral point access signal is not received from the rotor, wherein the second sensorless signal estimation method does not utilize the neutral point access signal to generate the rotor position and the rotor speed.04-21-2011
