20110026760METHOD FOR CHARACTERIZING POWDER IN A ROTATING CYLINDRICAL CONTAINER BY IMAGE ANALYSIS - A method is provided for characterizing powders and powder behavior in a rotating cylindrical container by image analysis techniques. Powder is placed in a generally cylindrical container with transparent ends. The container is then placed in front of an imaging device and illuminated with a light source so the device can capture images of the powder over time. The container is then rotated at various speeds and the camera captures images of the powder at fixed time intervals. Image analysis algorithms are then used to isolate the powder information in the images and this data is used to calculate several parameters of the powder including the potential energy of the powder, the curvature of the powder, and volume of the powder. From these calculations, the average potential energy level of the powder, the potential energy level at which the powder yields or avalanches, the change in the potential energy before and after an avalanche, the powder surface curvature, and powder volume can be determined as a function of container rotation speed.02-03-2011

20090029651Method and Procedures for Automatic Calibration of a Wireless Communications System Simulation - Performance optimization of mobile wireless communication networks is complex and typically requires extensive offline modeling and simulation prior to deploying changes that may have unforeseen adverse effects on the live customer network. It is necessary to calibrate the simulation model against the actual network at a level of fidelity such that the engineer is confident that the simulation's response to network changes accurately reflects the results that would be experienced if those changes were deployed in an actual live network. This process is typically quite time consuming and requires significant case-by-case insight into the workings of the actual network as well as the simulation model. We have invented a method of automatic calibration in which the simulation adapts itself to more closely resemble the actual network. For a given network architecture and a probabilistic customer usage profile a simulation provides an estimate of key performance metrics. These simulated metrics are compared against actual measurements from the network. To the extent that they do not match within a prescribed tolerance, an iterative adaptive calibration procedure is used to perturb slightly the probabilistic model of network usage.01-29-2009

20080296009Computer Systems and Related Methods for Cooling Such Systems - Methods for cooling computer systems are provided, in which the computer system has a processor and a fan. An exemplary method comprises: determining a temperature threshold for operating the fan at greater than low speed; determining a temperature of the computer system; and throttling the processor if the temperature corresponds to the temperature threshold for operating the fan at greater than low speed. Systems also are provided.12-04-2008
20100077199Systems And Methods Of Secure BIOS Update - Systems and methods of securely updating BIOS are disclosed. One such system comprises a reprogrammable memory, a first and a second register, and comparison logic. The reprogrammable memory comprises a first portion and a protect input. The protect input is configured to disallow writes to at least the first portion when the memory protect input is at a first levels, and to allow writes to at least the first portion when the protect input is at a second level. The comparison logic is configured to drive a comparison output to a third level responsive to the first and second registers having equal values, and to drive the comparison output to a fourth level responsive to the first and second registers having different values. The comparison output is electrically coupled to the memory protect input.03-25-2010
20100212341METHODS AND SYSTEMS FOR CONTROLLING A COOLING SYSTEM USING ONE DIGITAL SIGNAL - Systems and methods that receive a digital signal outputted from a single line of a device are disclosed. Embodiments of the systems and methods calculate the temperature of the device based on the digital signal. Embodiments of the systems and methods generate a signal to a cooling system to cool the device when the calculated temperature of the device is higher than a predetermined temperature.08-26-2010
