20110264922DIGITAL VIDEO GUARD - This invention relates to the veracity of information that is displayed to a user of a computer and can also relate to the veracity of information provided to a computer by human input devices such as pointing devices and keyboards. A digital video guard device is a peripheral that is retrofitted to commodity computer device. The digital video guard device provides trust in specific information presented on a digital display. The digital video guard device resides in-line with a digital display and enables secure end-to-end interactions between a user and a displayed (usually remote) application. In-band signalling within the digital video stream is used to carry encrypted information from a remote source, over untrusted network infrastructure through the digital video guard device to a user for viewing. The creation of encrypted digital video content can be achieved by either local or remote applications, and is effected by manipulating what is to be rendered on a computer's display, i.e. encrypting data that will at some time form part of a digital display stream and be output from an information device to a digital display. The digital video guard device can decrypt and verify the integrity of the digital video content as it is sent to a digital display. The integrity of the displayed information is indicated by a trusted LED on the digital video guard device hardware. Part or the entire video signal may be designated as trusted, depending on what data within the video signal has been encrypted, signed, or otherwise labelled as being trustworthy.10-27-2011

20080251116Artificial Amorphous Semiconductors and Applications to Solar Cells - An artificial amorphous semiconductor material, and a junction made from the material, has a plurality of crystalline semiconductor material quantum dots substantially uniformly distributed and regularly spaced in three dimensions through a matrix of dielectric material or thin layers of dielectric materials. The material is formed by first forming a plurality of layers of dielectric material comprising a compound of a semiconducting material, and forming alternating layers as layers of stoichiometric dielectric material and layers of semiconductor rich dielectric material respectively. The material is then heated causing quantum dots to form in the semiconductor rich layers of dielectric material in a uniform and regularly spaced distribution in three dimensions through the dielectric material. The bandgap and mobility of the material are determined by selecting the material parameters including the size of the quantum dots, the composition of the matrix and the semiconductor material of the quantum dots to achieve the desired parameters.10-16-2008

20110161868Management of windowing operating system utilizing monitored user behavior and preferences - An approach is provided that receives a user action directed at a first windowed application that is executing in a windowing operating system. The first windowed application is displayed on a display using a first set of display attributes. In response to receiving the user action, user preferences are retrieved that correspond to the first windowed application. The user preferences reference a second windowed application that runs in the windowed operating system. The second windowed application is displayed on the display using a second set of display attributes. One or more actions corresponding to the second windowed application are identified based on the retrieved user preferences. These identified actions are executed on the second windowed application and result in a change to the second set of display attributes which causes in a change in an appearance of the second windowed application.06-30-2011

20100236556VENTILATOR PATIENT SYNCHRONIZATION - A method and apparatus that provides an expert system for determining respiratory phase during ventilatory support of a subject. Discrete phase states are partitioned and prior probability functions and observed probability functions for each state are defined. The probability functions are based upon relative duration of each state as well as the flow characteristics of each state. These functions are combined to determine phase probabilities for each state using Bayes' theorem. The calculated probabilities for the states may then be compared to determine which state the subject is experiencing. A ventilator may then conform respiratory support in accordance with the most probable phase. To provide a learning feature, the probability functions may be adjusted during use to provide a more subject specific response that accounts for changing respiratory characteristics.09-23-2010
