20090198526PAYMENT OF BENEFITS FOR SURVIVORS OF CERTAIN MEDICAL CONDITIONS - A method for payment of a benefit to a survivor of a subsequent medical condition. Initial and subsequent information about a person is received, the information concerning at least one specified medical condition. The initial information is inspected to determine the state of health of the person, the state of health not being acceptable if the specified medical condition is present. If the state of health of the person is acceptable then the person is approved for payment of a specified benefit if the specified medical condition is later present. Subsequent information about the person is inspected to determine the state of health of the person, the state of health being changed if the predetermined medical condition is later present. The specified benefit is then paid if the state of health of the person has changed.08-06-2009

20110146526System and method for railroad track tie plate collection from a rail bed - A machine for collecting tie plates strewn along a rail bed includes a frame adapted for travel along a railroad in a forward direction. A pickup drum having magnetic properties is rotatably supported by the frame and extends over a bed portion of the railroad. A top drum is mounted at a location that is higher and forward of the pickup drum and rotates parallel to the pickup drum. An endless conveyor circulates around the pickup and top drums, and a separation drum is disposed between the pickup drum and the top drum along an ascending portion of the endless conveyor. The separation drum includes a magnetized rim that can lift ferrous objects but not tie plates from the endless conveyor.06-23-2011
20110146527System and method for railroad track tie plate orientation - A machine for automatically orienting railroad tie plates includes a sensing region having at least one optical sensor adapted to sense a physical feature of a tie plate. An electronic controller is connected to the optical sensor and is disposed to receive a sensor signal indicative of the physical feature of the tie plate when the tie plate is in the sensing region. The electronic controller further determines an orientation of the tie plate based on the sensor signal, compares it to one or more predetermined or possible orientations, and provides a command to at least one actuator adapted to perform at least one tie plate orientation operation to change the orientation of the tie plate based on the comparison of the orientation of the plate with the predetermined orientation.06-23-2011

20080301548METHOD AND SYSTEM FOR LAYING OUT PAGINATED CONTENT FOR VIEWING - CONTINUATION - A method and system in a document viewing control for laying out an invisible page grid based on various criteria, including whether the pages of a document are fixed, contain reflowable content, whether the fixed pages are all the same size, and where the user has actively focused a page when a new layout needs to be generated, which may be anytime a user changes the number of pages to display. Upon such a change, a mechanism determines page sizes based on whether the focused page has flow or fixed content. A layout mechanism computes the grid based on the number of pages (columns) to display across. For documents with mixed-sized and/or mixed flow and fixed pages, rows of the grid are determined from the active page to the start of the document, and from the active page's row to the end of the document. The grid provides consistent viewing results.12-04-2008

20090120284REDUCING POLLUTANT DISCHARGE FROM GASOLINE STORAGE TANKS - An active adsorbent pollutant reducing system includes a canister containing activated carbon, a pump and a series of valves connected to the canister and the pump. The valves and pump of the system are controlled so that vapor/air in the ullage of a gasoline storage tank is pumped to the canister/adsorbent material when tank pressure reaches a first level with vapor being adsorbed and air being discharged to atmosphere. When a second tank pressure level, lower than the first tank pressure level, is achieved, the valves are controlled to reconfigure the pump and canister so that continued pump operation pulls a vacuum on the canister resulting in adsorbed gasoline vapor being purged from the adsorbent material and returned to the storage tank. Tank pressure, HC content in the vapor flow and canister weight can be used for control of the system.05-14-2009

20100300648METHOD AND APPARATUS FOR ATTACHMENT AND REMOVAL OF FANS WHILE IN OPERATION AND WITHOUT THE NEED FOR TOOLS - Disclosed is an air containment cooling system for containing air between two rows of equipment racks. The air containment cooling system comprises a canopy assembly configured to enclose a hot aisle defined by two rows of equipment racks and a cooling system embedded within the canopy assembly, the cooling system being configured to cool air disposed within the hot aisle, the cooling system including a heat exchanger, a mounting plate coupled to the canopy assembly, and a fan assembly configured to move air to the heat exchanger, the fan assembly being releasably mounted on the mounting plate. The fan assembly may include a fan unit having a fan and a motor and a mounting ring configured to mount the fan unit thereon. The mounting ring may have at least one mounting post configured to pass through a key slot formed in the mounting plate.12-02-2010
20100315775METHOD AND APPARATUS FOR INSTALLATION AND REMOVAL OF OVERHEAD COOLING EQUIPMENT - Disclosed is a data center comprising a first row of equipment racks, a second row of equipment racks, a hot aisle defined by a space between the first row of equipment racks and the second row of equipment racks, and a track system above the hot aisle of the data center upon which cooling units may be mounted. Cooling units may be moved along the track system. The track system may include portions of track secured to the top sides of one or more cooling units. Also disclosed is a method for installing a cooling unit above a hot aisle of a data center including a plurality of equipment racks.12-16-2010

20090213995Dimensional reference for tomography - A dimensional reference system for tomography, including X-ray computed tomography and MRI tomography. The system includes a dimensional reference apparatus that comprises plurality of spheres composed of a material having an X-ray absorption property between approximately +500 Hounsfield units and +1200 Hounsfield units. The spheres are spaced apart at a known distance by support structure/spacer unit that has an X-ray absorption property between approximately −100 Hounsfield units and +400 Hounsfield units. After an image that incorporates the dimensional reference apparatus and a measurement subject has been reconstructed, the dimensional reference apparatus provides for measurement of the resultant image voxels in three dimensions. Because solid structural elements such as plastic or glass spheres may not be visible in an MRI, an MRI implementation of the apparatus may be disposed in a fluid-tight enclosure along with water, a contrast-enhancing agent and ethanol.08-27-2009
