20100219552Method for producing limestone-simulating concrete - A new process for creating a decorative surface on a cast concrete tile. A mold is prepared by coating with mold release. An aggregate of water, coloring dye, sand, Portland cement, and preferably filler material such as pea gravel is pre-mixed. Baking soda is mixed with a significant volume of water to create a high-viscosity paste. The paste preferably has a high solid to liquid ratio so that it can be crumbled into baking soda clumps of various sizes. The dampened baking soda clumps are sprinkled randomly onto the bottom surface of the mold (which will bear against what becomes the top surface of the cast tile). The pre-mixed aggregate is then added to the mold. Once the aggregate is cured, the cast concrete tile is removed. The baking soda clumps create complex voids in the tile's upper surface, producing a surface texture similar to limestone.09-02-2010

The food or food ingredients may be used as such, or as coatings or fillings for conventional food products. The fat or oil based food ingredient of the invention has increased flavor intensity if compared to similar food ingredients in which the flavor is not encapsulated. The flavors are immediately released upon consumption of the food or food ingredient. Owing to the particular encapsulation of flavors, the food ingredient is largely resistant to flavor evaporation due to elevated temperatures during food manufacturing processes.08-20-2009

20110105293Negative Dielectric Constant Material Based on Ion Conducting Materials - Metamaterials or artificial negative index materials (NIMs) have generated great attention due to their unique and exotic electromagnetic properties. One exemplary negative dielectric constant material, which is an essential key for creating the NIMs, was developed by doping ions into a polymer, a protonated poly(benzimidazole) (PBI). The doped PBI showed a negative dielectric constant at megahertz (MHz) frequencies due to its reduced plasma frequency and an induction effect. The magnitude of the negative dielectric constant and the resonance frequency were tunable by doping concentration. The highly doped FBI showed larger absolute magnitude of negative dielectric constant at just above its resonance frequency than the less doped PBI.05-05-2011

20090065660Quick Release Screed Bar Holder - A novel adjustable screed bar holder used to support screed bars used in concrete finish work. The holder moves along a supporting device such as a stake, pin, or post. A lever on the holder is coupled to a cam wheel such that movement of the lever will disengage the cam wheel from the stake. When the cam wheel is in the disengaged position the holder is free to move along the stake until the lever is released and the cam wheel secures against the stake. Typically the holder will be used to hold a piece of lumber, pipe, rebar, or tubing parallel to the forms used in concrete placement. A screed may then be run over the concrete while it rides on the screed bar supported by the adjustable holder.03-12-2009

20100048374System and Method for Fabricating Ceramic Substrates - This invention provides a system and method for establishing proper quantities of components in the initial mixture to be used in the fabrication of a porous ceramic substrate. The components typically consist of a solvent, a bulk fiber such as mullite, an organic binder for use in extrusion of the green substrate, a glass/clay bonding phase that bonds the fibers upon high-temperature curing and a pore former that defines gaps between the particles and is vaporized out of the substrate during curing. By identifying the controllable factors related to each of the components, and adjusting the factors to vary the resulting strength and porosity of the cured substrate, an optimized strength and porosity performance can be achieved. The controlling factors for each component include its relative weight percent in the mixture. The fiber component is also controlled via fiber diameter, diameter uniformity, and fiber length-to-diameter aspect ratio. Likewise, pore former is also controlled by particle size and shape and particle density. The bonding phase may also be controlled based upon its contribution to the viscosity at sintering temperature.02-25-2010
