20080272062BROAD SPECTRUM ANTIMICROBIAL PURIFICATION DEVICES AND METHODS FOR PURIFYING FLUIDS - Devices and methods for inactivating microbiological contaminants in a fluid are provided for use in water, air, and other fluid treatment applications. The device includes (i) a housing having at least one fluid inlet and at least one fluid outlet; and (ii) an antimicrobial material secured in the housing between said at least one fluid inlet and said at least one fluid outlet. In one embodiment, the antimicrobial material is a biguanide dihydrate compound, such as a chlorhexidine dihydrate, which exhibits broad spectrum antimicrobial activity.11-06-2008
20080306301BROAD SPECTRUM ANTIMICROBIAL PURIFICATION MATERIALS AND METHODS FOR PURIFYING FLUIDS - An antimicrobial composition for use in water, air, and other fluid treatment applications is provided. The composition includes a biguanide dihydrate compound, such as a chlorhexidine dihydrate, which exhibits broad spectrum antimicrobial activity.12-11-2008
20090191250Antimicrobial Composite Material and Method for Fluid Treatment - Composite materials with broad spectrum antimicrobial properties and methods and devices for fluid treatment utilizing said materials are provided. The antimicrobial composite materials may include combinations of activated carbon and a biguanide hydrate. A particular composition includes a mixture of carbon particles and particles of chlorhexidine hydrate, which is useful in fixed particle bed water treatment devices and methods.07-30-2009
20100125105ANTIMICROBIAL DEVICE AND MATERIALS FOR FLUID TREATMENT - Compositions comprising miscible blends of antimicrobial bisguanide compounds with certain thermoplastic polymers are provided. These antimicrobial polymeric materials may be further processed into particulate or fiber form for use in fluid treatment devices and processes. The antimicrobial bisguanide compound, such as chlorhexidine, is distributed at the molecular level within at least one thermoplastic polymer, such as a polyolefin, in which the antimicrobial bisguanide compound is soluble to form a miscible blend, which may be from about 1% to about 25% by weight antimicrobial bisguanide compound. The antimicrobial polymeric materials may be secured in a device for antimicrobial treatment of a fluid. The devices may comprise a housing having at least one inlet orifice and at least one outlet orifice, the antimicrobial polymeric material being secured within the house and configured to contact a fluid flowing through the housing between the inlet orifice and the outlet orifice.05-20-2010
20110086078FIBROUS ANTIMICROBIAL MATERIALS, STRUCTURES, AND BARRIER APPLICATIONS - Fibrous antimicrobial materials for use in structures and barrier applications, such as face masks and wound dressings, have been developed from antimicrobial polymeric materials. The fibrous antimicrobial materials also are particularly suitable for use in air and water filtration. The antimicrobial polymeric materials are prepared from solid solutions of antimicrobial bisguanide compounds blended with certain thermoplastic polymers. The antimicrobial polymeric materials may be extruded into fibers or used in the particulate form for preparation of the nonwoven antimicrobial materials. The antimicrobial bisguanide compound, such as chlorhexidine, are distributed at the molecular level within at least one thermoplastic polymer, such as a polyolefin in which the antimicrobial bisguanide compound is soluble, to form a miscible blend. Methods for their formation and use also are provided.04-14-2011

20100159475Methods For Determination of Calcineurin Activity and Uses in Predicting Therapeutic Outcomes - The methods of the disclosure provide fluorescence-based assays for calcineurin activity, especially in isolated T cells. The methods include the stimulation of the T cells with agents that specifically target the TCR with or without influencing co-stimulatory pathways. One TCR agonist is monoclonal antibodies specific for CD3, which more precisely distinguish the inducible activity of calcineurin than does an alternative method targeting the T cell receptor (CD3) combined with CD28 costimulation. This method more accurately distinguishes between the measured level of calcineurin activity of T cells from immunosuppressed transplant recipients and normal individuals, and thus has improved diagnostic accuracy with respect to the response of an individual to immunosuppressant therapy following an organ transplant.06-24-2010

20080200888Vaginal Discharge Collection Device - A vaginal discharge collection device is formed of an elastomeric rim and a flexible film reservoir lined with a non-toxic absorptive material. The rim may have a generally rectangular cross section and forms a collection space for collecting vaginal discharge. The rim is sufficiently resilient to provide an outward resilient force suitable to maintain the device in position within a user's vaginal canal during use. The rim and the reservoir are arranged such that compressing diametrically opposed portions to facilitate insertion of the device. The reservoir may be collapsible so as to be substantially enclosed within the rim when the device is being used. The device is constructed to be easy to use, affordable, internally comfortable, and most of all efficient.08-21-2008
