20110061673ADJUSTABLE-BARREL CURLING IRON - An adjustable barrel, a barrel-adjustment assembly, and an adjustable distal tip assembly. The barrel is radially adjustable between an expanded position and a contracted position having different diameters. The barrel-adjustment assembly includes a barrel cam, a gear-set, and a rotary adjustment ring. The barrel cam rotates to unwrap and wrap the barrel thereabout between the expanded and contracted positions. The gear-set rotationally drives the barrel cam. The adjustment ring can be longitudinally translated from a disengaged position to an engaged position. In the disengaged position the gear-set is disengaged (but an anti-rotation assembly is engaged) and in the engaged position the gear-set is engaged (and the anti-rotation assembly is disengaged). Once in the disengaged position, the adjustment ring can be rotated, which causes the engaged gear-set to rotate the barrel cam, which in turn wraps and unwraps the barrel about the cam into increased or decreased diameters.03-17-2011
20110203606ADJUSTABLE-BARREL CURLING IRON - A radially adjustable barrel, a barrel-adjustment assembly, a radially adjustable heater assembly, and a radially adjustable distal-tip assembly. The barrel is radially adjustable between expanded and contracted positions having different diameters. The barrel-adjustment assembly includes a rotary ring defining a spiral cam guide and includes a cam follower attached to the barrel. The heater assembly includes a post, at least one heater, and at least one spring mounting the heater to the post and biasing the heater radially outward. In use, rotating the ring rotates the spiral cam guide, which displaces the cam follower radially inward or outward, which in turn displaces the outer end of the barrel radially inward or outward to decrease or increase the diameter of the barrel. As the diameter of the barrel is adjusted, the heaters remain in contact with the barrel due to the outwardly biasing influence of the spring.08-25-2011

20100002717Partitioned Medium Access Control Implementation - A novel implementation of a partitioned Medium Access Control (MAC) is disclosed. The illustrative embodiment employs a shared bus that typically is already present in a wireless terminal for communication between an Upper MAC and a Lower MAC. The partitioned MAC implementation therefore does not require any additional communication means between the Upper MAC and Lower MAC, resulting in a lower-cost system. In addition, the Upper MAC and Lower MAC pass native data structures by reference over the shared bus, thereby eliminating the need for drivers to coordinate communication via interrupts, handshaking, etc. The partitioned MAC implementation results in a cost-effective distributed architecture in which the Upper MAC resides in the terminal's host processor and the Lower MAC resides in the terminal's wireless station.01-07-2010
20100118853Advance Notification of Transmit Opportunities on a Shared-Communications Channel - A technique is disclosed that enables both an IEEE 802.11 transceiver and a Bluetooth transceiver to be employed in a single wireless telecommunication station (e.g., a device supporting a wireless telephone, personal digital assistant, etc.) without interfering on each other. In particular, the illustrative embodiment enables standard “off-the-shelf” IEEE 802.11 and Bluetooth transceivers to work in a coordinated fashion in a single telecommunications terminal. In the illustrative embodiment, an IEEE 802.11 transceiver that uses a shared-communications channel notifies a Bluetooth transceiver that a transmit opportunity exists and that the Bluetooth transceiver has permission to use the shared-communications channel. The technique disclosed is also applicable to communications protocols other than IEEE 802.11 and Bluetooth.05-13-2010

20100262452TRACKING AND FILLING STAFFING NEEDS - Staffing needs may be processed automatically by a staffing fulfillment system that determines the requirements of a staffing position, identifies personnel qualified to fill the position and notifies the identified personnel of the staffing need. A database may store personnel profiles detailing skills, qualifications and other credentials of the individual such that the fulfillment system may automatically identify individuals that are qualified to fill a need. A response from personnel may be evaluated by the system to determine whether the individual is available and willing to fill the need. The system may then fill the need if the response is positive and notify an employer that the position or need has been filled.10-14-2010
