20120025136PHOTO-SWITCHABLE MEMBRANE AND METHOD - Switchable gas permeation membranes in which a photo-switchable low-molecular-weight liquid crystalline (LC) material acts as the active element, and a method of making such membranes. Different LC eutectic mixtures were doped with mesogenic azo dyes and infused into track-etched porous membranes with regular cylindrical pores. Photo-induced isothermal phase changes in the imbibed mesogenic material afforded large, reversible changes in the permeability of the photo-switchable membrane to nitrogen. For example, membranes imbibed with a photo-switchable cyanobiphenyl LC material demonstrated low permeability in the nematic state, while the photo-generated isotropic state demonstrated a 16×-greater sorption coefficient. Both states obey a high linear sorption behavior in accordance with Henry's Law. In contrast, membranes imbibed with a photo-switchable phenyl benzoate LC material showed the opposite permeability behavior to the biphenyl-imbibed membrane, along with nonlinear sorption behavior.02-02-2012

20080249998TECHNIQUES FOR PROCESSING DATA FROM A MULTILINGUAL DATABASE - A method, system and article of manufacture for providing natural language support for users running queries against a multilingual database. One embodiment comprises identifying one or more physical values defined by physical data in the multilingual database for a query result associated with an executed query. At least one translation function configured to transform at least a portion of the identified physical values defined in one or more different natural languages into alternative values defined in a selected language is executed. From each executed translation function, a data structure mapping at least a portion of the identified physical values to translated values defined in the selected language is identified and the translated values defining the alternative values defined in the selected language are retrieved from each identified data structure. The query result associated with the executed query including the alternative values defined in the selected language is output.10-09-2008

20080319968PROCESSING QUERY CONDITIONS HAVING FILTERED FIELDS WITHIN A DATA ABSTRACTION ENVIRONMENT - Embodiments of the invention provide techniques for composing and executing queries using filtered fields. In one embodiment, a query may be composed with compatible fields, meaning filtered fields that store related data of a particular data type. Such compatible fields may be combined into a single query condition, thus simplifying the composition and execution of the query. In one embodiment, fields may be identified as compatible based on metadata included in a database abstraction model.12-25-2008

20090077012DISPLAYING RELEVANT ABSTRACT DATABASE ELEMENTS - Embodiments of the invention enable users of an abstract database to use logical fields that are relevant to a given model entity. In one embodiment, a user may be presented with a query interface that includes relevant fields, and which may be used to compose abstract queries. In another embodiment, the query interface may include an initial query result, and may include relevant fields for model entities included in the initial query result. The query interface may be configured to enable a user to perform subsequent query operations using the included relevant fields.03-19-2009
20100030548METHOD FOR DISPLAYING SOFTWARE APPLICATIONS IN A SECONDARY LANGUAGE WHILE INTERACTING AND VIEWING THE DEFAULT LANGUAGE VERSION - A method in one embodiment includes selecting an application under test; selecting one or more secondary human languages; starting a single instance of the application under test; receiving input via a first window displaying data from the application in a primary human language, the input invoking steps in a testing sequence; and evaluating a response of the application to the input received via the first window. A response of the application is output to each step in the testing sequence in one or more secondary windows to the one or more selected secondary human languages by: looking up text used in the step from the first window using the default language resource bundle for the application under test; finding the resource bundle “keys” associated with the default language text used in the step; using the keys to look up translated text used in the step within the secondary language resource bundles for the application under test; and running the automated step in the one or more secondary windows by substituting the secondary language texts to identify objects on the secondary screens using the test automation software.02-04-2010

20080243086BLOOD EXPOSURE PREVENTION IN VASCULAR ACCESS DEVICES - An apparatus for preventing blood exposure or contamination upon withdrawal of a hypodermic needle is provided. The apparatus may include a needle having a tip and a shield configured to at least partially entrap the needle tip upon withdrawal of the needle. The apparatus may further include a blood stabilizing material disposed such that upon withdrawal of the needle the blood stabilizing material is disposed in operative association with the needle tip such that blood carried by the needle is prevented from escaping the apparatus. In some exemplary implementations, the blood stabilizing material may be disposed on one or more surfaces of the shield. The shield of the hypodermic needle may include protective device and/or a housing for shielding the needle tip upon withdrawal. The housing may be adapted to at least partially cover the needle tip upon withdrawal of the needle. In some implementations, the housing may be adapted to allow the protective device to shield the needle before the needle is completely withdrawn.10-02-2008
20080243092BLOOD EXPOSURE PREVENTION IN VASCULAR ACCESS DEVICES - An extravascular system includes a catheter assembly, a needle assembly, and a hemostatic adapter. The catheter assembly defines a lumen extending from an opening at a distal end thereof to a catheter hub at a proximal end thereof. The needle assembly includes a needle hub disposed at a proximal end of a needle disposed within the lumen defined by the catheter assembly. The needle has a needle tip extending from the opening of the catheter assembly. The hemostatic adapter defines a passage and is adapted to be operatively associated with the needle assembly and the catheter assembly. The hemostatic adapter further includes at least one liquid-reactive material adapted to at least substantially seal the passage upon contact with one or more liquids. The liquid-reactive material is selected and configured to morph upon contact with liquids to provide a mechanical barrier to prevent blood flow. A fluid may be injected into the lumen and/or passage by way of an optional port to provide a fluidic barrier in addition to the mechanical barrier.10-02-2008
20090182280REDUCING WITHDRAWAL FORCE IN A SAFETY IV CATHETER - An extravascular system for accessing the vasculature of a patient may include a catheter adapter, a needle, and/or a needle tip shield assembly.
