20090013171COMPUTER DOCKING SYSTEM USING HARDWARE ABSTRACTION - One embodiment uses a virtual machine layer between software and hardware on both a portable computing device and on a docking station used by the portable computing device. A first virtual machine layer on the portable device is used to save the state of the portable device upon intermediate shutdown. Upon docking the portable device with the docking station, a second virtual machine layer on the docking station is loaded with the state of the first virtual machine. The second virtual machine layer is aware of the resources in the docking station and is programmed to utilize the docking station resources (and the portable computing device resources, as desired) to restore and continue the state while allowing the operating system, application programs and other software and hardware to utilize the resources of the docking station.01-08-2009
20090303072MULTI-USE LIGHT INDICATORS - An approach involving light use for multiple purposes in a portable computing device is disclosed. In one embodiment, a method can include: programming a visual state information indicator in a portable computing device; mapping the visual state information indicator to a light source and a parameter of a device module; receiving a monitoring signal from the device module, where the monitoring signal conveys a state of the parameter in real-time; and adjusting the light source in response to a comparison of the monitoring signal against the programmed visual state information indicator.12-10-2009
20090303073USER CONFIGURATION FOR MULTI-USE LIGHT INDICATORS - An approach involving light use for multiple purposes in a portable computing device is disclosed. In one embodiment, a method can include: accessing a user interface in a portable computing device; programming a visual state information indicator via the user interface; programming a monitoring signal that conveys a real-time state of a parameter associated with a device module; and linking the visual state information indicator to a light source and the parameter via the user interface, where the visual state information indicator is adjusted using the light source in response to a comparison of the monitoring signal against the programmed visual state information indicator.12-10-2009

20090174370POWER SOURCE SENSING AND BATTERY CHARGING - A battery type detection approach is disclosed. In one embodiment, a method of detecting a battery type can include: receiving a signal from a battery module in a portable computing device; determining if the signal is in a first state for at least a first predetermined time before transitioning to a second state; determining if the signal transitions from the second state to the first state after a second predetermined time, and identifying the battery type in response thereto; and asserting an indication of the battery type when a third predetermined time period after the transition from the second state to the first state has occurred.07-09-2009

20110168898Systems and Methods for Emitting Radiant Energy - Field balancing may be performed with an irradiation system including a plurality of adjustable radiant-energy emitters. The irradiation system powers the radiant-energy emitters from a power source and radiant energy is emitted from the radiant-energy emitters, where an amount of radiant energy emitted from each emitter is capable of being varied based on power received from the power source. A plurality of radiant-energy sensors detects an amount of radiant energy which includes radiant energy created directly by at least one of the radiant-energy emitters. The amount of radiant energy detected at least two of the radiant-energy sensors is compared, and at least one of the radiant-energy emitters is adjusted by varying the power received from the power source so that the amount of radiant energy detected at each of the radiant-energy sensors tends towards becoming approximately equal. The emitting of radiant energy from each radiant-energy emitter is terminated when a total amount of radiant energy emitted from the plurality of adjustable radiant-energy emitters exceeds a predetermined threshold value, where the threshold value is sufficient to allow the total amount of radiant energy emitted from the plurality of adjustable radiant-energy emitters to sanitize a particular area in which the emitters are located.07-14-2011
20110280664Methods and apparatus for installing conduit underground - Apparatus and methods for forming an underground passageway and simultaneously laying therein a conduit or other elongate components comprises a rotary drill member coupled to a rotary and axially movable drill stem. The coupling is one which virtually automatically enables the drill stem to be coupled to and uncoupled from the drill member and comprises as one embodiment interlocking driving lugs carried by the drill stem and the drill member. The driving lugs are sandwiched between telescoped portions of the drill member and the drill stem and thereby are reinforced by such portions of the drill stem and the drill member in such manner as to preclude movement of the driving lugs in both radially inward and radially outward directions. Other couplings can be used.11-17-2011

20110037584Securing electrically-operated devices in a moving vehicle - A shut off safety device and method for reducing accidental activation of electrically controlled devices in a vehicle such as awnings, electrically controlled jacks, electrically controlled brakes in a towed RV is described and claimed. Instead of the electrically controlled device being deactivated based on the memory of a human to do a safety shut off device comprising a controller that is automatically activated in response to an act occurring within that or a second vehicle associated with said first vehicle, to provide a shutdown signal, a RF receiver responsive to the activation of the controller to provide a second signal, and an electrical means associated with said electrically activated and operated device said electrical means being responsive to said second signal to shut down and de-energize said device until reactivated by an operator of said vehicle.02-17-2011
