20090204059METHOD AND APPARATUS FOR SKIN ABSORPTION ENHANCEMENT AND TRANSDERMAL DRUG DELIVERY - A system for enhancing absorption of a substance to be provided on a region of a patient's skin, includes a probe configured to provide the substance to the region of the patient's skin, the probe including a flexible tape with a plurality of cavities, and with an electrically conductive element, such as a conductive wire, provided at one end of each of the cavities. A substance holding material, such as gauze stripes, temporarily holds the substance to be provided on the region of the patient's skin, the substance holding material being provided in each of the cavities. A pulse generator generates a sequence of bursts of electrical pulses to the electrically conductive elements provided within the cavities, so as to provide the bursts of electrical pulses to the region of the patient's skin.08-13-2009
20090299266METHOD AND APPARATUS FOR SKIN ABSORPTION ENHANCEMENT AND TRANSDERMAL DRUG DELIVERY - A disposable head for attachment to a probe provides a substance to a patient's skin during a skin treatment procedure. The disposable head includes an attachment device for attaching the disposable head to a probe that provides at least electronic bursts of pulses to the patient's skin during the skin treatment procedure. The disposable head also includes at least one substance holding region for holding the substance prior to the skin treatment procedure. The disposable head includes a top part that includes at least one duct for providing the substance to the patient's skin. The disposable head also includes at least one piston that pushes the substance from the at least one substance holding region to the patient's skin via the at least one duct.12-03-2009
20100174275METHOD AND APPARATUS FOR QUASI-FRACTIONAL INTENSE PULSE LIGHT RESURFACING - An apparatus for treating a skin surface of a patient includes a light source for providing light to the skin surface. The apparatus also includes a shield provided at an output port of the light source so as to be disposed between the skin surface and the light source, the shield including a plurality of holes. The shield is made of a ceramic material that allows light to pass therethrough at an attenuated amount.07-08-2010
20100174277METHOD AND APPARATUS FOR QUASI-FRACTIONAL INTENSE PULSE LIGHT RESURFACING - A system and method for treating a skin target area includes one or more RF electrodes adapted to provide RF energy for heating the skin target area. A quasi-fractional light unit is adapted to provide optical spots of energy having a wavelength not greater than 1200 nm for heating the skin target area. The RF electrodes and the quasi-fractional light unit are configured to provide energy essentially simultaneously to the skin target area to heat the entire target in non-uniform manner by way of a matrix of spots each having a predetermined diameter.07-08-2010
20100274175METHOD AND APPARATUS FOR SKIN ABSORPTION ENHANCEMENT AND TRANSDERMAL DRUG DELIVERY - A method and apparatus for enhancing absorption of a substance to be provided on a region of a patient's skin, includes outputting, by an electronic burst pulse generator, bursts of electronic pulses to the patient's skin, wherein the electronic pulses are generated by an electronic pulse generator. The method and apparatus also includes outputting, by a mechanical burst pulse generator, bursts of mechanical vibrations to the patient's skin at the same time the electronic pulses are applied to the patient's skin. The bursts of electronic pulses are output at a first burst rate, and the mechanical vibrations are output as bursts of vibrations at a second burst rate.10-28-2010

20100137393PREDICTION AND PROPHYLACTIC TREATMENT OF TYPE 1 DIABETES - An in vitro method for predicting the onset of type 1 diabetes (T1 D) in a subject, comprises the steps of: (a) measuring the concentration of at least one amino acid, amino acid derivative or amino acid metabolite in a biological sample taken from the subject; (b) determining the subject's HLA genotype; (c) assigning the subject's genetic risk of developing T1 D on the basis of the subject's HLA genotype; (d) combining the information obtained in step (a) with the information in step (c); and (e) predicting the likelihood of onset of T1 D based upon the combination of step (d). The diagnostic method can be used to select target subjects for T1 D prophylactic treatment, and as part of a T1 D preventative treatment regime for neonates having a likelihood of developing childhood T1 D.06-03-2010
