The position sensor delivers a measurement signal having information regarding a predetermined area of the vehicle interior of the motor vehicle. The radiation source emits a predetermined radiation after activation. The vital sensor detects a reflected portion of the radiation that is emitted by the radiation source. The measurement signal of the vital sensor is representative of at least one vital parameter of a given vehicle occupant. As a function of the measurement signal of the position sensor, a position is determined of at least one predetermined reference body part of the vehicle occupant in question. The orientation of the radiation source is controlled as a function of the detected position of the predetermined reference body part of the vehicle occupant in question. | 07-23-2015 |

20150074051 | BUILDING A METADATA INDEX FROM SOURCE METADATA RECORDS WHEN CREATING A TARGET VOLUME FOR SUBSEQUENT METADATA ACCESS FROM THE TARGET VOLUME - Provided are a computer program product, system, and method for building a metadata index from source metadata records when creating a target volume for subsequent metadata access from the target volume. A copy operation is initiated to copy the source volume to the target volume, wherein the target volume is created with a target volume name different from a source volume name of the source volume. Source volume metadata having records including information on data sets in the source volume is copied to target volume metadata. A metadata index is generated indicating locations of the records in the target volume metadata having information on the data sets in the target volume. The metadata index is used to access the records in the target volume metadata when accessing data sets in the target volume. | 03-12-2015 |

20080316567 | Illumination Source and Method Therefor - An illumination source and a method therefor. A light source includes a light circuit configured to process light and direct light, and a lighting element optically coupled to the light circuit to provide multiple colors of light. The light circuit propagates light using light guides. The use of light guides eliminates the use of free space optical elements, enabling the creation of more compact light sources. Furthermore, the use of light guides may enable the creation of light sources with fewer mechanical restrictions, thereby making the light sources potentially more reliable and less expensive. | 12-25-2008 |
20090122278 | NON-SPECULAR FOLDING MIRROR AND A SYSTEM OF USING THE SAME - A non-specular reflective optical element comprises a reflective surface. A beam of incident light can be reflected such that the reflective angle may or may not be the same as the incident angle. In an exemplary application of a rear projection system, the non-specular folding mirror is used to project the modulated light from a light valve onto a translucent screen. | 05-14-2009 |

20100182019 | Method and apparatus for determining soil water content - This invention is concerned with a method and apparatus to measure soil water content. A sensor electrode assembly comprised of a sensor electrode fixed to a spherical shape is implanted in undisturbed soil at the bottom of a low narrow hole in the soil under evaluation. A second electrode is implanted in adjacent soil. Water is adsorbed on the surface of the sensor electrode in proportion to the water in the soil. Electrical charge layers are present at the sensor electrode/water interface due to dissolved oxygen in the adsorbed water. These charge layers result in an interfacial capacitance whose magnitude varies with the amount of water in the soil. Under the assumption that the capacitance of the second electrode/adjacent soil interface is constant, the change in capacitance across the two wires connected to the two electrodes give a measure of the change in soil water content. Energy flow during this measurement is unidirectional, that is, from the interfacial capacitance to the measuring device. | 07-22-2010 |
