20090288760METHODS AND APPARATUS FOR PEELING A FLEXIBLE SHEET FROM A SUBSTRATE - Methods and apparatus are described for removing donor sheets from substrates. A take-up roller contacts the donor element at or near an edge thereof and a peel roller contacts the donor element at a location spaced apart from the edge. A securing mechanism secures the edge of the donor element to the take-up roller which is then moved away from the substrate. While maintaining the peel roller in contact with the donor element, the take-up roller is rotated to take up the donor element while the peel roller and take-up roller are both simultaneously moved in a direction tangential to the substrate. In this manner, the donor element is peeled from the surface of the substrate.11-26-2009
20100087837Surgical Instrument and Method for Tensioning and Securing a Flexible Suture - A surgical instrument may be used to apply tension to a flexible suture to close and secure a broken or cut bone (e.g. a sternum following a sternotomy). The device preferably applies an adjustable tension to the flexible suture in order to secure the bone together. Multiple instruments may be used together to ensure the desired tension is applied to the entire bone structure being secured with the flexible sutures. Once the desired tension is achieved, the device preferably provides a mechanism to apply a uniform twist to the flexible suture to lock the flexible suture in place. The instrument preferably decreases the upward tension applied to the flexible sutures over the duration of the application of twisting.. The device may automatically cut the flexible suture, or the flexible suture may be cut by the surgeon once the twisting action has been performed.04-08-2010
20110032322ROLLER ALIGNMENT - A rotatable roller is provided which includes a first end and a second end and a surface adapted to wrap a portion of the media thereupon. A carriage conveys the roller along a path. The roller is moved by first and second drives. The first and second drives can be differentially operated to reorient the roller with respect to a direction along the path. The first drive and the second drive can be operated, differentially or non-differentially, to move the carriage along the path. The reoriented roller can be rotated about its axis while conveying the media to wrap the portion of the media onto the surface. The portion of the media can be sized to wrap over the surface of the reoriented roller without overlapping itself. The first drive and the second drive can be operated non-differentially to convey the reoriented roller along a portion of the path.02-10-2011

20090273796PEELING IMAGED MEDIA FROM A SUBSTRATE - A method for imaging a media is provided which includes supporting a substrate and the media in a layered configuration. An imaging head is operated to image the media by directing radiation beams towards a surface of the imaged media while effecting relative movement between the imaging head and the support. A roller is brought into contact with the imaged media. The roller can be brought into contact with an un-imaged region of the surface of the imaged media, the un-imaged region corresponding to a region of the surface of the imaged media that is not impinged by the radiation beams. The un-imaged region could be an edge portion of the media. Relative movement is effected between an axis of rotation of the roller and the support to cause the roller to roll on the regions of the surface of the imaged media impinged by the radiation beams.11-05-2009

Within the tube but smaller than the inner diameter thereof is a core apparatus comprising a non-rotating mounting element supportive of a plurality of idle rollers, extending from the mounting element in the direction of tube travel, the idle rollers making contact with the inner wall of the tube, preferably at a line orthogonal to the contact line of the tube with the surface being rolled. In a preferred embodiment, the core apparatus exerts no force vector toward the surface being rolled, the weight of the elastomeric tube itself exerting sufficient force.06-04-2009
