ADVANCED HOUSEHOLD WATER PURIFICATION MEANS - An apparatus for purifying and dispensing water of a quality suitable for human consumption comprises a first reservoir for holding unfiltered water. The water moves by the force of gravity downward through a water filtering and purifying cartridge into a second lower reservoir. An electrically powered hydraulic pump and associated electrical controls and plumbing enable the pump to periodically lift water from the second reservoir to the first reservoir to permit its return through the filter thereby enhancing the purity of the water before it is dispensed. The apparatus may include first, second and third reservoirs wherein the first reservoir is nominally at the same level as the second reservoir with the unfiltered or filtered water being pumped from the first reservoir and passed through the filter into the second reservoir. The associated electrical controls and plumbing enable the pump to periodically move water from the second reservoir to the third reservoir from which the water drains by gravity through the filter into the second reservoir thereby enhancing the purity of the water before it is dispensed. | 10-23-2008
PRECISION SHARPENER FOR HUNTING AND ASIAN KNIVES - A knife sharpener is provided which is capable of precision sharpening of hunting and similar knives that have a first and second blade face, each of which terminates at a facet that meets the corresponding facet to create the knife edge. At least the first of the blade faces has a lower distinct planar or concave section adjacent the edge facet with the lower planar or concave section of the face being set at an angle to the center line of the blade thickness that is different from the angle of the adjoining upper section of the same blade face located adjacent to the back of the blade. The sharpener includes a sharpening member such as one having an abrasive coated surface. The sharpener also includes a planar angle knife guide surface of a knife guide which is designed for intimate sliding and sustaining contact with the second face of the blade in order to position an edge facet on the first of the faces into precise angular relation with the sharpening surface. The sharpener also includes a knife holding spring that applies force against the first face of the blade predominantly at one or more locations on the lower planar or concave section of the first face that is adjacent to the edge facet being sharpened in order that the lower section adjacent the edge on the second face of the blade is pressured to align with and remain in intimate sliding alignment with the guide surface as the blade edge facet on the first face is being sharpened. | 10-23-2008
ACCURATE TEMPERATURE MEASUREMENT IN HOUSEHOLD KETTLES - A vessel for the preparation of heated water or other liquid based material includes a container for the liquid, an electric heater and a temperature sensing probe mounted through a wall or base of the container. The probe includes an efficient heat transferring structure in direct thermal contact with and wet by the liquid inside the container. An electrical sensor within the probe is an intimate thermal contact with the efficient heat transfer structure and has electrical properties which directly correlate with the temperature of the heat transferring structure. The heat transferring structure is attached to a supporting structure mounted to the wall or base by an elastomeric efficient thermal insulating material held in compression to provide physical support for the probe and to seal the wall from leaking and to insure that the sensor is primarily thermally responsive to the temperature of the heat transferring surface and to the liquid but is thermally insulated from variations in the temperature of the supporting wall or base of the container. | 11-05-2009

Discontinuous Surface Coating for Particles - The present invention relates to particle compositions comprising a core particle that is partially coated with a first hydrophilic deposit and a hydrophobic polymeric finish, contains a small amount of water, and a compatible active present in the deposit, the finish or both. Additional alternating deposits, hydrophobic, hydrophilic or both, can be present between the first hydrophilic deposit and the hydrophobic polymeric finish. Similarly, additional compatible actives can be present in one or more of the additional alternating deposits. The invention also relates to methods of preparing the particle compositions. | 01-20-2011

INTERFACE DEVICES AND METHODS FOR AUTOMATED BENCHMARKING OF BEST MEDICAL PRACTICES AND PRODUCTS - A system for the collection, management, and dissemination of information relating at least to a medical procedure is disclosed. The system includes a user interface adapted to provide raw data information at least about one of a patient, the medical procedure, and a result of the medical procedure. A medical device communicates with the user interface, receives the raw data information from the user interface, and generates operational information during use. A central database communicates at least with the medical device and receives data from the medical device. The central database is used to create related entries based on the raw data information and the operational information and optionally transmits the related entry to the medical device or the medical device user. The related entry includes information that provides guidance based on previously tabulated, related medical procedures. A system for the iterative analysis of medical standards is also disclosed along with methods for the evaluation of medical procedures and standards. | 11-03-2011
