20080293146Method And Apparatus For Compensating For Variations In Particle Trajectories In Electrostatic Sorter For Flowcell Cytometer - A flow cytometer subsystems monitors a particle sensing zone within a fluid transport chamber for the presence of a particle (e.g., blood cell) traveling therethrough, and produces an output pulse, whose width is representative of the trajectory and thereby the length of time that the particle is within the particle sensing zone as it travels through the fluid transport chamber. This output pulse is then processed in accordance with geometry parameters of successive time delay zones of the particle fluid transport chamber through which the particle passes, in order to derive a composite time delay between the sensing of the particle to the time at which a fluid droplet containing the particle will break off from the carrier fluid. The composite time delay is employed to accurately establish the time at which the particle is controllably charged as the particle breaks off from the carrier fluid.11-27-2008

Each filter transmits a particular band of the output beam and reflects the remaining bands to the next filter in the opposite row of filters. The array further includes a plurality of detectors mounted in detector ports. The optical alignment assembly presented herein generally includes a housing configured to receive an optical fiber, at least one collimating lens, a rotatable housing member with a beam reflecting element attached thereto. The optical alignment assembly is adjustable to introduce an output beam into a detector array utilizing a rotational adjustment mechanism and a goniometric tilt adjustment mechanism. 20110229297TRAY DENESTER WITH AIR NOZZLE SEPARATORS - A tray denester for separating individual trays from a stack. The tray denester includes a product carrier plate that is movable toward and away from the discharge end of a product magazine. The product carrier plate includes a pair of air nozzle assemblies. As the product carrier plate moves toward the discharge end of the magazine, the air nozzle assemblies are activated to create a low-pressure zone along the product carrier plate. When the product carrier plate reaches the discharge end, an escapement mechanism releases the stack of trays. As the stack of trays is released, the low-pressure zone separates one of the trays from the stack. The separated tray contacts the product carrier plate and is removed from the stack. Each of the air nozzle assemblies is adjustable along the product carrier plate to vary the position of the air nozzle assemblies based upon the specific tray design.09-22-2011

20090162504PROCESSING TECHNIQUE TO THAW PARTIALLY FROZEN FRUITS AND VEGETABLES AND INCORPORATING SOLIDS - A method for thawing and infusing partially frozen fruits or vegetables. Individually quick frozen fruits or vegetables are introduced into a mixing kettle. An infusion solution is circulated from a solution tank, through a bed of fruits or vegetables, and back to a solution tank. The infusion solution is maintained at a temperature of about 45° to about 50° F. and at a Brix of about 40° to about 50°. The infusion solution is pumped and circulated at a high rate which reduces thaw time but does not result in product degradation. After thawing, the pumping and re-circulating rate is decreased to allow for increased infusion efficiency. Pressure pulses are applied to the product in the mixing tank which decreases the infusion time. Thus, thawed and infused fruit and vegetables are produced quickly and with minimal product degradation.06-25-2009

20090306830Control Valve System with Cycle Monitoring, Diagnostics and Degradation Prediction - A valve body has an elongated bore in communication with an inlet port and an outlet port. A valve element is movable within the bore between deactuated and actuated positions. A valve sensor generates a sensor signal indicative of an instantaneous parameter of the valve that changes between the deactuated and actuated positions. A logic unit receives the sensor signal and a pilot command signal that actuates the valve. A predetermined change in the pilot command signal causes the logic unit to determine a cycle parameter responsive to a time period between two predetermined events. At least the beginning or end of the time period corresponds to a predetermined value of the sensor signal. The individual determinations of the cycle parameter are accumulated to obtain an expected cycle parameter. The logic unit generates an indication signal when the cycle parameter exhibits a predetermined variance from the expected cycle parameter.12-10-2009

20110214712SOLAR ENERGY CONVERSION - Methods, apparatus, and systems relating to the use and design of specially shaped, rotating reflective louvers to provide cost effectively harvesting of electricity, heat, and/or lighting are described. In an embodiment, the reflected and concentrated direct light is focused on the neighboring louver photovoltaic cells to generate electricity and an integral cooling channel allows heat collection. A skylight embodiment permits the indirect light to pass between the louvers and through a transparent backing providing high quality natural light inside while allowing artificial lights to be dimmed or turned off saving energy. In some embodiments, control systems (that may be computer controlled) can modulate the louver position to improve the light transmitted into the building when appropriate to maximize the net energy saved or generated depending on the situation. Moreover, the devices can be retrofitted into existing buildings or integrated into new building construction. Other embodiments are also disclosed.09-08-2011

20090173375SOLAR ENERGY CONVERSION DEVICES AND SYSTEMS - Methods and devices are presented that allow the harvest of electricity, heat and lighting simultaneously from a solar converter, often at less cost than conventional solar collectors. The converters use slats to intercept sunlight. Slat surfaces in the direct light path may be coated with photovoltaic (PV) material, or may be shaped to concentrate sunlight, allowing less PV material to capture reflected, concentrated light for improved economics. Forcing air flow past enclosed slats let the slats operate as PV heat sinks, heat absorbers, and heat exchangers capturing much of the solar energy that is not converted to electricity, as heat. Embodiments also allow passage of indirect light to supplement interior artificial lighting, often with positive aesthetic effects. These slatted apertures mitigate glare and overheating problems associated with typical skylights and some windows, allowing wider use as architectural elements. The devices also can be integrated into new building construction, and serve a dual purpose as building structural components.07-09-2009

20100092467PREVENTION OF TISSUE ISCHEMIA, RELATED METHODS AND COMPOSITIONS - Provided herein are compositions and methods for preventing, ameliorating, and/or reducing tissue ischemia and/or tissue damage due to ischemia, increasing blood vessel diameter, blood flow and tissue perfusion in the presence of vascular disease including peripheral vascular disease, atherosclerotic vascular disease, coronary artery disease, stroke and influencing other conditions, by suppressing CD47 and/or blocking TSP1 and/or CD47 activity or interaction. Influencing the interaction of CD47-TSP1 in blood vessels allows for control of blood vessel diameter and blood flow, and permits modification of blood pressure and cardiac function. Under conditions of decreased blood flow, for instance through injury or atherosclerosis, blocking TSP1-CD47 interaction allows blood vessels to dilate and increases blood flow, tissue perfusion and tissue survival. This in turn reduces or prevents tissue necrosis and death. The therapeutics identified herein allow for precise regulation of blood flow to tissues and organs which need it, while substantially avoiding systemic complications. Methods and compositions described herein can be used to increase tissue survival under conditions of trauma and surgery, as well as conditions of chronic vascular disease. Also disclosed are methods for the treatment of elderly subjects using agents that affect TSP1 and CD47 and thereby affect tissue perfusion. Additionally, provided herein are compositions and methods for influencing blood coagulation, allowing for controlled increased or decreased blood clotting. Additionally, provided herein are compositions and methods for decreasing blood flow, as in the case of cancer through mimicking the effects of TSP1 and CD47 on blood vessel diameter and blood flow.04-15-2010
