20090012395ACOUSTIC PLETHYSMOGRAPH FOR MEASURING PULMONARY FUNCTION - The present disclosure concerns embodiments of an acoustic plethysmograph for measuring pulmonary function of an animal, such as a mouse. The plethysmograph in exemplary embodiments can measure thoracic tidal volume of an unrestrained animal. The plethysmograph in exemplary embodiments acoustically excites the chamber containing the animal and detects changes in the acoustic pressure in the chamber, which correlate to the thoracic tidal volume of the animal. Unlike the conventional whole-body plethysmograph, this acoustic plethysmograph provides a direct measure of thoracic tidal volume. The plethysmograph also can be configured to measure chamber flow (the flow of air into and out of the chamber). Specific airway resistance of the animal can then be determined from the thoracic tidal volume and plethysmograph flow measurements.01-08-2009

20110231356FlexSCAPE: Data Driven Hypothesis Testing and Generation System - The present invention relates to a method for generating hypotheses automatically from graphical models built directly from data. The method of the present invention links three key scientific concepts to enable hypothesis generation from data driven hypothesis-models: including the use of information theory based measures to identify informative feature subsets within the data; the automatic generation of graphical models from the informative data subsets identified from step one; and the application of optimization methods to graphical models to enable hypothesis generation. The integration of these three concepts can enable scalable approaches to hypothesis generation from large, complex data environments. The use of graphical models as the model representation can allow prior knowledge to be effectively integrated into the modeling environment.09-22-2011

20090037618Channel communicaton Array Queues in Hardware System Area - A bi-directional and full duplex facility for permitting both the IO processor and the Channel to write CCA messages on their respective queues at the same time. IOP messages to the channel are stored on the TO_CHN queue and Channel messages to the IOP on the TO_IOP queue. CCA Queues replace hardware CCAs due to increasing transmission capabilities of current IO processors and Channel processors. Even though the mechanism is similar, the present invention provides some benefits in the use of signaling. The IOP does not have to signal the Channel each time it puts something on its outbound queue. Each queue contains multiple slots. This allows the IOP and Channel to write multiple messages on the targeted queue without encountering a CCA busy signal. The actual queues are now structured in hardware system memory.02-05-2009

20090020697Enhanced Resolution Mass Spectrometer and Mass Spectrometry Method - A mass spectrum is generated by a process in which, from a mass scan signal comprising original samples defining a peak, a subset of the original samples defining the peak is selected. One or more synthesized samples are synthesized from the subset of the original samples. The one or more synthesized samples provide a temporal resolution greater than the temporal resolution of the original samples. The one or more synthesized samples are summed with respective temporally-aligned accumulated samples to produce the mass spectrum.
