20120002738METHOD AND APPARATUS TO SUPPORT SCALABILITY IN A MULTICARRIER NETWORK - A multicarrier communication device using orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) symbols can vary the number of subcarriers being used on multicarrier communication within a network, based on a predetermined criterion and capability information. The capability information can include a data file, which indicates portions of an electromagnetic spectrum for which regulatory body licenses are currently obtained for a network cell. Alternatively, the capability information can include capability information about the wireless devices in communication with the multicarrier communication device, where the capability information for each wireless device includes device power limitations, device bandwidth width limitations, or which subcarriers a wireless device is capable of using.01-05-2012

20110150113Distortion-Aware multiple input multiple output precoding - Precoding parameters used for precoding of a source are selected to minimize distortion that would otherwise be induced in the source during encoding and transmission of the source over a multiple input multiple output (MIMO) channel.06-23-2011
20120069927CQI feedback mechanisms for distortion-aware link adaptation toward enhanced multimedia communications - Link adaptation parameters for encoding of a source are selected to minimize distortion between the source and a reconstructed source induced by transmission of the source over a multiple input multiple output (MIMO) channel. Such distortion-awareness and associated joint source-channel coding ideas to support link adaptation over MIMO channels may affect system architectures for MIMO systems. CQI feedback mechanisms may ensure that these distortion-aware MIMO link adaptation techniques are applicable for downlink channels, under different forms of link adaptation, including MS-controlled vs. BS-controlled link adaptation, long-term vs. dynamic link adaptation, and presence vs. absence of distortion-awareness at the BS, for different kinds of video coding including single-layer compression and layered compression.03-22-2012
20120077466TECHNIQUES TO WIRELESSLY TRANSMIT DATA - Techniques are described to transmit multimedia content to a mobile station using a combination of a mobile/cellular network as well as a TV Whitespace (TVWS) network. Scalable video coding can be used to transmit a baseline layer of multi-media content using the mobile/cellular network and one or more enhancement layers over the TVWS channels. Joint source-channel coding can be used to adjust the transmission scheme used by mobile/cellular and/or TVWS based on end user experience.03-29-2012

20120123904SEARCHING FOR GOODS AND SERVICES BASED ON KEYWORDS AND PROXIMITY - Techniques for keyword-based searching are described. Some embodiments provide a Merchant Information Search System (“MISS”) that allows a potential customer to search for information about proximately located merchants that provide goods and/or services that match one or more keywords provided by the customer. In some embodiments, multiple keywords are associated with individual goods and/or services provided by a merchant. By associating keywords with individual goods and/or services, rather than a category or type of goods, the MISS may provide fine-grained search results that identify merchants that would not have been otherwise identified by category-based approaches to searching. Some embodiments employ other or additional techniques, including proximity-based searching and keyword feedback to improve search performance.05-17-2012

20110213417IMPLANT AND DELIVERY SYSTEM FOR SOFT TISSUE REPAIR - Implant and delivery systems for soft tissue repair which affix soft tissue portions to a region of bone are described. Generally, the assembly includes two bone anchors preloaded through an inserter handle such that each anchor is penetrated into the bone directly. The first anchor is inserted through the tissue and into the bone, where it is locked into position. The first anchor has a suture or wire that protrudes through the tissue and threads through the second anchor and is secured to a rotatable suture reel located along the handle. The second anchor is inserted through the tissue and into the bone independently of the first anchor. Once the second anchor is deployed, the suture or wire is tensioned to secure the soft tissue to the bone and a suture plug within the second anchor is deployed to lock the suture or wire in place.09-01-2011

20080319478KNOTLESS SUTURE ANCHOR HAVING DISCRETE POLYMER COMPONENTS AND RELATED METHODS - A knotless bone anchor and method for securing soft tissue, such as tendons, to bone, includes a plurality of discrete components. In one variation of the invention, the bone anchor includes a proximal toggle component, an intermediate plug component, and a distal sleeve component. Suture is looped around the plug component and once the anchor is actuated, the suture is compressed between the plug and the sleeve components. Advantageously, one or more of the components may be made of a biocompatible polymer. The polymeric components may be detachably joined to a drive shaft using a plurality of sacrificial fills. The sacrificial fills are broken or severed during deployment of the anchor. Related instruments and methods are also described.12-25-2008

20090222040METHODS AND DEVICES FOR ATTACHING CONNECTIVE TISSUES TO BONE USING A KNOTLESS SUTURE ANCHORING DEVICE - A device for attaching connective tissue to bone has a longitudinal axis and comprises an annular toggle member and a body member disposed distally of the toggle member, such that there is an axial space between the toggle member and the body member. The toggle member is movable between an undeployed position wherein the toggle member has a smaller profile in a direction transverse to the axis and a deployed position wherein the toggle member has a larger profile in the direction transverse to the axis. When installed in a desired procedural site, in suitable bone, suturing material extends axially through a center aperture in the annular toggle member, without being secured to or contacting the toggle member. This approach permits a suture attachment which lies entirely beneath the cortical bone surface, and which further permit the attachment of suture to the bone anchor without the necessity for tying knots, which is particularly arduous and technically demanding in the case of arthroscopic procedures.09-03-2009

20100191283KNOTLESS SUTURE ANCHORING DEVICE HAVING DEFORMING SECTION TO ACCOMMODATE SUTURES OF VARIOUS DIAMETERS - An innovative bone anchor and methods for securing soft tissue, such as tendons, to bone, which permit a suture attachment that lies entirely beneath the cortical bone surface. The suturing material between the soft tissue and the bone anchor may be secured without the need for tying a knot. The suture attachment to the bone anchor involves the looping of a length of suture around a suture return member or path within the bone anchor, tightening the suture and attached soft tissue, and compressing the suture against the bone anchor. The bone anchor may be a tubular body having a lumen with a locking plug that compresses the suture therein. One of the components of the locking structure may include a deformable or flexible section, member, or surface. The locking plug may include a shaft and an enlarged head that interferes with the tubular body to provide a positive stop. An actuation rod attached at a frangible section to the shaft may be manipulated by an external handle during locking of the suture within the bone anchor. The bone anchor further may include locking structure for securing itself within a bone cavity.07-29-2010
