20080202881STARTER UNIT - The invention concerns a starter unit having a hydrodynamic clutch with a pump wheel and a turbine wheel which form together a torus-shaped working space, which can be filled and emptied with working medium by way of a supply and discharge medium. A circulatory flow of the working medium can be provided in said working space; at which a throttling component has been provided which can be moved by means of a pressure- controlled adjusting mechanism in order to affect the circulatory flow in and/or at the working space; and a mechanical bridging clutch having at least two coupling elements which can be placed in a friction-locked connection to each other via a pressure-controlled clutch-engaging device so that the pump wheel and the turbine wheel are torque connected.08-28-2008
20090314598HYDRODYNAMIC CLUTCH - A hydrodynamic clutch includes an impeller and a turbine wheel which jointly form a toroidal working chamber that is or can be filled with a working medium. A throttle plate is provided which can be moved in the axial direction of the hydrodynamic clutch in order to be optionally introduced into the working chamber and/or be displaced within the working chamber. The throttle plate extends in the area of a central diameter of the working chamber in the circumferential direction of the hydrodynamic clutch. The intake end of the throttle plate extends parallel or substantially parallel to the axis of rotation of the hydrodynamic clutch from the perspective of an axial section across the hydrodynamic clutch, the working medium flowing against the intake end of the throttle plate in a circular flow. The throttle plate can be moved from an inactive position in which the same has no or only a slight throttling effect on the circular flow of the working medium in the working chamber into an active position in which the same has a comparatively much greater throttling effect on the circular flow, the inactive position being located in the area of the separation gap between the impeller and the turbine wheel. From the perspective of an axial section across the hydrodynamic clutch, the working chamber covers the entire area, without having a center that is delimited relative to the remaining working chamber by way of a wall, such that the throttle plate is directly enclosed by the flow zone of the working chamber in both the active and inactive position of the throttle plate without mounting a wall therebetween.12-24-2009

20100206096UNIVERSAL PHYSIOLOGIC SAMPLING PUMP (PSP) CAPABLE OF RAPID RESPONSE TO BREATHING - The present invention discloses a physiologic sampling pump (PSP) which uses at least one valve placed near the sampling medium to modulate air sampling to follow a person's inhalation rate and to obviate the sluggishness inherent in prior art PSPs caused by varying pump speed and by the propagation time through an air tube that connects the collection medium to prior art pumps thereby also obviating limitations inherent in system response, functionality, and accuracy. Moreover, by maintaining an essentially constant air flow through a cyclone at all times and through the collection medium while sampling, the present invention operates at known collection efficiencies, and is therefore capable of size-selective sampling of particulates as opposed to prior art PSPs that by varying the magnitude of air flow, make the separation efficiencies of pre-collection devices indeterminate and the samples worthless. When used instead with an impact sampling head, the present invention may collect total particulate as well, and may collect gases and vapors with a charcoal tube sampling head. Structural features associated with the physiological sampling pump for providing rapid response to breathing include an outer housing including a thereto-resistant case, multiple and interchangeable PSP sampling heads further including collection media and a valve(s) mounted on a valve manifold with associated tubing.08-19-2010

20090214899BATTERY LAYOUT INCORPORATING FULL METAL EDGE SEAL - A first current collector on the first surface of the substrate and a second current collector having a first surface and a perimeter. One of the first and second current collector is an anode current collector and the other is a cathode current collector. The battery also comprises a cathode material having a perimeter, the cathode material being located on the cathode current collector; an electrolyte layer having a perimeter, the electrolyte separating the cathode material from the anode current collector; an insulation layer having a perimeter, the insulation layer together with the electrolyte layer separating the anode current collector from the cathode material and the cathode current collector. A first passivation layer generally overlies at least the perimeter of the cathode material, the perimeter of the electrolyte, and the perimeter of the insulation layer, the first passivation layer being electrically coupled to the first current collector and forming a continuous metal to metal seal around a defined area of the first current collector. The first passivation layer has a via opening. A second passivation layer is electrically coupled to the second current collector through the via opening of the first passivation layer.08-27-2009
