20080238335 | Light Source Having a Plurality of White LEDs with Different Output Spectra - A solid state light source having first and second component light sources and an interface circuit and a method for making the same are disclosed. The first and second component light sources emit light having first and second color points on different sides of the black body radiation curve. The first and second component light sources include LEDs that emit light of a first wavelength and a layer of a light converting material that converts a portion of that light to light of a second wavelength. The interface circuit powers the first and second component light sources such that the solid state light source has a color point that is closer to the black body radiation curve than either the first or second color points. A third component light source can be included to expand the range of white color temperatures that can be reached by the light source. | 10-02-2008 |

20100069878 | Intracavitary Radiation System - A system is provided for use in brachytherapy where a central tube permits passage of a radioactive source therethrough to deliver a prescribed dosage of radiation. One or more balloons are coaxially positioned around the central tube. At least one balloon includes one or more peripheral tubes extending along at least a portion of the balloon. The peripheral tube is also attached to the high dose rate brachytherapy unit in order to permit passage of a radioactive source therethrough. | 03-18-2010 |
20110033028 | Unfiltered Radiation Therapy - This is a new technique in IMRT and 3D conformal gamma radiation dose delivery using a linear accelerator with no flattening filter. The technique improves patient radiation therapy by reducing radiation scattered to surrounding normal tissue and reducing electron contamination. It increases dose rate to shorten treatment time. Linear accelerators have for decades come with a photon flattening filter to make the photon profile of planar fluence to make the dose distribution more uniform. These filters, however, resulted in fluence attenuation and contamination of the beam. Now in the age of techniques such as intensity modulated radiation therapy (IMRT) the function of the flattening filter becomes redundant. The flattening filter now merely reduces the efficiency of the beam by reducing the fluence and increasing scattered radiation. Our technique involves removal of the flattening filter for complex treatments. It uses inverse planning along with multi-leaf collimators to shape the dose distribution. | 02-10-2011 |
20110200526 | System for Concurrent Delivery of Thermobrachytherapy in the Treatment of Cancers - A system combines hyperthermia and radiation treatments in a single treatment modality by using a radioactive seed having magnetic properties. | 08-18-2011 |

20110089842 | Apparatus and Methods for Interactive Illumination - In illustrative implementations of this invention, a lighting system comprises a plurality of LEDs, fluorescent lights, incandescent lights, a processor, a sensor node and a human-computer interface. The sensor is adapted to be moved by a user and placed in the location that a user wants to illumine. The LED lights are adapted to emit pulse-width modulated (PWM) light, controlled by signals from the processor. The lighting system is adapted to optimize parameters (such as efficacy or color rendering index) selected by the user, subject to certain constraints (such as desired illuminance or color temperature). According to principles of this invention, if a sensor is moved, attenuation may be measured and the inverse square law may be used to determine how constraints in an optimization algorithm need to be updated. | 04-21-2011 |
20120031984 | Personalized Building Comfort Control - In exemplary implementations of this invention, control apparatus for a HVAC system provides personalized comfort control. It can adjust local conditions in different rooms within a building in order to maximize the perceived comfort of individual occupants. The control apparatus locates individuals within a building. For each individual, it senses temperature, humidity and other parameters at the individual's location, calculates a comfort metric indicative of the user's comfort, and can control the flow of chilled or heated air to the individual's location in order to adjust local conditions to maximize the individual's comfort. | 02-09-2012 |

20140345623 | NASAL DEVICES WITH VARIABLE LEAK PATHS, NASAL DEVICES WITH ALIGNERS, AND NASAL DEVICES WITH FLAP VALVE PROTECTORS - Improved passive resistance nasal devices for treating a patient (and particularly, but not exclusively, a sleeping patient) that inhibit exhalation more than inhalation. For example, described herein are passive-resistance nasal devices having a variable sized opening leak path that change the size of the leak path opening depending on the pressure extended across the nasal device. Also described herein are passive nasal devices including a deployable insertion guide member. Also described herein are passive nasal devices including an extension member to hold the airflow resistor portion of the nasal device slightly apart from the subject's nose, even as the nasal device itself may be secured against the nose or nostril openings. Methods of operating these nasal devices and methods of treating patients using these devices are also described. | 11-27-2014 |

20130126562 | FLOOR APPLICATION SYSTEM - A portable liquid applicator system and a method for applying liquid directly from an original package container, e.g., a five-gallon bucket, to a surface. The system includes a wheeled platform onto which the container is positioned such that fluid within the container flows toward a pour opening. A extended actuating handle engages a valve at the pour opening and allows the valve to be opened and closed by a user in an upright position, rather than having to bend to operate the valve. A method includes positioning the container on the platform, opening the valve, and then moving the platform to disperse the liquid onto a surface. | 05-23-2013 |

20110260091 | Aseptic or Sanitary Diaphragm Valve - An aseptic or sanitary diaphragm valve has a valve body and at least one cylinder-actuated valve mechanism. A chamber is defined between a cylinder head and a plate or disk, which has a central bore or passage. A flexible diaphragm extends across the cylinder below the plate or disk. A piston within a cylinder is connected with a valve member foot portion, with a stem passing from the foot portion, penetrating the diaphragm, and passing through the bor or passage to the piston. A compression spring urges the piston to either its raised or lowered position, and air pressure may be used to lower or to raise the piston and the associated valve foot. An aperture in the cylinder can reveal a compromise of the diaphragms. | 10-27-2011 |
20130014588 | Pressure Gauge and Diaphragm Adapter for use with Sanitary ConduitAANM Feldmeier; Robert H.AACI FayettevilleAAST NYAACO USAAGP Feldmeier; Robert H. Fayetteville NY US - A pressure gauge adapter for sanitary conduit accepts a standard pressure gauge with a male threaded stem. The adapter has a flange to mate with an upper flange of a tubular stub where a diaphragm is positioned to serve as fluid barrier to block process liquid from leaving, and to serve as a seal gland. A hollow cylindrical wall rises from the flange member, with a sealing flange at its upper end. An elongated piston is situated within the hollow cylindrical wall with a lower head upon the lower diaphragm, and an upper head reaching the top end of the cylinder. A cap or dome situated above the cylinder has a flange member that mates with the upper flange member of the cylinder, with an upper diaphragm therebetween. The cap defines a space above the upper diaphragm, and is filled with a transfer liquid. A threaded bore in the cap accepts the threaded stem of the pressure gauge. | 01-17-2013 |
20140027661 | Aseptic or Sanitary Diaphragm Valve - An aseptic valve or sanitary valve employs a floating plug situated within a cylindrical valve housing. The floating valve plug has a head that seats against an inlet opening, and has a stem and a generally conic foot that rests upon a diaphragm formed of a flexible, food-grade membrane. An actuator below the diaphragm urges the plug up to lodge against the inlet opening, and relieves force on the membrane and plug to open the valve. Spacer arms radiate from the stem or head of the plug, to keep the plug centered in the housing. | 01-30-2014 |
