20080218999Variable-wavelength illumination system for interferometry - An illumination system for an interferometer combines a white-light source and a green source with a reflective green dichroic filter. When the green source alone is energized for PSI measurements, the output of the illumination system is green only. When a white-light output is desired for VSI measurements, both sources are energized and the intensity of the green light is judiciously calibrated to match the spectral band filtered out by the dichroic mirror. Therefore, the system can switch between green and white light simply by changing the selection of energized sources, without any mechanical switching and attendant delays and vibrations. Multiple narrowband sources may be combined with white light in a similar manner.09-11-2008

20100013659COMPACT VISUAL INDICATIONS OF SCHEDULE SATURATION - A software tool, device, and method are disclosed for displaying schedule saturation. Schedule saturation indicators on an electronic display provide compact and easily comprehended visual overviews of the schedule saturations of days, weeks, months, etc, without attempting to display hour-by-hour schedule information. For example, a half-red, half-green rectangle can indicate that a day's schedule is half full. Optimal time periods can then be expanded for appointment scheduling. Visual indications of schedule saturation can vary in degree of filling, size, orientation, configuration, location, marking density, shading, color hue, and color intensity. A plurality of time interval and schedule saturation indicators can be displayed simultaneously, individual saturation indicators can be subdivided to indicate relative amounts of saturation due to different categories of events, and available portions of time periods can be specified such that saturation indicators indicate saturation of the available portions.01-21-2010

One or more information display regions is provided, and controls such as drop-down lists or buttons are used to select a data group for each location from lists of allowed choices. In this way, a user is not required to select each data group from among all possible choices. In preferred embodiments, data group lists can include a null choice that causes no information to be displayed. In further embodiments, sorting controls enable sorting of associated information display regions, and in some of these embodiments sorting one information display region sorts all the other information display regions correspondingly. In some embodiments, the electronic device communicates with the electronic display over a network or over the internet.01-21-2010
20100017738PROJECT TRACKING SOFTWARE WITH COMPACT VISUAL ELEMENTS THAT INDICATE TASK COMPLETION AND OVERDUE STATUS - A user interface and method of use thereof are disclosed that provide a compact and efficient overview of the status of a plurality of projects by using variable qualities of sub-task elements instead of a time-proportional timeline to indicate whether a sub-task is complete, not due, or overdue. Preferred embodiments present a grid of cells with projects in rows and sub-tasks in columns or vice-versa, and use variable qualities of cells to indicate completeness, time remaining, and/or degrees of lateness. A discrete set or a continuous range of variable qualities can indicate degrees of earliness or lateness, and can be chosen or defined by a user. Embodiments allow a user to input a deadline and/or completion status for a sub-task. In some method embodiments, the software operates on a server and the user interface is presented by a client communicating with the server over a network or the internet.01-21-2010

The skip field control enables a user to specify whether or not the corresponding input field will be skipped when the input focus is sequentially advanced, for example by using the tab or enter key. In preferred embodiments, a mouse or other pointing device can be used to select a skipped field when it is needed for input. Some embodiments allow only authorized users to change skip field settings. Skip field controls can apply to groups of input fields, and a hide-skip-field control can be included to hide and reveal the skip field controls.01-21-2010

20090047856Area bonded nonwoven fabric from single polymer system - A nonwoven fabric is provided having a plurality of semi-crystalline filaments that are thermally bonded to each other and are formed of the same polymer and exhibit substantially the same melting temperature. The fabric is produced by melt spinning an amorphous crystallizable polymer to form two components having different levels of crystallinity. During spinning, a first component of the polymer is exposed to conditions that result in stress-induced crystallization such that the first polymer component is in a semi-crystalline state and serves as the matrix or strength component of the fabric. The second polymer component is not subjected to stress induced crystallization and thus remains in a substantially amorphous state which bonds well at relatively low temperatures. In a bonding step, the fabric is heated to soften and fuse the binder component. Under these conditions, the binder component undergoes thermal crystallization so that in the final product, both polymer components are semi-crystalline.02-19-2009

20100279304METHODS FOR PRODUCING NUCLEIC ACID HYBRIDIZATION PROBES THAT AMPLIFY HYBRIDIZATION SIGNAL BY PROMOTING NETWORK FORMATION - This invention describes methods for the generation of nucleic acid probes that improve the sensitivity of hybridization assays. The sensitivity increase results from structural modifications of nucleic acids that promote network formation during hybridization with the result that a single target molecule becomes attached to a complex of many probe molecules. The structural modification involves fragmentation of the probe nucleic acid followed by joining the fragments together such that their order and orientation and number is altered from the original probe molecule. The result is the generation of permuted probe libraries. Various fragmentation and joining methods are described. Labeling can be done by standard methods before during or after formation of permuted probe libraries. Individual members of permuted probe libraries can be isolated and amplified and perpetuated. Fixed mixtures of such isolated library members can be used as permuted probe libraries of limited variability to control network complexity. Libraries can be prepared with additional sequences not present in the target and the fraction of the library made up by such sequences can be controlled. Such extra-target additions can be used as targets for detection by secondary probes. Since their number can be far greater than equimolar with the probe sequences represented in the target they can be detected with higher sensitivity in the networks. Probes for different targets can incorporate different non-target sequences in hyper-molar quantities permitting sensitive detection of multiple hybridization targets in the same sample. Probes made according to this invention can be used in many kinds of hybridization assay including Southern. blots, Northern blots, Dot blots, Nucleic acid Array hybridization, ‘in situ’ hybridization with fluorescent or other labels (FISH) and various kinds of sandwich hybridization assays.11-04-2010

20100250874APPARATUS AND METHOD FOR BUFFERED WRITE COMMANDS IN A MEMORY - Memories, buffered write command circuits, and methods for executing memory commands in a memory. In some embodiments, read commands that are received after write commands are executed internally prior to executing the earlier received write commands. Write commands are buffered so that the commands can be executed upon completion of the later received read command. One example of a buffered write command circuit includes a write command buffer to buffer write commands and propagate buffered write commands therethrough in response to a clock signal and further includes write command buffer logic. The write command buffer logic generates an active clock signal to propagate the buffered write commands through the write command buffer for execution, suspends the active clock signal in response to receiving a read command after the write command is received, and restarts the active clock upon completion of the later received read command.09-30-2010
20100332718SYSTEM AND METHOD FOR PROVIDING CONFIGURABLE LATENCY AND/OR DENSITY IN MEMORY DEVICES - Memory devices, memory controllers, methods, and systems are provided, such as methods for masking the row cycle latency time of a memory array. In one embodiment, a memory device that is configurable to operate in full or reduced density modes is provided. In a reduced density mode, certain banks within the memory array function as duplicate memory banks associated with an addressable memory bank. Write operations performed in the reduced density mode may write a data segment to an addressed memory bank as well as its associated duplicate banks. When repeated read requests are issued for the data segment, the read requests may be interleaved between the addressed bank and its duplicate banks, thereby masking the row cycle time of each physical bank. That is, the interval between each read out of the data segment from the memory array will appear to be less than the row cycle time.12-30-2010
