20080231108Method of Determining an Initial Pressure in a Motor Vehicle Brake System - A method of determining an initial pressure which prevails between a master brake cylinder and an inlet valve of a wheel brake cylinder of a motor vehicle brake system. It determines the initial pressure taking into consideration the variation of a follow-up voltage of a clock-operated motor of a pump, which is used for the return delivery of brake fluid from a low-pressure accumulator into the master brake cylinder. Several characteristic quantities of the voltage variation are measured and in each case taken into account to determine an initial pressure value, and the quality and/or reliability of the measured characteristic quantities is evaluated. The characteristic quantities and/or the initial pressure values determined therefrom are filtered and/or conditioned in the event of lack in quality and/or reliability of the measured characteristic quanitites. The initial pressure values determined from the various characteristic quantities are averaged, with only pressure values of similar size being taken into consideration and the initial pressure values are temporally averaged in order to dampen fluctuations.09-25-2008

20110278105PARKING BRAKE AND METHOD FOR OPERATING SAME - A parking brake having an actuator, wherein the actuator is driven by a direct current motor which can be operated in two directions. The actuator moves, via a self-locking gear mechanism of the actuator, at least one brake shoe for applying or releasing the parking brake in the direction of a rotary element or away therefrom. A control unit for performing open-loop or closed-loop control of the movement of the direct current motor is also provided. The parking brake is designed such that, when the parking brake is applied or released, an application point of the brake shoes against the rotary element is generally overshot. In order to increase the accuracy and reliability of the setting of the brake-application force when the parking brake is applied or of the brake-application clearance when the parking brake is released, the control unit determines the application point by forming the first derivative over time of the electric current taken up by the direct current motor during the application of the brake. A corresponding method for operating such a parking brake is also described.11-17-2011

20120134425Method and System for Adaptive Interpolation in Digital Video Coding - Disclosed are techniques for adaptive interpolation filtering of luminance and chrominance samples in the context of motion compensation in video encoding or decoding. A two-dimensional interpolation filter of n×m coefficients may be separable, i.e., it may be separated into two one-dimensional filters with m and n coefficients, respectively. The bitstream may include, per video unit and sub-sample position, information indicating whether to use a newly-generated, a cached, or a default filter that may be a separable two-dimensional filter. The information may be structured in a way that takes advantage of the two-dimensional filter being separable. When a newly-generated filter is signalled, the bitstream may contain information pertaining to the characteristics of the newly-generated filter, such as its coefficients. A decoder may fetch this information from the bitstream to create the filters which are applied to samples of the video unit. An encoder may create a bitstream as described.05-31-2012

20090034621Low-Complexity Motion Vector Prediction Systems and Methods - A method of motion vector prediction for use in differential motion vector coding within a block motion-compensation-based video coder. The video coder employs a generalized multiple reference picture buffer which may contain multiple reference pictures in both the forward and backward temporal direction from the current picture. For the purpose of coding selections of reference pictures within the buffer, the pictures are organized into two, potentially overlapping, lists of reference pictures. The prediction of a motion vector that selects a reference picture using a given reference picture list is not dependent upon any motion vectors that select their reference pictures using the other reference picture list. The values of spatially neighbouring motion vectors that use the same list of reference pictures as the motion vector being predicted are used for prediction, regardless of the relative temporal direction of the current and neighbouring motion vectors.02-05-2009
