20090286104MULTI-LAYERED NICKEL-PHOSPHOROUS COATINGS AND PROCESSES FOR FORMING THE SAME - Multiple layers of nickel phosphorous coatings are formed by electroless plating onto a base metal substrate such as a turbine component. In one embodiment, a first nickel layer metallurgical bonded by a heat treatment process to a surface of the base metal substrate, the first nickel layer containing about 4 to about 6 weight percent phosphorous with the balance being essentially nickel; and a second nickel layer deposited onto the first layer, the second nickel layer containing about 8 to about 12 weight percent phosphorous with the balance being essentially nickel, wherein the first and second layers are formed by electroless plating. In this manner, adhesion is maximized without degrading the properties of the second layer such as corrosion resistance and ductility. Also disclosed are processes for forming the multilayered nickel phosphorus coatings.11-19-2009
20090302005PROCESSES FOR TEXTURING A SURFACE PRIOR TO ELECTROLESS PLATING - Process for roughening a surface of a base metal substrate includes contacting the surface with an aqueous solution comprising oxalic acid, sulfuric acid, and hydrogen peroxide at a temperature and for a period of time effective to roughen the surface to an average roughness greater than 60 Ra, removing a modest amount of base material, and generating no narrow and deep crevices at all. The surface is roughened prior to application of an electroless coating onto the substrate.12-10-2009
20100070203METHOD FOR DETERMINING REHEAT CRACKING SUSCEPTIBILITY - System, computer software and method for determining a susceptibility to reheat cracking of a sample of material, which includes a welded area. The method includes measuring a length of the sample, applying a first stress to the sample to achieve a predetermined elongation of the sample, exposing the elongated sample to a predefined heat treatment, applying a second stress to the sample until the sample breaks at least into two different pieces, and determining the susceptibility of the broken sample to reheat cracking.03-18-2010
20100239873METHOD FOR PRODUCING A PROTECTIVE COATING FOR A COMPONENT OF A TURBOMACHINE, THE COMPONENT ITSELF AND THE RESPECTIVE MACHINE - A method for obtaining a protective coating on a surface to be treated of a light alloy mechanical component of a turbomachine. The method comprises associating a first coating layer resistant to corrosion on the surface to be treated of the mechanical component, and associating a second coating layer resistant to erosion, abrasion and high temperatures on the first coating layer.09-23-2010
20110014059PRODUCTION METHOD OF A COATING LAYER FOR A PIECE OF TURBOMACHINERY COMPONENT, THE COMPONENT ITSELF AND THE CORRESPONDING PIECE OF MACHINERY - A method to produce a turbomachinery impeller, which includes, at least, the following steps: creation of the impeller using a light alloy, and coating of the impeller with a nickel-plating coating.01-20-2011
20110027576SEALING OF PINHOLES IN ELECTROLESS METAL COATINGS - The present invention provides a method for sealing pinholes in an electroless metal coating, said method comprising: (a) coating a substrate with an electroless metal coating layer to provide a coated article comprising an electroless metal coating in contact with the surface of the substrate, said electroless metal coating being characterized by the presence of pinhole imperfections which allow fluid communication between the substrate and the environment; (b) applying a layer of a curable epoxy sealant over the electroless metal coating layer and filling the pinhole imperfections; (c) curing the curable epoxy sealant to provide a cured epoxy overcoating layer; and (d) removing a substantial portion of the cured epoxy overcoating layer to provide an article comprising an electroless metal coating which is substantially free of pinhole imperfections allowing fluid communication between the substrate and the environment.02-03-2011

20080219834Rotor Shaft Assembly for Magnetic Bearings for Use in Corrosive Environments - Rotor and stator assemblies that utilize magnetic bearings for supporting the rotor shaft during operation can be suitably used in corrosive environments, such as sour gas. The rotor and stator assemblies include NACE compliant magnetic bearing arrangements for sour gas applications. In one embodiment, a rotor shaft assembly for a magnetic bearing arrangement comprises a rotor shaft formed of a ferromagnetic material comprising a plurality of rotor laminations disposed on the rotor shaft; and a barrier layer formed on selected exposed surfaces of the rotor shaft, wherein the barrier layer is effective to resist corrosion relative to the surface without the barrier layer.09-11-2008
