20090253224Nanocrystal structures - A structure including a grating and a semiconductor nanocrystal layer on the grating, can be a laser. The semiconductor nanocrystal layer can include a plurality of semiconductor nanocrystals including a Group II-VI compound, the nanocrystals being distributed in a metal oxide matrix. The grating can have a periodicity from 200 nm to 500 nm.10-08-2009

20090024814PROVIDING AN ADMINISTRATIVE PATH FOR ACCESSING A WRITEABLE MASTER STORAGE VOLUME IN A MIRRORED STORAGE ENVIRONMENT - A technique provides an administrative path for accessing a writeable master storage volume in a mirrored storage environment. Illustratively, a writeable master storage volume stores a master set of data addressable by a corresponding pathname, and zero or more read-only (e.g., load-balancing) mirrored storage volumes are configured to store a mirrored set of the master set of data, the mirrored set also addressable by the corresponding pathname. Clients may read data from either the master storage volume or one of the mirrored storage volumes (e.g., according to a configured access location, such as a local mirrored volume if one exists) by issuing read requests having the corresponding pathnames. Also, each client may specifically access the master set of data from the master storage volume by issuing an access (e.g., read/write) request having a specified master storage volume pathname prefix prepended to the corresponding pathname.01-22-2009

20110271010I/O BANDWIDTH REDUCTION USING STORAGE-LEVEL COMMON PAGE INFORMATION - I/O bandwidth reduction using storage-level common page information is implemented by a storage server, in response to receiving a request from a client for a page stored at a first virtual address, determining that the first virtual address maps to a page that is a duplicate of a page stored at a second virtual address or that the first and second virtual addresses map to a deduplicated page within a storage system, and transmitting metadata to the client mapping the first virtual address to a second virtual address that also maps to the deduplicated page. For one embodiment, the metadata is transmitted in anticipation of a request for the redundant/deduplicated page via the second virtual address. For an alternate embodiment, the metadata is sent in response to a determination that a page that maps to the second virtual address was previously sent to the client.11-03-2011

20090041830Traumatic brain injury biomarker diagnostic - Blast Induced Traumatic Brain Injury or bTBI needs objective and subjective testing that can be made quickly in the field. Subjective tests using shapes, textures, tastes and odors as disposable, edible candies on a stick may be carried in a field kit. An objective test that employs a similar candy on a stick bearing antibodies bound to bioluminescent marker reads whether molecules believed to be released into the mouth from an injured brain are present if they bind to the specific antibody which may then be read.02-12-2009
