20090089221Method of providing catastrophic loss protection through a mortgage - A catastrophic hazard protection (CHP) mortgage may be provided on real property or structure(s) on the real property of a owner. The CHP mortgage may be structured to include financial protection in the event that one or more structures of the real property is damaged by a catastrophe such as a hurricane or earthquake. The owner may pay an increased interest rate on the CHP mortgage. If catastrophe damage occurs, the principal amount of the CHP mortgage may be reduced by the lesser of the value of the damage or the principal balance. Alternatively, the owner may receive a payment equivalent to the lesser of the value of the damage or the principal balance. A CHP mortgage may be implemented electronically. Additionally, catastrophic hazard protection may be added onto an existing mortgage.04-02-2009

20100069479NEURODEGENERATIVE DISEASE TREATMENT USING JAK/STAT INHIBITION - The invention relates to treatment of neurodegenerative diseases with JAK/STAT pathway inhibitors to eliminate extracellular cell signaling events leading to cell cycle abrogation and/or apoptosis. Primary neurons were administered neurotoxic proteins, such as gp120, Tat, or gp120 and Tat, with or without IFN-γ added, resulting in neuronal death, and simulated neurodegenerative diseases. The neurodegenerative disease is treated using a JAK/STAT pathway inhibitor, including (—)-epigallocatechin-3-gallate (EGCG), to modulate JAK1 or STAT1 phosphorylation, resulting in resistance to gp120 or Tat neurotoxicity. The invention may be used to treat neurons afflicted with HIV-associated Dementia, multiple sclerosis, Alzheimer's Disease, Parkinson's Disease, amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, or Pick's Disease, and may act in conjunction with antiviral treatment, like HAART.03-18-2010
20100267733Synergistic Modulation of Microglial Activation by Nicotine and THC - Treatment of microglial cells with nicotine and THC synergistically attenuate the microglial activation. Using microglial activation, the combination of THC and nicotine interact synergistically reduced LPS induced TNF-α release, showing that the combination of THC and nicotine clinically have greater efficacy in reducing neuroinflammation with less side effects than either drug given alone. CD40 signaling was found critically involved in pathological activation of microglial cells. This invention is also relevant to peripheral inflammation as well thru macrophages. In addition, other cannabinoids and other nicotinic-like medications currently in development are also covered under this discovery.10-21-2010

20090071666Method for gradually relieving pressure in a hydraulic system utilizing reverse fluid flow through a pump of the system - A method of gradually relieving pressure in a hydraulic system of a work machine, wherein a pump in fluid communication with the hydraulic system and a fluid reservoir, is operable for pressurizing fluid from the reservoir and pumping the pressurized fluid into the hydraulic system, wherein the pump is restrictive to fluid flow therethrough when not operating, and the hydraulic system includes at least one valve in fluid communication with the work element configured for receiving the pressurized fluid. The valve is controllably operable in at least two operating modes, including a first mode wherein the pressurized fluid can pass therethrough between the pump and the work element or elements, and a second mode wherein the fluid is prevented from passing between the pump and the work element. The method includes operating the valve or valves in the first mode for at least a predetermined time period while the pump is not operating, to allow at least some of any of, the pressurized fluid in the work element to flow through the hydraulic system and gradually drain through the pump to the reservoir so as to reduce any pressure in the hydraulic system and the work element.03-19-2009
