20080285539 | MOBILE STATION ASSISTED TIMING SYNCHRONIZATION IN A CDMA COMMUNICATION SYSTEM - In the present invention, the slave base station attains synchronization with the reference base station through messages transmitted from and received by a mobile station either in the soft handoff region between the reference base station and the slave base station or within a range which allows the mobile station to communicate with the slave base station. When the mobile station is not in communication with both the reference base station and the slave base station, then the round trip delay between the mobile station and the reference base station is measured by the reference base station. The reference base station communicates the PN code used by the mobile station over the reverse link to the slave base station. The slave base station acquires the signal from the mobile station and determines when the signal from the mobile station arrives. The slave base station then makes an estimate as to the length of the delay between transmission of a signal from the mobile station to the slave base station. Based upon these measurements and estimates, the slave base station determines the error which is present in the slave base station system time. | 11-20-2008 |
20090052573 | METHOD AND APPARATUS FOR FORWARD LINK POWER CONTROL - A forward link power control mechanism measures the reverse link power control bits which are transmitted on the forward traffic channel. At the remote station, the reverse link power control bits from multiples base stations or multiple signal paths are measured, combined, and filtered to yield an improved measurement of the forward link signal quality. The reverse link power control bits which are deemed unreliable are omitted from use in the power control loop. The remote station generates a set of forward link power control bit in accordance with the measurements and transmits these bits to all base stations in communication with the remote station. Each base station adjusts its gain of the forward traffic channel in accordance to its measurement of the forward link power control bit. | 02-26-2009 |
20090083602 | OPERATION OF A FORWARD LINK ACKNOWLEDGEMENT CHANNEL FOR THE REVERSE LINK DATA - An acknowledgement method in a wireless communication system. Initially, a reverse supplemental channel (R-SCH) frame is received at a base station. The base station then transmits an acknowledgement (ACK) signal if quality of the received R-SCH frame is indicated as being good. A negative acknowledgement (NAK) signal is transmitted only if the received data frame is indicated as being bad but has enough energy such that, if combined with energy from retransmission of the data frame, it would be sufficient to permit correct decoding of the data frame. If the best base station is known, the acknowledgement method may reverse the transmission of the acknowledgement signals for the best base station so that only NAK signal is sent. A positive acknowledgement is assumed in the absence of an acknowledgement. This is done to minimize the transmit power requirements. | 03-26-2009 |
20090156197 | SYNCHRONIZATION OF STORED SERVICE PARAMETERS IN A COMMUNICATION SYSTEM - Techniques for synchronization of stored service parameters are disclosed. In one aspect, a configuration identifier is transmitted from a mobile station to a base station, and compared with an identifier generated in the base station. If the identifiers match, the configuration is used for communication. In another aspect, the identifier is generated by selecting an identifier associated with a configuration from a configuration table. In yet another aspect, the identifier is generated by computing a cyclic redundancy check (CRC) of the configuration. Various other aspects are also presented. These aspects have the benefit of preventing attempted use of unsynchronized stored service parameters and associated call setup failures and subsequent renegotiation, with the net effect of reducing call setup time and more efficient use of system resources. | 06-18-2009 |
20090161634 | METHOD AND APPARATUS FOR ENABLING SUBSCRIBER STATIONS TO PROCESS A SYNCHRONIZATION CHANNEL IN A SPREAD SPECTRUM COMMUNICATIONS SYSTEM - During initiation procedure between subscriber stations and access network adhering to CDMA standards, (e.g., IS-95 and IS-2000) the subscriber station receives a Sync Channel Message. Due to a design/manufacturing error, certain subscriber stations adhering to the IS-95 fail to ignore a portion of the Sync Channel Message, intended for a proper operation of subscriber stations adhering to the IS-2000. This causes a failure of the IS-95 subscriber stations' operation. The disclosed invention describes embodiments allowing the faulty subscriber stations to operate on an access networks build in accordance with both IS-95 and IS-2000 standards. | 06-25-2009 |
20100202283 | METHOD AND APPARATUS FOR WALSH SPACE ASSIGNMENT IN A COMMUNICATION SYSTEM - Techniques for Walsh space assignment are disclosed. In one aspect, a list of Walsh functions is maintained in the base station and mobile stations. A Walsh space indicator is transmitted to indicate which of the Walsh functions on the list are to be used in communication. The Walsh space indicator is updated according to the dynamically varying transmit power available or the use of Walsh functions within the base station. Methods by which a mobile station can request Walsh space information are provided. In another aspect, a Walsh space indicator channel is continually broadcast for mobile stations to detect the Walsh space indicator therefrom. In yet another aspect, the Walsh space indicator is used to initialize convolutional encoders and decoders, to provide a mechanism for mitigating against errors introduced while receiving Walsh space indicators. Various other aspects are also presented. | 08-12-2010 |
20110045864 | POWER CONTROL FOR POINT-TO-MULTIPOINT SERVICES PROVIDED IN COMMUNICATION SYSTEMS - To enable point-to-multipoint communication services in an existing cellular communication system infrastructure, each member subscriber station, i.e., a subscriber station participating in such a service, is receiving a forward link shared channel, and in certain embodiments additionally a forward link dedicated channel. Because transmission on the forward link channels from neighboring sectors presents interference to the transmission from the sector serving the subscriber station, it is desirable to control the forward link channel transmission power to the minimum acceptable power. Additionally, a transmission form each member subscriber station on a reverse link channel presents interference to other subscriber stations. Therefore, it is desirable to control the reverse link channel transmission to the minimum signal level. Consequently, a method and apparatus for a power control that enables point-to-multipoint services in an existing infrastructure of a wireless cellular telephone system is disclosed. | 02-24-2011 |
20110103492 | Method for Providing Service and Rate Negotiation in a Mobile Communication System - A method and apparatus for negotiating service configuration in a digital communication system is disclosed. In an exemplary embodiment the service negotiation system is implemented in a wireless spread spectrum communication system. The service configuration comprises data rates, frame formats and types of services. Types of service may include speech encoding, facsimile or digital data services. Further described herein is a digital transmitter and receiver using the service negotiation system to provide service configuration mutually acceptable at both ends of a communication link. | 05-05-2011 |
20120026981 | MOBILE STATION MESSAGE HAVING A STATION CLASS MARK FIELD FOR INDICATING AN MEID CAPABLE MOBILE STATION - A mobile station for wireless communication includes a control processor configured to generate a message for transmission on a reverse signaling channel, the message including a Station Class Mark field having a plurality of bits, a portion of the Station Class Mark field indicating that the mobile station is uniquely identified by a Mobile Station Equipment Identifier. | 02-02-2012 |
20120131406 | METHOD AND APPARATUS FOR TIME EFFICIENT RETRANSMISSION USING SYMBOL ACCUMULATION - A method for communicating data is provided. In the method, an encoder receives an input bit stream. The encoder generates, based on the input bit stream, a first output bit stream based on at least a first polynomial and a second output bit stream based on at least a second polynomial. The first and second polynomials are each different from each other. The encoder forms a first packet of code symbols, having a first code rate, based on bits from the first output bit stream. A transmitter transmits the first packet. A receiver receives a first negative acknowledgment indicating unsuccessful decoding of the first packet after said transmitting of the first packet. The encoder punctures bits from the second output bit stream and forms a second packet of code symbols having a second code rate. The second code rate is different from the first code rate. The transmitter transmits the second packet in response to the receiver receiving the first negative acknowledgment. | 05-24-2012 |
