20090240086Preparation of glycerol tert-butyl ethers - A process for making glycerol di-tert-butyl ethers is disclosed. In one aspect of the invention, glycerol and isobutylene react in the presence of a β-zeolite having a silicon to aluminum ratio greater than 150. In another aspect, the etherification is performed in the presence of a β-zeolite and added tert-butyl alcohol. Each process selectively provides glycerol di-tert-butyl ethers while reducing the generation of isobutylene dimers and trimers. Utilizing both aspects of the inventive process simultaneously affords a diether product mixture containing less than 5 wt. % of isobutylene oligomers.09-24-2009

20090217638ONE PIECE TALL FEED DRUM - An improved crop conveying drum for a drive disc cutter mounted directly to the drive shaft mechanism providing rotational power to the cutterbar. The crop conveying drum includes a pair of mating segments, each forming a half of the drum. Each segment is formed from a single piece of plate material and stamped into the desired curvilinear configuration. A central mounting portion of each segment is contoured to match the drive shaft mechanism and allow connection thereto. Holes in the central mounting portion allow insertion fasteners to connect the drum segments directly to the drive shaft mechanism so that the crop conveying drum rotates in unison with the drive shaft. By forming the drum segments from a single plate of material, material characteristics can be more easily selected or more quickly modified compared to the fabricated weldments known in the art.09-03-2009
20090249757CUTTERBAR PTO COVER AND FILLER - A cutterbar drive mechanism cover for use in a specialty crop harvesting header to optimally direct severed crop material from the cutterbar to a crop conveying apparatus which then laterally converges the crop material from outboard ends of the cutting header toward an interior discharge zone for formation of a windrow or for further processing. Crop flow smoothing by the drive cover also reduces disturbances to the crop material during movement within the header which reduces seed loss in seed-bearing specialty crops.10-08-2009
20090249763CURTAIN TO DIRECT CROP IN A HEADER - A curtain for directing severed crop movement in a cutting header in an agricultural harvester. The curtain optimizes crop movement between a cutterbar to a crop conveying auger for lateral movement of the crop material from outboard ends of the cutting header toward an interior discharge zone for formation of a windrow. The curtain also reduces the tendency for clogging that occurs when crop approaches conveying augers on both sides of an axial centerline by directing all crop material toward the trailing side of the rotating auger and by preventing airflow generated by the auger from disrupting crop approaching the auger. Crop smoothing by the curtain also reduces disturbances to the crop material during movement within the header which reduces seed loss in seed-bearing specialty crops.10-08-2009
20090250317AUGER WITH TAPERED FLIGHTING - A crop conveying apparatus for laterally urging crop from outboard ends of a cutting header on an agricultural harvester toward an interior discharge zone for formation of a windrow or for feed to a subsequent crop processing apparatus. Helical flighting extending radially from a transversely disposed, rotatable central core defines a first profile for the auger apparatus adjacent each outboard end of the header and extending inwardly to a position near, but not co-extensive with the width of a crop discharge zone in the header. Auger flighting in the central portion of the header co-extensive with the width of the discharge zone opening features a variable profile that tapers from the first profile to a minimum profile centrally located between the side edges of the discharge zone opening to provide optimal movement of severed crop material into the discharge opening, resist entanglement and clogging of the crop material, and minimize the loss of seed from the crop stem.10-08-2009
20090272090FLEXIBLE TALL CROP PUSHER - A flexible tall crop knockdown barrier for use with rotary cutting headers in harvesting specialty crops such as grass seed. The knockdown barrier comprises a support frame mounted to the front of the header that extends forwardly and upwardly ahead of the header. A flexible barrier supported by the frame extends downwardly during idle conditions and downwardly and rearwardly as the header is propelled through the crop. The flexible curtain may be rolled around a lower spool and stowed on the support frame when not in use to improve visibility. The knockdown barrier serves to gently lean the crop forward before cutting so as to minimize seed shatter due whipping of the seed head.11-05-2009
20110302897SWATHGATE WITH ADJUSTABLE CROP GUIDES AND METHOD OF CROP DISTRIBUTION - A crop guide apparatus having a plurality of angularly positionable guide fins projecting generally perpendicularly from a mower-conditioner swathgate into the crop discharge stream as it exits the conditioner apparatus whereby the angular position of the fins influences the lateral direction of a portion of the crop discharge stream and allows the resultant crop stream to laterally convergently or laterally divergently directed. The adjustable guide fins are connected to and extend from the working surface of the swathgate generally perpendicular to the plane of the swathgate. Angular position of the each guide fin may be fixed using a pinned or bolted connections to one of a plurality of holes in the swathgate, or an actuator mechanism may be incorporated to pivot the guide fins on the pivot axes, preferably in a coordinated manner. The crop guide apparatus enables crop cutting, conditioning, and tedding to be performed in a single pass by a single machine.12-15-2011

20110288722VEHICLE CALIBRATION USING DATA COLLECTED DURING NORMAL OPERATING CONDITIONS - Systems and methods for optimizing the performance of a vehicle under normal operating conditions. A vehicle system adjusts one or more vehicle operating parameters in a closed-loop in response to data received from sensors. A portable vehicle communication interface module is selectively attached to the vehicle without inhibiting normal operation of the vehicle. 20090243934Wireless time reference system and method - Instead of normalizing time reference of independent spatially-located clocks using a reference tag transmission from known location, the present invention uses an interarrival time interval between a pulse pair of UWB pulses as a timing metric. Thus, a method of synchronizing spatially-located clocks or normalizing time indications thereof comprises transmitting a UWB pulse pair, determining at first and second monitoring stations a respective count value indicative of a locally measured time interval between received pulse pairs, determining a ratio between clock counts of first and second monitoring stations, and utilizing the ratio to determine clock skew, e.g., a timing correction to be applied to respective local clocks of the monitoring stations. A corresponding system comprises a reference tag transmitter that transmits a pulse pair of UWB pulses to define a time reference interval, a first independent receiver that receives, the pulse pair to generate a first count value indicative an interarrival interval between the pulse pair, a second independent receiver that receives the pulse pair to similarly generate a second count value, and a processor hub responsive to the count values to determine a ratio corresponding to the ratio of respective clock frequencies of the first and second receiver clocks. Once the correction is applied, time-of-arrival information from object tag transmissions may be used to determine object location with sub-foot position accuracies.10-01-2009

20110070114OIL RETURN VALVE FOR A SCROLL COMPRESSOR - A valve for selectively allowing the return of oil from a discharge plenum to a suction plenum includes a passage which is selectively opened or blocked by a valve spool. The valve spool sees a pressure from a discharge pressure location upstream of a discharge check valve on one face, and a discharge pressure from a discharge plenum on an opposed face. While the compressor is running, the two pressures should be relatively equal. The face which sees the pressure from the chamber upstream of the check valve is larger than the face which sees the pressure from the discharge plenum. Thus, when the compressor is running, the valve spool is biased to a first position at which it allows oil return from the discharge plenum to the suction plenum. However, upon shutdown of the compressor, the pressure in the chamber upstream of the discharge valve drops. The valve spool will be driven to a second position at which it blocks communication for oil return.03-24-2011
